It didn’t have to go with him if he had groomed and trained a group of possible fucking replacements instead of clinging selfishly to the levers of power until we finally pried his rigor mortis-d fingers away

Voters in that district voted for Rep Nadler every election and they will choose who replaces him. If it's not your district, then none of your business.
Ah yes, because the other 434 members of Congress definitely never vote on anything that ever fucking affects me in my district in any way, OBVIOUSLY
This is how democracy works, what you are asking for is to disenfranchised the voters of that district just because you don't like their Rep. How would you like it if someone took your vote away. You think like an entitled child, grow up You want a better government, be a better citizen.
At ANY FUCKING POINT in the last 15 elections were the D voters in that district offered ANY ACTUAL VIABLE OTHER OPTION in a primary? Because if not, I’m not the one doing disenfranchisement.
Google is free, look it up. Also if you don't like what the Democrats do, then don't vote for them. Simple as that. And please don't ask them to save you, because it sounds like you're not going to like anything they do anyway.
He's been my congressman for I think one cycle now (Ever since they re-districted). I'm happy he's going, but he has been way better than I expected. Him getting on the Mamdani train right after he won the primary was really refreshing when a lot of other NY Dems didn't want to risk it.
Honestly I’m not super surprised that there’s an overlap between “prepared to endorse Mamdani instead of still hoping for Cuomo” and “understands that maybe he shouldn’t join the growing list of Dem Members who die in office”
What do you mean "possible fucking replacements"? It's a seat in the House of Representatives. You run for election.
Yes, and you COULD, if you’re not a power hungry monster planning to live forever and never give up the office, bring people up on your staff and in your org who the voters also get to know and recognize so that when you finally decide to fucking retire voters are already inclined towards them
In fact, if you feel that your party is on the right track and should keep going in the same direction in the incredibly unlikely event you DON’T actually live forever, that would have been the SMART move And that way you can also PASS ON THE INSTITUTIONAL KNOWLEDGE
Name me one staff member on any representative or senator's staff, ever, in history, whose name you knew prior to the retirement of that politician.
You are just restating the issue.
No, I'm not. I'm pointing out that saying Nadler is a "monster" for not doing what *no ethical politician does* is ridiculous.
I'm also frankly skeptical of anyone who calls Jewish politician "power-hungry monsters" in response to news that they're stepping aside.
Aside from that, I genuinely find it problematic when politicians try to anoint successors instead of letting the political process work. What you're describing is cronyism, and New York has had quite enough of that.
