8. Spaceport #SST25

8. Spaceport Vaylin sat on the dockside of the spaceport, playing with the adorable little critter she’d taken as a pet some time ago, watching the rest of the Council, including her partner Victor, working on the final stages of assembly of their ship. Their spaceport had been constructed in secret, higher powers and other titanic beings may feel threatened if the group can pull this off, flying into space and being among the stars. Tucked away it was a fairly simple affair, a large warehouse built far from prying eyes, with a few cranes and sets of scaffolding to help with assembly. Vaylin couldn’t really do much but watch, her specialities lie within the weapon systems which had already been installed, while her real passion was living things such as her pet Jade Vine Dragonling keeping her company. Elsewhere within the spaceport her supplies lay waiting to be loaded onto the ship, several crates of animal eggs, kept dormant until a time at which she can safely incubate them, along with a box of plant and flower seeds of various types. She sat for a while before closing her eyes and drifting off, being woken some time later by her partner, letting her know it was time to go, to all board the ship, and fly out into space for the first time.

9. Hunter & 10. Convoi #SST25 I missed yesterday so today is a double feature.

9. Hunter Eddison had been searching for hours, he’d been told to find and enact justice against the council of arcanum for their many crimes. He’d searched all above the planet’s orbit but there was no sign of them whatsoever. For now his energy was spent and he began to drop down to the planet’s surface. It would take years for him to find them, in between he carried out multiple other jobs for his lord, mostly protecting citizens from the chaos unleashed upon the world. Then one fateful day he received a message from a couple of council members, co-ordinates for a subterranean bunker along with a request that they be allowed to leave. Eddison soared through the sky at high speed, launching off energy blasts at the co-ordinates for this bunker, explosions rapidly carving up the ground and opening up a path for him to blast his way in. All but two of the council attempted to stop him, firing off numerous attacks that bounced off his shielding. The two remaining members simply watched as Eddison annihilated the rest with blasts of energy. The couple just giving him a nod as they left hand in hand. 10. Convoi A small group of merchant ships flew quietly through space, trying to give this one planet a wide berth, a strange energy field surrounded it and there were concerns raised about it’s second moon unnerving some of the crew. The captain of the lead ship just wanted to just get through this system as fast as possible, this area of wild space unnerved her, and after seeing through her scope the absolute horror show of what looked like an asteroid, but upon closer inspection appeared to be this horrifying mass that looked like a cityscape had merged with it’s citizenry, she just wanted to get past here as soon as possible. There’d also been a ping on her long distance scope she was wary of, something was out there that could be a threat, but the scanners couldn’t find any further detail. Whatever it was wasn’t pursuing, but it unnerved her knowing something was there. The rest of the bridge crew looked up as she breathed a great sigh of relief as they moved out of range of that system.

11. Dropship #SST25

11. Dropship The moon came up quickly as the ship descended toward it’s surface, the shielding glowing red as the ship entered it’s thin atmosphere, this small explorer class vessel sought to be the first to safely touch down upon the surface. The crew had been fitted with sealed suits for space exploration and stood together ready to rappel down ready to explore. The doors opened and all at once the six of them dropped down, the ropes lowering them the remaining distance to the surface of this moon, as the eerie red glow of the planet’s other moon backlit their ship. Boots on the ground, they all began moving around, exploring, experiencing the differing gravity here, while some of them looked for any rare minerals to pick up and take back, unique items that could be used, or pretty looking rocks or materials that could be taken back to their planet and sold to those groups who worshipped the moon as a deity.

12. Docking and 13. Red #SST25 Another double feature after being too tired last night. Wrote both of these on the train this morning

12. Docking The Council’s flagship moved in close to the pirate vessel they’d crippled, there were many holes in the vessel but fortunately this modified Bombard class freighter’s air bubble was still functioning, allowing the council members and their mechanical servants to board unimpeded aside from the remaining pirates who were waiting. The doors opened and the pirates began firing primitive weapons at them, mainly simple crossbows and slings, most attacks simply bouncing off the shields of the boarding party. One pirate at the back appeared to be some kind of sorcerer channelling a powerful ability, but the council were prepared for this, one of their automaton servants launched a wrist dart in the sorcerer’s direction, the toxin quickly taking effect and suppressing his ability to use any arcane abilities. Fear spread across this large man’s face before he was hit with a barrage of attacks that lit him up like a holiday festival before he fell back, a smoking husk, his staff rolling away to the side of the corridor. The council slaughtered their way through the rest of the pirates, taking complete control of the ship, and victorious they took the ship back to port along with their own flagship. 13. Red Red, the colour of the moon of ill omen, but also the colour of the alert they received today, the planet’s greatest floating city had fallen, the god slaying weapon within had been found about by the gods and their divine fury had torn it asunder, casting it from the sky. The Council, while attempting to make their own comparable weapons, had been more careful, keeping their Forge cloaked and shielded out in space. Yet they knew it was too much of a risk to remain aboard, and so they abandoned the forge for a time, leaving it hidden in maintenance mode. Cloaked from all, the only means of access now via a teleporter synched with the Forge. Security was paramount, meaning that the teleporter was kept hidden underground, only locatable via three technological compasses. Each member of the council would carry one to be stored in a location only known to them, preventing any rogue members from sneaking back to the forge without agreement from others within the council. After this was done, the council reconvened on the planet's surface weeks later, locking themselves within a hidden bunker until such time as the wars raging on the planet were over and it was safe to return to the forge. Unfortunately the council would not survive this long, first their bunker was seemingly infiltrated, a young wizard appeared inside appearing to have been cursed by one of Zarmer’s inventions. Yet during his examination of this young woman, she somehow managed to escape, stealing a variety of their valuable equipment before diving through a portal.

14. Carrier and 15. Wingman #SST25

14. Carrier While many believed the teleporter to be the only way to access the Forge space station now that it’d been cloaked, hidden far out at sea was a supply carrier, tucked away it’s dock disguised as a simple rock formation among many, this small supply carrier could autonomously make trips back and forth between the station and the planet’s surface, with a few caveats. First off, it wasn’t fast, and would take at least a week to fly up and reach the station and drop off any supplies loaded aboard. Secondly, it was only a small vessel with a few compartments, nothing too large or heavy can be carried on board. Thirdly and most importantly, it cannot carry anything living, this isn’t a question of morality, but practicality. There is no space for a pressurised interior, nor power to spare for a functioning air bubble. Had there been more time to develop this supply carrier further, some of those issues could have been fixed. Though in the absence of anything else, the forge can thank it’s continued functionality after all these years to this little autonomous supply carrier, dutifully carrying supplies up to the station over and over again for centuries. 15. Wingman Ace pilot Harra flew his patrol craft following the merchant’s route, the captain of the merchant convoy had reported some weird findings in this system, so Harra and his wingman Reto were here to investigate. At that moment Reto’s voice came over the comm “Hate to say it bud but i’m just not seeing anything, red moon might give me an ominous feeling but the scanners aren’t showing anything, just some storms and primitive life forms. No signs of that weird floating living cityscape either.” Harra sighed before responding “I guess that captain must’ve just been paranoid after all, though I do have a strange feeling too. Maybe let’s follow the route out of the system, stick close together just in case anything does show up?” Reto responds before moving into position “Sure, that’s what good wingmen are for, i’ll follow your lead, keeping the scanners on just in case” It was a somewhat tense journey following the route out of the system, but the scanners remained clear, so they reported as much, even if they couldn't shake the feeling that there was something watching them.

16. Armour #SST25

16. Armour The forge station was able to create many wonders, to some it could create hugely powerful weapons, others could make life sustaining and giving technologies, another used it to build a prototype kit capable of making any land viable for agriculture. But one member of the Council of Arcanum had designs for a powerful suit of armour. A powered suit, allowing everything about the wearer to be enhanced. Thus one prototype suit was slaved over day and night, making the servos, the internal lining, the armour plating and the reactive systems all work flawlessly together. In theory anyone could step inside this suit, and as long as it had power it’d perform as if it were a second skin. A dancer who’d never even slipped into the lightest leather armour could put this suit on and perform their same award winning dances with the same grace. The suit had one shortcoming, and that was how quickly it drained power. Each proprietary power cell would allow for an hour of use, but advanced features such as flight, heavy lifting and enhanced speed would drain the cell even faster. Sadly this suit never saw the light of day, and the unimaginatively named “advanced power armour mark 1” has sat in storage untouched for nearly a thousand years at this point.

17. Mercenary and 18. Ambush #SST25

17. Mercenary The adventurers tasked with finding and destroying the Forge space station were initially hired as a group of mercenaries. The soldier Jarrus had been gravely injured and trapped within a lifeboat when the group came to his aid. Needing allies for his investigation to find this forge before a strange group of cultists got their hands on the tools to access it, he offered the three young people work. Amazingly they all started working well as a team, together finding the first below ground bunker containing one of the access keys they required, before returning to the soldier’s home base, now able to report in. His mercenaries ended up being rather loyal, so their employment was extended, now being managed by the special forces branch the soldier was a member of. The group have been loyal to the cause this long, but it remains to be seen what will happen once they destroy the forge station, if they even destroy it rather than seizing it for their own gain. 18. Ambush! The adventurers were traipsing through a boggy swampland, mud caking their boots as they all moved along in pursuit of the teleporter that’d beam them inside the forge station. They spotted a trio of what looked like human bodies, lying face down in a bog, unmoving. It was only when the young mage Faith stepped in and attempted to try and administer some healing did the creatures attack. Looking like bloated human corpses with extra appendages and limbs, these creatures lunged at the group. The party took the battle to these creatures, shooting, blasting, and cutting them down, and while one of their allies had been knocked down, a small amount of healing energy restored her, and the party were victorious, managing to fend off this ambush in the swamp, becoming one step closer to making it within the forge station.

19. Missiles and 20. Ruins #SST25 These were hard to think of anything good to write about that matched up with the Forge station.

19. Missiles Missiles, a hidden defence system set up around all possible approaches to the forge. These high explosive devices were set up in such a way that they could be fired by anyone who connected themselves to the man/machine interface within the control room. Though at this point, no one ever fired any missiles, and after almost a millennium, it’s entirely possible that these missiles may never be fired, being left to degrade within the firing chambers dotted throughout the forge’s exterior hull. 20. Ruins Hidden deep within a cave atop a rocky outcropping within the northern salt bluffs was an ancient bunker where one of the council’s top scientists went into hiding. He’d kept it safe and had even built a dimensional portal within, allowing his terraforming device to be hidden elsewhere, far outside of the hands of those who would misuse his device. He knew that one day people would eventually come looking for his passkey to the forge, but knew that that day may come long after he had passed away. He decided to take drastic action, constructing a device capable of holding his consciousness. He perfected everything about it, then when the time came, sat in his chair and began the transfer, his body expiring in the process.

21. Junk #SST25

21. Junk The noblewoman’s father was an inventor of some repute, along with being the lord who sent her party to the forge station to blow it up. The party had fought valiantly and slain the surviving council member along with his experiment, a new body built to house the consciousness and power of a demigod. She looked over the machinery used to create this experiment, pieces of glass and metal that once formed a pod, now reduced to a pile of junk and rubble on the ground. She knew she wanted to bring some advanced technology back for her father, and so picked through the pile, picking out pieces that looked to be of interest. Pieces of copper pipe attached to complicated looking valve sets with a series of dials and gauges that seemed incomprehensible to her, but perhaps her father could make use of these. She finished gathering and stowing interesting items carefully in her pack before moving back over to the rest of her party.

22. Fire! #SST25 Trying a more poetic type thing for this one, not sure how it works, but my players named their party the Fire Brigade so this feels somewhat appropriate.

22. Fire! Fire, the most used element wielded by the adventuring party known as the Fire Brigade. Fire, the action used to describe an attack using the firearms that most of the members wield. This party, formed around the rescue of a lone investigator, and endorsed by a powerful nobleman before being joined by his firstborn daughter, now looks set to destroy a great evil sitting in orbit, The Forge Space Station. Fire, the command likely to be issued, setting off a chain reaction to destroy the station, as the Brigade make a daring escape, returning to the planet as heroes.
