A gift from expat Americans both now gone from us. No clue what the origins of the piece are, or when. So far, possibly 1930s UK....

Ps tips about what the wood is, also welcome
It looks late Victorian to me. Arts and crafts ish. It lacks the art nouveau or art deco ishness of Edwardian stuff. Those feet are of a period. I'll poke around some of my ref books and see if I can find anything more
I will say that the basket looks like an add-on.
I will try get a closer look at the basket fitting. I should say i knocked the basket, and it looks off the clip in this. I like the basket less than the rest because it feels flimsy, but I hadn't considered it could be retrofitted
The closest I have found so far supposedly dates from the 60s and isn't round... pin.it/5vUhnJSHZ
Yeah, those feet are flat to the ground
those are yeah, but there are whole swathes that shape with variations in feet..... but then they also have a different handle.... Nothing seems to be the same shape at all....

I'm sort of coming to the "victorian 'home made' rustic sewing table" idea.... like it's "in the style of" nothing particular but with victorian legs but not 'finely' crafted...
apparently those are possibly "bobbin legs" which seems entirely apt for a sewing table
It's a style. It looks like the legs are made quite robustly. It's 3 parts fitted together. Mind if I pass the image on to my brother who might be able to get my dad to comment?
90% of similar units I've seen have fabric underneath.
