Back in the day I went on a cruise to Mexico w my kids, & I remember being shocked to see armed military personnel carrying assault weapons on the pier when we disembarked for shore excursions. I felt lucky to live in a country where that kind of military presence wasn’t necessary. 😒

I felt exactly the same when I visited my mom in the mid-90s. Guys with guns standing in the back of a truck- like vehicle.

I lived in Turkey in the ‘70s and there were armed military everywhere. We felt the same…lucky to live in a country where that didn’t happen.

I traveled there, and we were warned never to go anywhere near any military building, and never never to take a picture.

We loved living there. My husband was stationed with NATO Land southeast in Izmir. He enlisted in the Army as he had a low draft number and didn’t want to be sent to Vietnam.

I remember having one or two drinks b4 I disembarked from a cruise ship in I think Puerto Vallarta. I was shocked to see armed military at exits. I walked up to one of the heavily armed military members & told him how thankful that’s not what we experience in the US. Damn. That was just 7 yrs ago.

Technically or in action? It's in how they get paid. ICE agents are usually going after a specific person. Bounty hunters grab anyone that looks brown, etc, takes them to an ICE office, and receives the going bounty rate. The person gets detained until ICE sorts out if they're a citizen or not.
