I met with some linear TV folks yesterday. They seem to feel all the late night shows will either disappear or have to be reimagined in a much more cost effective way. My wife works in TV advertising and I can tell you, these shows no longer pull the ad revenue to cover the expenses

Part of the problem is that they are pretty expensive to produce and the advertising market on streaming services (including re-transmission of broadcast networks) is *extremely* fragmented, spread among thousands of advertising targets instead of previously a couple of dozen. It's a changing world.

Yeah but Trump either never watched Star wars or didn't get it. "You can strike me down and I will become more powerful than ever!" You're about to see a resurgence in interest in advertising during these shows just because of the baboon. Gone and shot himself in the foot yet again...

Two of my favorite TV shows are on CBS, and I decided that I will not be watching the season premieres of them this fall, or ever again. It sucks because I did like both, and they were really the only shows that I watched regularly.

I'm not sure you can always totally give up on things you like, but you can limit it. I like South Park and it's part of Paramount. Comedy Central is Paramount and I like it, but I haven't watched it for quite a few years. I'm giving up on most of it. It's amazing how many are bending the knee.

I managed to cut ties with Amazon back in January and didn't even feel it. I got rid of Facebook in 2019 and didn't feel that either. I live in Canada, and we don't have Target, but I've been easily boycotting almost everything American made. And 2 nights ago I cnx Paramount in exchange for britbox

Whatever amount of money Stephen Colbert’s show may have lost, I bet the bonuses the Big Brass made out of this merger will be 2 - 3 times as big. Not only that, like the majority of mergers, this won’t deliver any value to anyone but those who made the deal happen.

It's an awesome experience. I was just in awe of not just Steven Colbert, but also of Louis Cato and the rest of the band. They're so good.

It would be a question of fault, especially for the crew of 200 people that would be out of a job. The show was $40 million in the hole per season and Colbert made $15 million for the season. I guess he has enough to say “🤬 it” and let the crew fend for themselves but it would be his fault.

So, your suggestion to Paramount / CBS is to keep running a show that costs $100 million a year to operate but only takes in $60 million in ad revenue? Even if Colbert and the staff agreed to cut $40 million from their operating budget, the show would still only break even.
