Users hate AI. So tech made it mandatory. Even if you don't use it, it pollutes what you read and how systems make decisions. The computer's hallucinated word is final. And it needs all of your data to do it. In the age of no consent, UX exists to normalized complete acquiescence to surveillance:

Thank you for this piece. I've definitely been facing some social/professional consequences for refusing AI, but I'm lucky to be able to weather the negative consequences, and the positives are worth it for me. So I really appreciate when people like you use your position to call BS on all this

Not only is AI unwanted and annoying, it's also drinking our water, stealing our land, and polluting our air. A wildly unnecessary lose/lose situation.

A.I. is not just drinking our water, but warming it up, warming up our oceans, slowly cooking its inhabitants, heating up our planet, letting it burn … 🔥

It's so absurdly pervasive - so many applications I used to enjoy are now shoving AI in my face and it's hard to find a substitute that doesn't. I'm really hoping some smaller software companies can see this as an opportunity to differentiate by NOT doing AI, and that it pays off.

Yep, and they did it after a viral pandemic blasted through the populace, one where exposure affects people's cognitive capabilities (whether they realized it or not). It's GROSS on so many levels.

This is how deep the AI rabbit hole goes: 1K words and 50 links (many of them to collections of yet more links) and we have only covered ONE of this technology's many problems. And yet this one problem sits at the apex of all the others. If we weren't forced to use it, those problems would go away.

The usefulness of this tech is pathetically narrow. The environmental costs are staggering. The destruction of livelihoods and careers from AI-justified layoffs is only beginning to be felt. All of this could stop if it was possible to say, no thank you, not for me. So they made it that you can't.

I immediately thought of you after finishing the article & wonder if you'll have a take on it, bc its final point on how *at sea* users are left with this product in terms of figuring out what they might even want to do with it, feels like a very UX thing, the kind of non-design you've talked about

Bots know SEO and can be more nimble at positioning themselves in search results than even overpaid consultants. They can churn out a website in seconds that has a tiny kernel of information surrounded with the chatty nonsense that some algorithms out there think adds - I dunno - the human touch.

Especially when even text to speech options and content summary options are becoming increasingly threated by individuals reacting based on fear of ai. This heavily affects sites that are relevent for enabling w3c standard

Rune @runefar.bsky.social

So when it is the age of no consent, for many of us consent and accessibility has only come from increased access to these tools especially as similar tools formerly were worse in quality and less affordable. It means easier ability to say take field courses for disabled individual without setup

Rune @runefar.bsky.social

Where am i getting this. I am getting this cause i and other disabled people have experinced this. Like any technology, ai should of course still be regulated and ai ethics is a good book on the matter but reactionary behavior just ignores people in our society who already benefit from it

Rune @runefar.bsky.social

Like the thing people dont understand in the comment section or perhaps you dont either is while many forms of AI do have issues and i do recomend ai ethics in addressing them, ai as a technology is legitimately helping further access to both self expression and education

Yup. Because in the age of surveillance, if it's used to make money, magically it can't possibly be bad for any of us. The RTT mindset IS geared toward a police state. And given Elonie-poo's fuckery, it has been publicly confirmed that that's the end goal.
