I don't know about Conway but I'm pretty sure Stuart Stevens doesn't consider himself a Republican anymore. I think it's more accurate to say they both WERE cutthroat Republicans but are now cutthroat pro-democracy advocates.
Stevens has publicly stated that was wrong in his beliefs and his role in building the fascist machine, and I think is honestly trying to make amends. I can't say the same for most of the other Never-Trumpers.
