The most relevant ethical system in catholicism is not even biblical but greek. And ot only got into the church because Aquinas read some muslim thinkers who saved Aristotle from obscurity.

More people have died in the name of the Abrahamic religions than for any other reason in modern human history.
Wasn't aware the first and second world wars were in the name of faith
Not to mention the Inquisition, Spanish Conquest of the Americas, Witch trials, and then you have the current genocide of Palestinians by Israel a Jewish state, all colonization, all the Muslim wars....
The spaniah conquest had very little to do with religion. It served as an excuse, but Fray Bartolomé de las Casas was a loud voice against the spanish atrocitiea. Most colonization is due to resources, little to do with religion.
I took an entire history course on the Spanish Conquest. My professor was inducted into the Spanish Royal Order for his work in the subject. Convert or die was a huge part of the Spanish Conquest. www.stpetersburg.usf.edu/news/2021/us...
Cool. I'm latinoamerican, and I learned the history from highschool and a couple more umiversity courses and let me tell you, it wasn't really that important. The conversion to catholicism took centuries.
It didn't help that the spanish destroyed many places of worship, but many monastoc orders, like the jesuits, took a less violent approach to conversion.
You need to separate how politics use religions as tools for powdr vs a true religious fervour war.
Our Founders made the Separation of Church and State a foundational principle of our Constitution and government for good reason. There's a reason why no one's religious beliefs are allowed to inform our laws or government.
You should tell the Republicans that.
When religion is in any way involved it ceases to be strictly political.
The Catholic Church caused millions of deaths during the black plague. They ordered Europeans to kill cats because they were 'demonic' and associated with witches. They complied and it caused the rat population to explode creating even more disease and spreading it further.
The majority of the deaths in WWII were a direct result the Holocaust and that was 'Christians' committing genocide against Jews.
So WW2 was some sort of Holy War? Hitler invaded Europe to kill jews? Betrayed Stalin to kill some more Jews? Bombarded England to get the britiah jews?
Hitler wanted to rid the entire world of the Jewish people.
Was this influenced by his christian faith or by good all fashioned antisemtism? As far as I know he didn't try to convert any jews, unlike the Spanish expulsion of the jews.
