We don’t know what the situation was that led to that particular training. From experience I can say that in a canine pack there can be one pig who bolts his food and then goes after others. Maybe a fight over food led to injuries. We don’t know, so we can’t judge.

im like 60% sure this is ai, even if not entirely, the dogs are way too still for this. the way they all react at the same time is creeping me out.

They have been conditioned to wait until given permission. Had a family member who did it with his dog. He'd place treats in a circle and make the dog wait for permission to take each piece. That poor dog would stay perfectly still for 15 minutes waiting. They heard 'OK!' I guarantee it.

Making a dog perform for its supper is cruel. Train them for safety -- to come when called, etc., or to do work that's instinctive to their breeds and therefore fulfilling to them. Tricks are beneath their dignity. I know many won't agree & that's ok, but it's how I feel and won't change my mind.

Training a dog to wait for its supper is a good way to teach them self control and patience, an important skill in potentially dangerous situations.

An experienced teacher friend once told me, wearily, that some people just can’t self-regulate so instead they outsource their regulation by projecting out into the world their frustration at the dissonance between the world they experience and the world as they would like it to be.

Training dogs comes from what they learn at home. When you can get them to understand that, you have more control outside the house. This isn’t cruelty, it’s training. They need it in order to be able to interact appropriately when they are not at home. This isn’t a trick. They’re learning.
