He also defunded mRNA vaccine programs, which is the only hope we have at producing bird flu vaccine at scale. Most vaccines are grown in chicken eggs, and we've already had to cull millions of laying hens. This is definitive insanity.

No, it's not - the bird flu is a worldwide epidemic, and there are other countries with chickens also doing research. Whether the EU or Chinese get there faster than the US would have remains to be seen, and how much they charge us for leftover products does as well.

I'm not sure what you were objecting to. It's Insanity that half a billion dollars of grants for mRNA vaccine development was just canceled. Nobel Laureate Katalin Karikó had to smuggle cash in her daughter's teddy bear to come to the US to do her groundbreaking work. We had been leaders.

Oh, of course it's appalling. But it may not be as much of a disaster for the world, or even the country, as the Trumpers would like.

So much research was being done here, and researchers, graduate students and equipment can't move as quickly as we need. H5N1, which has already moved just some humans, is nothing short of terrifying with 75-100% mortality in poultry. www.vet.cornell.edu/highly-patho....

“healthy ferrets in cages next to ferrets that were infected with different doses of the virus from the dairy worker…17% to 33% of ferrets in adjacent cages were infected by respiratory droplets… All directly infected ferrets died within 6 days” H5N1 WILL DECIMATE WHEN JUMPS H2H, AIRBORNE & NO ONE 😷

Read John M. Barry's "The Great Influenza". The early chapters are a good overview of epidemiology. Another book I can highly recommend is Dr Steffanie Strathdee's The Perfect Predator, about using bacteriophages to save her husband from a superbug. @superbug-slayer.bsky.social

Thank you for posting this. It's truly terrifying. The handful of us who keep up to date on vaccines and wear respirators may be the only survivors. I spent today at a hospital. My N95 was on all day, and I'm pretty sure I was the only person in the building wearing one.

And you’re smart to wear respirator in hospitals. I’ve been in and out of a few over the last year, even during cold&flu season w/ unmasked people in waiting rooms coughing & sneezing, people don’t even cover their mouth anymore😣 My N95 protected! Sorry you’re in hospital, glad you’re taking care😷

Oh, I'm perfectly fine. I'm serving as caregiver for my brother's oldest friend, who is dealing with Parkinson's. I spent all of 2023 shepherding my late wife through stage 4 small cell lung cancer, without either of us having a symptomatic case of covid.

Me and my late wife Vickie Mapes Williams. She is wearing a black T-shirt, I am wearing a gray one. She has a maroon and black hat on. We are both wearing high quality respirators.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve both gone thru such a challenging journey, and my condolences 🙏💜💜💜 On top of the Parkinson’s caregiving that’s so challenging on its own 💙 Hope you’re also taking just as great care of yourself by resting & recharging and avoiding caregiver burnout

Thank you. I couldn't save Vickie from cancer, but I could keep her as healthy as possible to make her final wishes come true…a concert by her favorite artist, singer Happy Rhodes, and an Alaskan cruise. Happy ran the GoFundMe to send us. I can't thank all of Vickie's family and friends enough.

Sounds Incredible! What beautiful memories 💖 a thrill to be at a live music event post 2020 + 😷😷😷🙌🤘 What an incredible community of support you have! ❤️ So refreshing & hopeful to hear community support is possible for respirator-wearing Covid-aware folks. Many of us have been abandoned

Good on you! ✊😷 I N95 too so I’m prepared for H5N1. When experts are saying this pandemic is imminent, we should all be concerned & demanding vaccine prep. But like Covid, people don’t know. RFK has muzzled researchers, CDC, media. When you want the truth, look to insurance industry & economists!👇

“A new study reported by the CDC shows H5N1 bird flu has developed the ability to spread through the air. In other words, it’s officially airborne. …current administration canceled a $600 million contract with Moderna to develop an H5N1 vaccine” The public has no idea. H5N1 will be devastating. 😞

Bird flu is worldwide and has decimated chicken populations in other countries as well.

Fortunately, other countries are vaccinating their chickens. Of course, the giant chicken companies that have caused US poultry farmers to have one of the highest rates of suicide in the world (double the general population) don't want to spend the money. www.ruralhealth.us/getmedia/98f...
