unless said person is non-binary, or uses they/them pronouns, or if their pronouns aren't known yet, then yes. I'm glad you're catching on! lol ex: it's misgendering to refer to a cis man who only uses he/him pronouns with she/her or they/them pronouns when he only wants to be referred to w/ he/him

Ok, at least you sound more consistent now. You believe using "they" in any instance where a person's gender is known is misgendering and therefore bad. Whereas before today I only believed denying pronouns was the insult.

This is why you were asked if you were cis or trans earlier. This is why I pointed out that not only do I have a PhD in the field you cited as your major as a shield, but also that I am trans, and asked if I could weigh in. You, a cis person, are finding out quickly how out of your depth you are.

I appreciate your education and experience, although you have not convinced me that nobody uses "they" for a person whose gender is known because in my experience, people do.

And I never will convince you of that. But why do you need to be convinced of that to understand the very basic concept of misgendering at all? Just because people do it, as evidenced by you doing it, that doesn’t make it not misgendering. Bob got misgendered, but Bob’s cis and not particularly

Harmed by it because of that, so he doesn’t say anything. Cool. Whatever. I don’t care about that. What I care about is that you thought that doing the same exact misgendering to your trans cousin was completely okay until someone pointed out that it counts as misgendering. Like, you’re an English

Major. Surely you’ve gotten a little something at this point about power structures, language as a vector of expressing and enforcing power differentials, etc. A little Foucault, Cixous, Irigaray, Dubois, hooks, something that would clue you in on the concept of intent vs

impact and how that relates to power dynamics and racism/misogyny/heterosexism/cissexism/etc. This should already have been known to you. Unless you really don’t apply the things you learn in school to your understanding of the real world, in which case you’ve really missed the point of your major.

I don't think it's that irrational to say I perceived "they" as a neutral word that generally skirts gender, which is why it initially struck me as incongruous to claim it misgenders. I believed it didn't gender at all. The rise of nonbinary people does fuel this somewhat, no?

"in my experience" your experience isn't an experience that has an acute understanding of transness. you're not convinced because you're a transphobic, cis english major who believes that he knows more than trans people when it comes to the topics of misgendering and degendering lmaooooo

Or you could go with what I actually said, which is that I know people do use "they," however technically incorrect, to refer to gender-known folks, because I've heard them use it.

I called you a transphobe because you said transphobic things about providing trans healthcare to trans kids & you complained about how were called transphobic for "questioning trans dogma" again, you need to look up what "implicit bias" means. I asked you to do so earlier. have you done that yet?

Misgendering someone is bad, yes. I don’t care whether they’re cis or trans. It does, however, due to how society poses cis as default, take on an extra layer of badness when done to trans people because it is part of how we are degendered or regendered in an attempt to corral us back into cisness.

No, I can understand that even though I've used the term for anyone in the past, it could be perceived as a denial of pronouns to a trans person, and that that isn't a concern for cis people. If I referred to cis Bob with a "they" in the past, no one thought anything of it and neither did I.

this is how you sound: "no. I don't think cis people are affected more by misgendering than trans people, I just didn't get called out for misgendering a cis guy named Bob compared to when I misgendered my trans cousin, so cis people aren't concerned about being misgendered, unlike you trans people"

Nobody would ever think I was denying Bob was a cis man. In my entire life, if someone wanted to misgender a cis person, they would refer to them with their opposite pronouns. Calling a boy a girl and vice versa. Or "it," perhaps some others. If I say, "they're such a stinker" nobody would blink.

because you talk and act like a transphobic cis person who doesn't know any trans people irl aside from one family member, so you don't know how to refer to her without misgendering her. I've known this from the start. I got it. don't worry.
