Part of the problem is we have 3 gens of men (X, Mil, Z) who have never been taught emotional awareness, and 3 gens of women who demand emotional awareness. Part is the same men steeped in toxic masculinity, plus a cultural left that fails to replace toxic masc. in maleness.

Part is the socioeconomic pressure of the provider mythos which is still embedded in maleness, and which has very few alternatives to replace it for men in these generations. Meaning self worth is tied to bank accounts and finances, which in a crisis economy is a dire place to sit.

Also the social structures that men participated in have collapsed into systems of economic usury (sports, bars, clubs) and an expectation that spaces for maleness must open to femaleness, but not vice versa. So men are increasingly isolated and have fewer and fewer spaces for maleness.

Much of this is self imposed, some of it is external. All of it is tied in with systems of power such as patriarchy and wealth. But at the end of the day, the men are not okay. We are in a very very bad place and that is very very dangerous.

Sadly, almost all your exposure was from combustion products of leaded gasoline, so if you breathed air ~1970-1980, you were breathing in more lead than any other generation in history. Lead in paint was an issue in the 1920's & 30's.

Ultimately it feels weird to say a demographic is cooked because 56% support evil. However this other demographic is all good because only 43% support evil. If the numbers against outright fascism aren't in the 20's were aren't doing okay.

7/9% feels a bit like splitting hairs. I will cede the 13% warranted a separate mention. If you compared the numbers internally. Say your problematic field is 56% of participants and action x reduces that number to 43% would you consider that problem solved?

I’ve been thinking about the Gen X thing a lot lately. As a Gen X’er myself, I spent the last few decades proud of being part of what I saw as each successive generation aging in a way which seemed healthier than the ones prior. I now see Gen X aging in a decidedly unhealthy and disturbing way.

While Gen X and Boomers certainly seem to actually want what MAGA is selling, there is detachment from reality evident in the way Trump supporters talk about him. I feel like this is partially due to Gen X relative denial of and failure to cope with the aging of our parents and ourselves.

This train of thought stems from the image of Trump asleep at the pope’s funeral with his mouth hanging open. How is it that Trump supporters don’t see or note that? It’s like they still need to believe that daddy is okay and healthy and strong. They also want daddy to be a strongman, it seems.

Considering how much Gen X was tech support for the boomers, rebooting their routers, fixing their printers, teaching them not to TEXT IN ALL CAPS... you'd think there would be more resentment. And yet, there is deferment and a desire to be toadies to a bully. I don't get it.

I keep thinking about this. I know I was told repeatedly that my life should be a 90s beer commercial, but I didn't decide to smash the world because it didn't turn out that way. Why have so many of my brethren chosen the dark side!
