To me it’s always been the funniest historical take bc it requires forgetting the events of World War Two

and who actually won the war by making it to berlin and getting hitler to lmao himself in the head? and at the time that happened who was busy trying to help as many nazi generals flee the country to avoid being executed and give them cushy jobs in various post war intelligence agencies?

no actually only one army made it to berlin. and one army and intelligence agency were busy rescuing nazi generals from partisans in italy so they could head up the post war german intelligence agency, and only one side put nazi generals into their post war armies.

due to the allied operations and material support on the other side they made it when they did. almost like they were military allies or something.

By contrast, the Soviets took Nazi party members like Peter Adolf Thiessen and uh, put them in charge of their nuclear programs? Used Wehrmacht officers as the general staff of the East German military? Come on now.

"Liberals always side with fascists" I say, while behind me someone shovels the records of nazi-soviet negotiations, agreements, and cooperation into a furnace. (For the record using this as a political attack 80 years later is dumb but it is astonishing how much it reveals)

DDR guy haughtily lecturing a Westerner about how they *actually* got rid of their Nazis before heading off to a meeting with the We Were Literally All Gestapo Agents Until Five Minutes Ago division of the Stasi.

Commies had a lot more to do with winning the war than US liberals. And liberal governments have historically supported dictators against leftist governments around the world. The world is begging y'all to inform yourself.
