How can this be reconciled with the Equality Act (2010), specially section 28 relating to services and public functions but the wider act in general? Spoiler: it can’t, unless the law is changed. If it isn’t, surely such guidance is tantamount to breaking the law?
Arguably the Supreme Court has said it's legal. It's clearly illegal under Convention law but getting it through Strasbourg, and getting the government (of the day, it could well be Reform by then) to remedy it could take several years.
I don't think they did, at least not as I (and others) understand it. The Supreme Court made an interpretation of a definition (flawed as that was, especially as they didn't provide a definition themselves) within the law.
The ERA (2010) makes specific mention of trans individuals being able to use the spaces according to their gender. The wording is quite clear on that. The SC's decision was meant to clarify (it didn't) rather than make law (only Parliament can do that).
Unless it's amended, the ERA (2010) protections still apply. I would expect that if the new guidance is implemented there will be a raft of lawsuits challenging it as violating those sections of the ERA. The only way around that that I can see is to amend the ERA itself to exclude Trans people.
And if they did that...we would be living in an Apartheid state were the law deliberately discriminated against a specific group/characteristic.
You're sort of right, sort of wrong. Law is always interpreted and the SC arguably ripped up that part of the EA by its ruling and examples of application. And statutory guidance has quite strong force under the EA. Yes, there are going to be lots of court cases but...
...that doesn't help the situation on the ground where we'll be risking arrest until things are clear again. They won't be clear until we get to Strasbourg and the incompatible law (as it's been interpreted) is fixed. Years ahead.
My reading (ianal) is that the FWS judgement made it legal to exclude from spaces routinely, but didn't make it illegal to directly discriminate (you're trans you're fired etc) nor to misgender in other contexts.
Oh and yes, we're about to be living in that state and it's not going to be fixed for years. Because it's what the government and the media want to happen.

Usual reminder that any ban imposes no obligation on trans people, only on service providers. If challenged, ask if they have records and policies showing they ask everyone. If they only challenge people they think are trans rather than requiring everyone, it's still discrimination for being trans.
The upshot is still a ban, but the only time you might be breaking the law would be if thrown out and coming back in. And even if they do throw you out, it's an illegal throwing out unless they offer you alternate provision.
As an unrelated note - birth certificates aren't ID, and you can just order a copy of anyone's for a few quid. Not gonna be my fault if the only birth certificate I carry around is my cousin's 🤷🏼♀️

Tbf they’re designing it to be distributed (like mastodon), with the end goal being “anyone” being able to run their own servers that talk to all the others. That makes private accounts very difficult to do, without having to rely on every server playing nice and not just ignoring the lock.
So the end goal is Bluesky (like Mastodon) is basically Usenet with a pretty face. The concentration of service provision into the hands of one big foreign (US) corporation was a stupid idea from the get go. Expensive to maintain, monopolistic, a cash grab, and not a safe harbour for data.
It is in line with the regressive outlook on life elsewhere, so it probably shouldn't be much of a surprise.
