So this was something activists in Europe dealt with at the beginning of the full scale invasion of Ukraine, I amongst others were targeted online. Some basics are scrubbing all your existing accounts of anything you don’t want reposted to the entire world, setting up nested burner emails and signal
I used proton mail but there are others available for secure emailing. Likewise try to limit your text based communication on non-secure platforms. When you post do not have anything that shows where you are. Including small things like electrical sockets, which tell which country you’re in.
Using specific accounts for specific communications, self deleting messages, constantly scrubbing your history on sites can eliminate most of your issues. The goal is to make it hard, not impossible, as that is not possible to do really if you are openly doing political work online.
I primarily use my influencer tag in all public communications now, and not my name. As I attract a lot of far right hate and threats. This is a good idea and helps separate you from your work more. There is a reason activists have always used pseudonyms. You get targeted otherwise.
Also setting up member only private sites, forums or chat rooms is a great way to have a space you completely control, social media is not a private space on any level. But your small private invite only forum can be. But don’t imagine it is completely safe either.
Also use hard and complex passwords. Most people don’t but that string of random numbers is leagues better than your birthday. Also keep in mind you are constantly sharing data to be used and resold online. This can be bought and used against you politically. So guard your user data like a hawk.

No perfect solutions, but encrypted messaging is an important tool. But always message under the assumption that the content will be decrypted by hostile parties after a long enough time with the raw intercepted data. As always, in-person meetings can be fairly secure, unless infiltrated.
It's more likely for attacks targeting the servers or devices themselves. Post quantum encryption won't be decrypted for a long time.

For me, creating one or more bank accounts in other countries and moving some of your assets there, in case they start seizing assets, freezing accounts, etc as part of their "retribution". The IRS can "empty" any U.S. bank account without warning or notice.

Well, I would AVOID any country that is on the terrorism or US Sanctions list for obvious reasons, but beyond that, you'll need to do your own research. Putting in writing to strangers (and government entities likely monitoring SM) WHERE you are moving your money isn't wise.
You can't just open a bank in any country and start moving money. It doesn't work like that. Some have citizenship or location requirements. Most, if not all, will comply with any US sanction and you'll be out your money anyway

I wish I’d written something properly on this topic at some point because it’s something I know a lot about and the advice here so far isn’t very good. Listen my number one tip is unironically to be sensible and avoid doing silly shit.
There’s a huge number of ways to be actual helpful and effective that have nothing to do with anything that is likely to make you interesting which is your ACTUAL goal here. You aren’t any good in jail and you’re a danger to your friends and those around you when you become interesting.
the majority of the advice out there is built for a world that no longer exists and trying to piece things together from random security manuals is a quick way to have a bad time. it’s really not a learn on the job skill set UNLESS you’re doing sensible things to begin with.
You can be effective or you can be interesting but I don’t recommend trying to be both. Secrecy is actually incredibly difficult in a world full of sensors tracking your every move and conversation and far less glamorous than you might be lead to believe so try to avoid it where you can.

This would be something a government worker would ask so they can have a handy list of people to snitch on if they ever needed a bargaining tool to save their own neck.
It can be useful to combine the use of VPNs (only those with track records of never keeping any history of connections), with encrypted messaging apps like Signal. It helps to add layers to make it much harder to know who connected to what servers and when.
Note that VPN companies over-promise a multitude of miracles to sell their service. Basically nothing that they claim is completely true, but purposefully blurring your tracks online never hurts.
