So many brilliant people that were repeatedly told they were stupid because they couldn’t do a parlor trick in their heads. I have so many thought about how we teach math, and the math classes we consider worthwhile /2

(if you design a nontechnical major, and want to require a single math class for well-roundedness (good!) there is no good reason for requiring college algebra. There’s so much more math out there!) Anyway. I left for reasons, and ::waves-hands-at-everything:: I’m grateful to be out /3

At 45, took a remedial math course, taught by former army sergeant. He interviewed us individually, assessed what math he thought would help us the most in our daily lives and taught us accordingly. Now I *adore* Venn diagrams and use them for everything. It's *my* math, the math I *get* and love.

It’s funny: I use the algebra I learned in high school (back in the 90s!) all the time when I’m working in Excel. College algebra (2019?), however, bored the living shit out of me & my need to find &/or plot slopes has been completely nonexistent.

I excelled at math when I got the fuck away from college math and instead got to learn at my own pace and ask questions. I've always had issues with words and my mouth so I got stuck with a lot of "dumbass" tags and knocked down. But watch me do it and notice I understand fine, ignore my mouth.

my freshman year math teacher at college said I was too dumb for computer science and that’s how it took me 5 years and an SSRI prescription to get a bachelor’s wooo now I make sure your CPU works right
