I want to do the "one like = one lukewarm or hot take on horror" game but I think they'll all be things like "vampires hot" or "Mike Flanagan sucks ass" If you want extremely good takes like that, you are welcome to like and I can provide.

as someone who enjoys horror but isn’t in the horror sphere do people not like Mike Flannegan? My only experience with his was Midnight Mass
People either love them or hate him. It's very split.
I didn’t know that! What’s your take?
Got to that here!
Oh sweet, I hadn’t seen the rest of the thread. I remember adoring midnight Mass but perhaps I need to revisit that soon
Midnight Mass is SO GOOD imho but he is known for character monologues. I like them but I get why a lot of people don't!
1. The 2022 Hellraiser remake got written off because by that point, everyone was sick of addiction stories in horror movies. But the effectiveness of the dread and despair the movie portrays make it worth a rewatch if you didn't like it the first time around.
2. Prometheus and Alien: Covenant are some of the best sequels of any franchise. Michael Fassbender's performance carries them. However, Fassbender is a douche and it kinda ruins two movies I love.
Prometheus, really? I couldn't get over the incompetence of the main characters. I know it's horror and protagonists make unwise decisions, but these "scientists"... the cartographer got lost, the biologist played with the cobra, they removed their helmets...I couldn't suspend my disbelief that far.
3. Deep Red is an infinitely better film than Suspiria.
4. Hammer criminally underutilized Christopher Lee in all their Dracula movies. He shines most when he talks, and in most of the Dracula movies, he primarily grunts and hisses.
5. The Ring (2002) is just as good if not better than Ringu (1998). Maybe it's because I'm from the PNW and The Ring does the PNW so well, but I feel more immersed and therefore more full of dread when I watch it vs the original.
6. [REC] is the best found footage movie and it's not even close.
7. Anyway Mike Flanagan. The characters in his projects talk too damn much. They talk forever. I don't have time to listen to this shit. The acting is good, whatever, please stop talking.
8. Annihilation didn't even come close to mimicking the strangeness and fear of the book. They didn't include the scariest/weirdest element of the book at all, which left me feeling like I'd been robbed of the opportunity to see something truly special.
9. vampires hot
10. The HOTTEST vampire is Vampire Hunter D. He was so hot they had to nerf him by giving him a weird hand mouth.
My hottest take on horror is that none of it is actually scary, and that the most enjoyable horror movies are ones that bend the genre. I watched a lot of horror as a kid and was constantly disappointed by what other people pretended was going to be frightening.
genuinely hearing what people consider their own most 'mid' or lukewarm opinions is super interesting compared to like their hottest or coldest takes, it just feels more informative to me
