Someone recommended The Fourth Wing to me recently. They're no longer my friend. What an absolutely horrible book series, my god. Is that what modern fantasy is turning into?

That could be it. It is pretty hardcore sci-fi, not an easy level of reading. But idk. I thought the void trilogy from him was much more intense, also great

I read the books leading up to it (i think?), Judas Unchained and Pandora's Star, but not the Void trilogy itself. Worth it?

I think so yes. Faster than those previous two, and lots of characters transfer. Probably his "weirdest" series.
