Any driver account of events re: their involvement requires verification, because they have a terrible habit of telling lies. It takes a lot for a cyclist to lose their sh!t because their immediate priority as a VRU is their own safety.

Ha! Even with video evidence from the victim, police still fucking side with the driver.
I know you’ve had several instances like this and your local police force deserve the reputation they have for it. Shouldn’t be a post code policing lottery, which is why I firmly believe that there should be a a centralised and dedicated unit to process video submissions nationally.
Honestly I think insurance companies should deal with reports of bad driving, it's their politics at risk & thus their money.
Agreed, they can play a part in offering a deterrent. I’m not sure of the legal implications I.e. whether it has to follow police prosecutions, but if not they could definitely partner with 3rd party portals where a lot of riders send in their footage.
Well if they helped, we could see drivers choosing to drive better before police need to get involved. After all insurance companies can refuse to insure those who's a financial liability. And any they deemed a police matter, they could forward to the police.
Just one example of many. I use this to see if there’s any hotspots to avoid on local rides. Registration details present on the vast majority of submissions. bsky.app/profile/upri...
Seems like something that should be more formalised. Makes a lot of sense and hitting bad/dangerous drivers in the pocket is one of the most effective deterrents there is.
Well, risk of not getting insurance should be a good incentive
Definitely.
