The main issue with this was that it was often because *developers* chose to write tons of crappy games for that dumb pc that pops already had at home to play freecell on, and then graduated to writing *better* games for pc, and porting used to be a hassle. 1/
Today, most games are written with mobile (iOS) in mind, and porting is a lot easier since MacOS switched to Intel chips. But the rep is still hard to shake, and whenever budget & time restraints come into play (and when DON’T they?) the Mac version/port is the first one to go. 2/2
I mean at this point developers don't even bother to make ports to either of the other PC platforms. i think apple could've made macs a decent platform for games many times, but they have a fundamental lack of respect for the medium at an institutional level that prevents this.
everyone just content to write a compatibility layer and be done with it, which is probably the correct decision to make.
