"Russia's only warm water port in Crimea" is, by legal definition, in Ukraine, but was used by the USSR and later the Russian Federation under a well-established agreement. The warm-water ports of Rostov and Novorossiysk, on the other hand, are wholly in Russia, just less strategically advantageous.

Didn't mean the US pushed Ukraine, but that they pushed *inside* NATO. Decisions to accept new NATO members must be unanimous among existing members (Finland and Sweden had to wait 1-2 years on Hungary and Turkey). Ironically before 2022 Ukraine had no chance of membership due to that resistance.

You see the problem? By saying, "push", you help the Kremlin propaganda hit 2 targets at once: 1) Ukraine has no agency, she is pushed. 2) If Ukraine was not pushed, there would be no war. Both are lies. Instead of saying "NATO", "NATO membership", let alone NATO expansion, use Article V defence.

Hungary would still remain a spoiler, but not the only one. Also ironically, the US is now against it (first Biden, now Trump who doesn't care for NATO anyway). Germany hasn't changed their stance (yet?). Spain and Belgium against too. But a pathway to NATO almost as good, but not without the US.

NATO is dead. The longer the US is NATO member, the lauder will the crash of NATO be. Europeans, incl. the UK, must immediately create an EU defence alliance. It must be based on the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is what Putin+Trump are trying stop, including by this fake "peace talks" going on.

I actually think #NATO (and the US) will survive Trump, but won't be the same. Like a marriage after an affair. NATO is too useful both for the US and the 31 others (assuming Hungary gets rid of Orbán). Article 5 in coma, but there's other stuff. Meanwhile #CSDP and #JEF, and perhaps Euroarmy.

As I said, I didn't mean "pushed to join". Ukrainian government showed NATO interest in 2008. US was strongly for Ukraine being considered, Germany strongly against. In hindsight big mistake. At time interest was lukewarm also among Ukrainians. That changed radically after Russia's 2014 invasion.
