Meant to send a message, and the message (a false one), that at least some high level CIA officers have been co-opted by Russia. It raises questions in the minds of a lot of people (mostly conspiracy theorists) And then more personally, it’s meant to rub salt in the wound of grieving parents.

I could care less about the grieving parent(the kid got what anyone fighting for Russia deserves), and I'm more worried about how someone can maintain a security clearance, let alone a high level position at an intelligence agency with this kind of life/family situation.

Having a child who is mentally ill isn’t a security threat. And it wasn’t known he was fighting for Russia until after the fact.

It wasn’t a threat, it was a tragedy, but the provision of the award was a pure intelligence play.

Oh definitely. And Witkoff is a willing participant.

From what’s been reported, their son was mentally ill. It’s just salt in a wound.

Oh absolutely. But you can find a lot of people wondering about how his family didn’t know, or how having a kid fighting for Russia is compromising. Doesn’t inspire confidence in the agency. But make no mistake, this is a personal tragedy not a national security crisis.

Having their sick son die in the Donbas meat grinder is just a cosmic cruelty.
