Please let them join you!!!!
Bro, shut up. I love this so much!
Gilded Age Scavenger Hunt. Gogogo
Sorry can’t make it, but there is spirit.
Sounds like a lotta fun in NYC! Good luck with the treasure hunt challenge! 👍🏻 The mayoral candidate is engaging with his audience and potential voters in a fun way with public transit and history 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻
I don't live in NYC, but I love your energy, honesty and personality. 🤗💙 Keep up the good work 👏👏👏
Oh I know this one! At one point synonymous with the Democratic Party, it was a literal boys club that supported immigrants, but also subverted democracy and ruled New York through a corrupt system of patronage. See you at Hakeem Jeffries’ house!
Mamdami is the up and coming new progressive Democrat. We can blame pecularities in national American politics for the duopoly, but a whole party can be transformed from within when an existential necessity presents itself.
Oh yeah? If he’s really a Democrat why isn’t he campaigning against wokeness on FOX News like both Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams are? How come he hasn’t taken millions from ultra conservative superPACs like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries do? I doubt Mamdani’s even in Trump’s Signal chats.
Phfft.
As I keep telling folks, old guard Democrat is the legacy horse trading party even while the GOP is now trading in rabid zebras. New skills, new focuses are necessary, and it isn't necessarily to check off everything on every woke list in public either.
Mamdani seems to be avoiding both the Scylla and the Charybdis so far.
I feel you, but I disagree - I think navigating between ‘too woke’ and ‘not woke enough’ exactly describes the strategy of Schumer/Jeffries, but Mamdani’s avoiding that whole discourse and just having authentic conversations with constituents, which is perhaps the oldest winning game in politics.
I guess there's something that Schumer and Jeffries could hypothetically do, like promise that if voters help them in 2016 and 2018 with a commanding Democratic majority they will press popular progressive measures. Everybody knows there's a GOP cabal right now doing its darndest.
One such measure being expanding the Court.
Also, there's no need to let the GOP "steal Christianity" either.
Though not ONLY from within. It takes new knocks on its door.
😂😂😂
Once you get elected and make NYC affordable for Artists again -- I am moving back!! 😉
Is this getting live streamed somewhere?
Goddamn. If it wasn’t a 14 hour flight… The United States is huge. We are with you.
Your second...:) bsky.app/profile/broo...
Dude, and I know this is a staffer, your campaign is pretty dope. Keep up the awesome work.
Loved how you picked up the #sourcreamandonion #potatochips 💪👏🤑
A lot of subways go there.
The answer: During NYC Mayor Hugh J. Grant’s term, Tammany Hall was located at 141 East 14th Street. It was torn down and the Con Edison building now stands on the site. The Con Edison building’s address is: 4 Irving Place (between 14th St and 15th St and just east of Union Square).
Hugh J. Grant was the 88th mayor of NYC, in office from January 1, 1889 – December 31, 1892. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_J....
At its peak, Tammany Hall also played a major role in state and national politics, particularly during the Gilded Age. Tammany Hall’s headquarters was at 141 East 14th St between 1868–1927. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammany...
Your visual clue for the first stop on the #Zohran #Mamdani scavenger hunt:
This is the right answer, but I’m wondering if they expect people to go to the current tammany hall which admittedly is only a few blocks away
I’ll just say right now, the Con Ed spot is currently wrapped in scaffolding and chain-link fences at the base. Not sure if it’s exactly an ideal spot to start the hunt or notttt
My pedantry is more than happy to acquiesce to mild historical inaccuracy in just this one case
Trust me, I getcha.
Oh my god I lived in NYC nearly 20 years and went to that Petco so many times (they always have kitties to adopt there!) and had no idea that was Tammany Hall 😆
There is now lines being formed across the street in Union Square
bsky.app/profile/empi...
OK, turns out #Zohran could have been A LOT more precise in his first 15-second video clue. Mayor Hugh J. Grant spent time at Tammany Hall, but NOT this later Tammany Hall building that is now a Petco store. Very good crowd though across the street in the farmers market section of Union Square Park.
What's the second clue
Haven’t seen it posted. I’m also not in the city today, so only participating virtually.
Yup that's what I got, too.
The East Village was my neighborhood when I lived in NYC, so I really appreciate Mamdani starting his scavenger hunt there. (Also easy for the sort of Brooklynite who you know *loves* scavenger hunts to get there on the L train.) 10/10, would vote for him a Tammany Hall number of times.
I’m rolling with you, dude! Don’t let me down! 🏃🏽♀️
I’d imagine it’s either there, or at the current site at e.16th. Fact that Zohran said “in front of the gilded-age hall” rather than “at the site of the gilded-age hall” might be throwing me, but either way, I’m at the standing one
Mayor Hugh Grant couldn’t have spent time at the last Tammany Hall site at 44 Union Square East (now a Petco store) because it didn’t exist during his lifetime! thevillagesun.com/petco-to-rel...
This isn’t the last Tammany Hall site. The last one was at 233 Madison Avenue.
You misinterpreted Wikipedia. When Tammany lost its political influence, it couldn’t afford to maintain the 17th St building & it was sold in 1943. Tammany’s leaders moved to the National Democratic Club on Madison Ave/East 37th & the Society's collection of memorabilia went into a Bronx warehouse.
That may be true. But this one is at least standing.
Worst case: Mamdani supporters direct scavenger hunt participants from the Con Edison Building site to Union Square itself (lots of space for a crowd), just across the street from the Petco store (the last Tammany Hall building).
I was trying to think when Hugh Grant played a mayor. My brain did remember Tammany Hall = corruption from 8th-grade history.
Yes Chief!
If all of this ends with a Rockapella concert, I’ll call it a win.
I’d lose my mind
OMG. Big Big win.
With some NYC-style 🍕
Hell yes! You’re going to be out next Mayor. I can feel it.
This is genius.
Zohran, KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING!
are reporters from @thecity.nyc allowed to participate?
Yes, and they get bonus red envelopes 🧧😜
Doesn't look like there's any prohibition.... Do it!
What is find most interesting is that Cuomo, Adams, or Silwa couldn't do anything like this. All three campaigns are based on how dangerous and terrible NY is, so i cant imagine any of them suggesting NYers run around and enjoy their city.
Mamdani seems like the only candidate who actually likes the city he's running for Mayor of. Cuomo, Adams, and Silwa all treat it as some hellhole that theyre going to tame, and Mamdani treats it as a fun place that can still be improved.
Getting NYers out on pub trans on a beautiful summer’s day to play a game together is genius.
All three of them are ideologically Republican, regardless of ostensible party membership.
best campaign EVER!!!
someone has been watching @vfa-expert.bsky.social's second ever, best ever Film Buff Summer Movie Treasure Hunt
I love that I've never lived in NYC and still immediately know where this is.
Julia Roberts!!
You really had to pull the Think theme from Jeopardy!, didn't you?
Never occurred to me the theme had a name, thanks for teaching me today
So right into the belly of the corrupt beast on move one?
I mean his promo video referenced current corruption by Adams
The theme is likely corruption in NYC. The first clue is about a mayor that ran the city from prison. He can build a theme around Adams, Cuomo and Trump easily.
Sorry. The guy that ran the city from prison wasn’t actually the mayor. He was a state senator.
Michael Bloomberg, quick everyone head over to his apartment
Wondering if I could follow a team that is participating on social media?
Oh. I could post if that’s fun? Ok let’s see I’ll think of a hashtag…
😃 Yes!! I’d live to tag along
Ok! I’ll use #mamadaniexscaveganza!
That “name” makes Mr. Mamdani sound more Italian which will be good for some votes, I expect 🤣
It’s on 😃 bsky.app/profile/simp...
Yay 😃 Thanks!! Have fun out there
Tagging along from Oslo myself! 🇳🇴
...you see this @heatherchirdon.bsky.social? He's doing a fully public transportation accessible scavenger hunt incorporating history.
When we were all just playful, goofy kids and friends in the 90s, Heather's dearly beloved (now hubz, then friend, also mine) would organize these massive scavenger hunts. This is brilliant on Mamdani's and his team's parts.
Dearly Beloved *became* "Dearly Beloved" by sending *me* on a scavenger hunt with Mr. @gregoryaight.bsky.social on the other end of a primitive cell phone to answer questions & help with puzzles! Truly, the biggest of the scavenger hunts for yours truly.
My wife set up a SH hunt at the SF Zoo. Three teams & instamatic cameras. Each had to get photos of as many items on a list with points for @ team member & extra for me. They had 90 minutes & me for 30 each. We reviewed the photos over a dim sum tea. My gift was 3 animals adopted and memories.
SOCIALISM NOW!!!!
This is awesome and so fun. Go Zohran!
Got the answer right away. 🤫
Smart phones will be very busy today and many public transit riders will learn more about NYC/American history! Many interesting chats about history on subway trains, too! 😆
Man this looks so fun!! I'll definitely be following along from PA this afternoon!
Love it!
The scavenging has begun! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
The Zohran campaign is so hip. The other politicos are stuck in the 1950's.
Not the 50's- my parents were local democrats and it was fun- posters on cars, beeping through the neighborhoods, potlucks- it was the Clinton's that knocked the people and the fun out of politics
Ed Koch. I got this.
Love this ☝️
Integrity matters! Keep going @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social . We need new leaders. You are leaving O-L-D man @schumer.senate.gov in the dust.
The first clue is that it is something to eat
No. It’s a place. A famous one if you ever studied NYC history. That mayor ran the city from prison.
But the building was torn down, I thought?
Or it could be the original location on 14 street even if the building was demolished.
The union square building still exists?
Clearly you have never seen this gem. www.youtube.com/watch?v=shbg...
i am so invested in this scavenger hunt you have no idea
Right? If nothing else, its an antidote to doom scrolling for a few hours.
This is so fucking rad 🤩
Rad? Go back to 2010
Yeah, "Rad" was definitely cutting edge slang in 2010 😂
Max! how you be?!
😁😁
why do you hate other people's joy
Are you 19? Rad was used on playgrounds in the 80s
🤣🤣 that’s true 🤣
Ahyup. Heck, we used both “radical” and “rad” in the 1970s, too. Catchphrases are funny time markers. People generally think “cool” arose in the 1950s—it began in the 1920s!
Rad is comin’ back
18

No need to dogpile, now
Yes please. They need to be warned what's coming so they can avoid it.
If you warned people even in 2019 what was coming you'd be locked away.
the world's worst 12 Monkeys remake
Fair. Maybe just go back and grease some escalator treads.
Dauntless, adaptable, and practical. Kudos.
....and HILARIOUS! *greases treads* *switches both escalators to "up"*
We were warned
This shit has been coming since Reagan or before. They played the long game.
Now that was a good year!
Your messaging is not just good, it's great.
Gamification of political participation is an interesting concept.
The idea that politics shouldn't be fun is just something Democrats beat into their constituents. It can be unlearned.
But this is without bathos.
There's a closed bar with (sort of) the same name as this place, that I'm betting is about to see a whole lot of confused foot traffic. It's like 20 blocks away, though, so I guess that's the good news.
Oh that bar saw me and my friends a lot during my 20s 😭😭
Mamdani seems to be the only person running for NYC mayor who actually enjoys the city and the people in it
Love this guy
Guiliani...meet at 4 seasons landscaping
Actually drove past there a few weeks ago and laughed and laughed....🤣
Noon tomorrow.
sounds too easy
@lindseyboylan.bsky.social
OMG can you please clone yourself about 1000 times?
I don't know where that's at. I wanna play even though I'm not there
Dude... I'll get on the train right now and do this fr.
When are we meeting him there?!
Have fun
Great, now I have to Google up New York mayoral history despite the fact I don't even live in that state v.v lol
tbf this one happens to be an aspect of US history that's important for everyone to know if they don't already!
Same.
bsky.app/profile/andr...
bsky.app/profile/andr...
Let the chips fall where they may. Some dip to go with it too.
Teddy Roosevelt?
Nope.
No. He went by “boss”
You might be thinking of the guy that MADE mayors there not the guy that served as one.
Right. The guy made the mayor that shares a name with the star of Notting Hill. And the place that political machine ran from, the group that ran it is the meeting place.
Clever
Oh well, the entries were full when I got there😢
bsky.app/profile/torr...
bsky.app/profile/bone...
Now she'll have to write a book.
I think there is a law or protocol stopping her from discussing it.
Have fun everyone!
See you there!
Damn, I wanna play this!! I know where to get the first clue, but I’m working 😢
it goes from 2-7 if that helps!
Unsure of where it is!
Makes me want to move back to New York for the experience of it all. 🫶
Even if we’re not from NYC we need Mamdani.
All of America needs Mamdani!
A man who couldn't even bench 135 lbs? No thanks. He does not appeal to men and not the type who would win a general election in a non-nyc race.
Right? He's showinf how easy it is for Dems to win: order food like a normal person, don't be openly corrupt, show respect for people and their lives, make em laugh.
Not to mention: Empathy, and staying educated, two things that the Republie-cons don't have in common w him. This is the man that New York needs, after everything that the Reichwing has done to fuck up our progress, we'll need Democratic Progressives to clean up this dumpster-fire shit of a mess.
This in no way benefits the openly corrupt. They happen to have all the power. They are going to turn this dude or destroy him.
You completely missed what I was saying, try again.
No, I think it is the reverse. Typical parasite Ds won't learn a damn thing from Mamdani because that route does not get them or their masters more money. They will destroy or corrupt Mamdani in order to prevent corruption becoming unprofitable.
Nope, missed it again. I was saying Mamdani is not openly corrupt, and that is one people like him. Dems could learn from that and not push eg cuomo or newsom. And they can try sure but no guarantee they succeed and acting like they will is bad actually.
I understood you perfectly. You are wrong, the Democratic Party is rotten to the core and there is no saving it. Mamdani is boarding a sinking ship. It is not a few bad apples. They will make him one of them or they will crush him. There will be no face turn for the Democrats. Losing is their job.
The Ds who are opposing him (every D with power) are corrupt and will learn nothing, because: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it." -Upton Sinclair
Cleaning up after himself is what sells it for me.
Right? And its clear that it wasn't for show - it was too automatic.
I liked Andy Kim when he did that after Jan 6th for that same reason
Basics and you’re correct.
Kamala Harris did all those things. But she wasn't running for mayor of the most liberal and diverse city in the US. That makes it a lot easier.
New Jersey needs Mamdani!
I'm in the UK, but if I were there I would definitely be taking part! What a beautiful idea - bringing people together, focusing on the history of NYC and encouraging use of public transport.
Have fun NYers!
It’s Zohran Kwame Mamdani dropping a cryptic hint, possibly teasing a new project, announcement, or political move. The vagueness sparks curiosity among followers, fueling engagement and speculation about what’s coming next.
Yes thats usually how scavenger hunts work
🤣
Bro dropping first clue to the underground rave
Waving the Herr's chips bag is some cask strength trolling. Cleaning up the trail of chips off the sidewalk afterwards is an awesome touch.
We love you!! 💙🩵💙
Most politics today brings me anxiety. Mamdani brings me a sense of positivity & hope. More of this!
