Cutting wood is fighting the fire, though - it's not a support role, it's fuel reduction. Wildland fires are primarily fought by stopping the fire from advancing by removing fuel from it's path.

CBP claims they were helping BLM with a criminal investigation of two contractors and while taking IDs they just happened to grab these two guys who supposedly weren’t part of the investigation. BLM ended up terminating two contracts entirely and 42 firefighters were escorted away.

BLM won’t say why they quickly terminated the contracts with these two companies other than the boilerplate BS of they cooperate with federal law enforcement.
