As a raven, you'll mainly be flying around the open world. The open world will be relatively small. There will be mountains and floating islands, and some areas won't be accessible right away or only through certain ways 2/6

The raven is an astral form and can only move using a resource called astral power. Going upwards burns a ton of astral power, so you can't just fly up to the top of the temple on the highest mountain 3/6
If you crash into a mountain and turn into a human, you'll fall quickly and probably die from fall damage. But if you fall as a raven, you can flap your wings, slow down, and maybe take off again from the mountainside 4/6
I think that dying from fall damage can be more frustrating for the player, BUT it makes it easier for me as a dev to balance things like "places you're not supposed to reach, you won't reach" 🙃 5/6
This might sound super restrictive right now, but the world will still be very open for exploration. You'll be able to count those "unreachable places" on one hand 6/6
How about a toggle allowing players to choose on their own? Info text explaining the impact of the setting, perhaps tied to a buff / nerf on a character trait. #velkyn #gamedev #indiegames
As a toggle in the options, hmmm, not sure about that! But an upgrade/trait in-game? 🤔 Not a bad idea, that could work, thank you!
I think yes, turn into a human however, be able to jump off the wall or something and turn back into a bird that lets you glide back down instead of hitting the ground and dying Hitting the wall can engage a temporary no flying mode that turns off flapping because you're dazed or something
That's a very good suggestion! Sounds like a good compromise, thank you 😊
