What are you thinking of? I don’t think I’ve ever worn any cycling-specific clothing.
In my case I'll bike to work in my outfit for the day if the weather is temperate, but on a hot day I'll bike in shorts/t-shirt and pack some office clothes to change into. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it is an added inconvenience.
This time of year in Phoenix my husband, who's doing a masters program, bikes to the rec center and showers there. The shower is a necessity.
For some people it is. It isn't necessary for everyone. Biking at a steady pace with similar exertion to walking. Does of course mean flat terrain or an e-bicycle. 8-12 mph on a bike is similar to walking pace for a lot of people. That said, I used to bike 17 miles to work and shower/change.
People I know who bike commute to work or school where there are dress codes. They manage it but it's a hassle.
