he did not write this
he did not write this
whichever staffer did wasn't even trying, even a little angry at working on a long weekend, maybe
An LLM would have done a better job.
A Markov chainer would have done a better job.
M-x yow would have done a... okay maybe not
I would love 5,000 words of analysis formalizing the sense I have in my brain of what is, and is not, the incoherent ramblings from this one particular human being.
I think if you took a bunch of people with lots of tweet history, trained ChatGPT on each of them to try to produce stylistically-similar tweets, he would be one of the people it would do worst at. There's always some personal bent to his free association that is different from background noise.
Maybe another way to say this: I think that while he has lots of word-to-word patterns he reuses, the thought-to-thought entropy in his writing is extremely high and eccentric, in a way that even people trying to deliberately emulate him can't hit.
Absolutely. It’s why there are so few good impersonations of him too, even though it seems like he should be ripe for it. People can copy his weird phrases but no one else can pack like six deranged connected thoughts into a couple words like he can.
I don’t care how long you study him, you will never come up with “nipples protruding, very disrespectful”
He has a case of what we might term “Stochastic dril”
There’s also the part where he’s extremely analytical and sharp within the constraints of enormous prejudice and likely dementia. He says things that are bullshit in totally different ways than his cronies, and usually that require a significantly higher theory of mind to understand
Oh yeah, he doesn’t understand reality but he does understand his audience better than anyone.
His cronies know they’re running a con or a banana republic with specific code words and lingo, but Trump himself believes he’s a sharp guy who knows what’s really going on and is sharing that with you
I will ALWAYS go back to “relationship advice for Robert Pattinson” as a pure window into his psyche and how he sees himself
His vibe is the Onion’s parody of Larry King’s USA Today column if Larry King, albeit more mean-spirited
God, I made a hash of that sentence. Mentally delete that stray “if Larry King” in there
A markov chain that hops between corpuses sentence to sentence might get close.
I have to say while I don’t think this output scans as credibly Trump, it is extremely funny.
I hear that the Dewey Decimal System has been used to hide the banned books in red-state libraries, since the IQ of the average Karen is in the lower double digits and stupid people are practically allergic to libraries
It doesn’t even say “thank you for your attention to this matter” at the end!
he ded
I'm no expert but he's not this coherent long-form, and way too many commas. WAY too many.
Of all the Trump ghostwritten tweets, this is the sloppiest I've seen.
Too few all-caps, and since when is he articulate enough to have the phrase “lo and behold” in his vocabulary?
"(in sunglasses!)" This feels like an attempt at a Trumpian non sequitur but it doesn't feel like the kind of thing he does
"Lo and behold" also doesn't sound like him, nor does "love and respect". This reads to me like a younger nerdy person. It almost reads more like my writing (parenthetical exclamations!) than his, embarrassingly
"while admiring the stonework" yeah, sure buddy, you really nailed Trump in all his glory there
Yeah this is a vast and rich field of textual analysis and we've been doing it for a decade now! You can always tell if he DIDN'T write it, but some of the people with posting privileges try harder to ape the style? This one doesn't have enough weird Capitals.
Most of the time you can see "he typed or dictated and somebody else cleaned it up and posted" because it's basically him but spelled right. But this one feels at some remove from the guy himself. Maybe he had input, editorial suggestions.
It's like when of his new words enters the vernacular and I hate it but also it's ugh actually great. Like covfefe. Or, "SAD!" though I know he's not the real inventor of that one.
wow, that I did not know! (about "Sad!") that's some deep lore! Goes back even before the first election I think.
The way I remember it is @joshtpm.bsky.social memeifying it at some point in 2015 or so but it may have come from elsewhere. I always figured Trump had to have actually used it at some point, but maybe it was just a "print the legend" kind of thing.
www.bbc.com/news/uk-engl... He used it in 2014
Wait, “Sad!” predates Trump?
Yeah I need more info too, heh. It was definitely a stock Trump utterance you'd use to mock him by the time he was president, whether he himself ever actually used it or not.
He's definitely made using, "Sad!" as an ending to a comment a thing. I can't attribute it to him entirely honestly because I think it's such a short, common utterance.
I feel like he popularlized it but I'm pretty sure my dad has been going, "Sad!" after a lot of my antics my whole life lol
He'd absolutely spell it like, "low and be hold!"
