is it just me or has microsoft just like straight up broken highlighting/selecting text like in office and in file explorer if you start typing or move with arrow keys and select with shift it will automatically start to try to autoselect the entire thing or bring up new menus or kick you out

Yeah, their context menus and select are a mess. If it doesn't involve Copilot they've probably broken it irreparably and no one noticed in their QC department (because they were fired to make room for burning money on AI because they put an engineer in charge and lol he's delusional about AI)

I think they couldn't make the browser-based versions of their products good, so they're making the application versions worse to force people to switch.
I think they gave the wrong engineers too much power over product decisions! It is very clearly not the UI folks.
Oh I've definitely had several instances recently where I tried to search my inbox by clicking in the search bar at the top and starting to type, but it instead just starts doing shit as if I'm hitting shortcuts, including deleting emails if I hit backspace or the delete key. It's terrible.
I've been very annoyed by this in teams, someone makes a comment and includes a URL, email, or phone number and I need to copy it to use it or send it somewhere else and it will only let me grab the whole message. So terrible.
Also is there a place in Microsoft's system where I can tell it that I never want to paste and match style? I only want the characters pleas, always, and only.
Yeah it feels that way a lot to me, it tries to hard to assume what I want to select and then I have to retry to select multiple times, it's infuriating
