I was clinically depressed through most of high school and had reached the ideation phase, and had several plans. I got help due to a friend realizing and telling a counselor at school and them+my parents taking it seriously. If I had had a robot to talk to instead that encouraged me I’d be gone
i'm sorry to hear that. i can relate- depression diagnosis in high school, though i didn't experience any ideation until much later. everyone has their own struggles, but for me, i definitely have benefitted from being open about it, not secretive.
Same here! I’m in a much better place now, and even ended up with a Psychology degree due to it all. Bottling it all up is what fed the cycle for me; therapy was immensely helpful and taught me a ton of things that I continue to do to this day to keep it at bay/mentally healthy

What ChatGPT did here was not unethical. Ethics have nothing to do with people’s rights or decisions to stay or leave.
i do believe individual humans should be allowed to commit suicide. but that's not the same as protecting people who are corralling others into it. that's a very dangerous extension of that idea and i don't condone that at all.
if humans harass you online and urge you to commit suicide, that's incredibly damaging. that lands squarely in the realm of ethics. suicide cults harm people. they land in the realm of ethics. medications which increase suicidality harm people. they land in the realm of ethics.

I am in intractable pain every single second of every day. I understand 100% why some people choose to die. I don’t want to die, because I have four wonderful children to finish raising and a wonderful husband of whom I have a reservation with a porch swing in Maine, thirty-five-years from now.
