All of that stuff can’t be done by the house alone, though. I personally don’t want to see a glut of dead on arrival showmanship bills
Yeah, they should be peddle-to-the-metal real fights. The winning isn't the point in this case. It's to grind and frustrate and hurt.
They can do both. I don’t see why it has to be either or. Unload on them and don’t stop.
They can also hold hearings. Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of hearings.
You understand that without the majority, Democrats cannot bring any of these to the floor. Please tell me you understand this. Please.
Please tell me you can read. Please.
Please tell me you understand that the Senate is as necessary as the House. Please.
You missed the point bro. Do you think a guy who spent his whole career in politics doesn't understand this? There's no chance Democrats take the Senate so he's saying the House Dems need massive resistance. Try to keep up.
Just weirdly flailing at this point, brother. Not sure why. No one needs you dashing to defend their honor, so relax.
Just take the L. You made a dumb post because you didn't comprehend the intent of the quoted tweet. It's ok. It happens. Just say, sorry, I was wrong.
None of this is meaningful without the Senate. I can explain it to you, but I can't help you understand it. T. Greg thanks you for your chivalry. 😂
In an alternate universe, fur. But in this universe, never gonna happen with the current democratic leadership. I'll just sweep under the rug and just move on.
I am going to say maybe everyone and their mother doesn't need Secret Service protection I was reading about that John Bolton raid and apparently he had Secret Service details up until a few months ago
He was on that Iranian hitlist, so that would be why.
Seems pretty wasteful we probably spent millions on protection details based on a "hit list" Seems like it'd be a smart move by enemies to just release lists like that to waste our resources
@joeneguse.bsky.social @hickenlooper.senate.gov @bennet.senate.gov
None of it can be done without a Presidential signature or 2/3 veto override anyway. Showmanship bills are all that will happen from January 2027-2029 -- better they be aggressive showmanship bills than milquetoast or nothing at all bsky.app/profile/moin...
They have to find a way to communicate about it, though. The Republicans voted to repeal the ACA over 50 times after they took back the House in 2010, and it didn’t matter. The highest priority, now and in the future, is to retake control of the info environment.
One of the huge issues the Democrats have is that Pelosi and her camp have always had the opinion that "nothing" is better than a bill that fails on the floor Which, honestly, is fucking insane to me and I don't know how they got so much power with such bad instincts
Not even failing on the floor, but failing in the next house or when vetoed.
yeah it's wild honestly Like if the Dems aren't 100% sure it'll pass they don't even try Which makes them look like feckless cowards While they think it makes them look like tactical geniuses, except they're getting outplayed by morons
Then so be it. Statute of limitations to prosecute most federal crimes is 5 years, so until 2032. Doubt Trump pardons all of them bsky.app/profile/madm...
And even if he tries, I want the baseline to be "Trump was never eligible so all his actions and appointments are void"
100%
It's literally all going to be performative – 100% of it – without 2/3 supermajorities. Trump isn't going to sign any of it, so you'd need veto overrides bsky.app/profile/mwei...
Bingo And assuming it's filibustered in the Senate, you use it as leverage for the 2028 Senate cycle bsky.app/profile/isaa...
bsky.app/profile/croo...
Dems will easily retake the House. Low-but-nonzero chance they retake the Senate too. bsky.app/profile/erob...
I think the senate is in play.
That GOP Senate primary in Texas is going to be vicious Paxton is insanely petty *and* openly corrupt, and Cornyn has decades of consolidated power and allies Beto got within striking distance of Cruz not that long ago, and if Paxton is the nominee a Dem could take him
Correct If you want to "control the narrative," you have to create a narrative bsky.app/profile/wqsa...
Elections are run by the states. There's nothing Trump can really do, and even in red states their ability to tinker with rules is limited by the reality all elections for every office have to follow the same rules bsky.app/profile/real...
Yeah. Unless I’m mistaken, the American system of localized elections is unique to… America.
(Meaning that all the election-tampering advice Donnie is getting from his autocratic buddies is useless.)
I think people misunderstand how election tampering works outside of full on authoritarian regimes, it's only useful for tinkering at the edges and in tactically important locations, and even then it's iffy if an extra 5% of the population votes it basically doesn't work at all
Yep bsky.app/profile/jarl...
You see the quote-skeet you replied to? Then the screenshot that's being quoted in that quote-skeet? Then the first clause in that screenshot? bsky.app/profile/beau...
But they can intimidate voters into not showing up to the polls….
@gregdoucette.bsky.social Still, I hope state law enforcement in the states that are in play are prepared and have gamed out all the possible mischief.
?
the trumpy red states cancelling the midterms while the blue and purple states go ahead doesnt exactly *help* trump
They won't cancel elections though because they'd have to cancel all the state and local elections as well
Trump can send iCE into blue cities and harass minorities into not voting.
*cries in "judge Griffith challenges ballots but only for his race and no other race"*
“Messaging bills” can have a lot of utility when used correctly.
Politics is performance! The republicans understand this.
Jesus christ yes please stop defending and start attacking in the media.
I want to believe, but there's another voice in my head telling me, "you still think there's going to be fair elections, you dumb b*tch?"
The election won’t be fair but unfair doesn’t mean unwinnable. The election in WI a few months ago wasn’t fair: regime media lying its ass off, oligarchs openly trying to buy votes, etc, and the opposition candidate won handily There are degrees of unfair
Wish the Dems weren't such cowards or else they might give me hope
here's a question -- can the Senate filibuster a rule-changing the filibuster?
They had the trifecta 4 years ago and did none of the trump proofing that was needed. They did not even try.
They aren’t going to take either chamber. They should be thinking about how to act like a dissenting party now.
Greg all I'm hearing is that we need to win 2/3rds supermajorities next year. We better get to work!
Investigations can be done with a bare majority. If they have any sense we could gin up a Benghazi a week.
Then it’s beginning to sound like you guys REALLY understand what is actually necessary whether any of yall want to admit it. There is NO WAITING till ‘29. Country will be forever changed by then. Let me know when the violence starts. 👍
I'm actually curious about ICE doing state crimes with their actions actually. Gonna find that one out, I think.
Every time one of these bills gets vetoed, it will start a very loud argument about the issue it raises. For example, "Nationalize SpaceX" will have people asking why we privatized NASA in the first place. These are all conversations we desperately need to have.
And every second spent on fighting over one of them, in the press or in government, is a second Republicans aren't getting to shape the argument.
Exactly
Yup. Force the republicans and trump to vote against/veto every bill coming out of the House. It's like they should be doing now. Vote against everything this clown car administration and House cowards are doing. I don't care if the nominations will still pass, show some spine.
DOA showmanship bills are what the Rethuglicans submitted for years. Remember the Impeach Biden bills that MTG submitted yearly? Yeah they weren’t passed but the media in Hicksville reported on them
How do we get the Democratic party leadership to throw out their worthless (and outrageously expensive) consultants and hire Stuart?
What I like Dems to do is organizing fired fed employees to explain to the public the important work they did that no longer exists, the impact on their lives, and how this admin is not only dysfunctional but actually actively doing grave harm
@stuartpstevens.bsky.social has the start of Project Democracy 2027.
Man. I am not disagreeing with you here, but what a hell of a journey from when I 'met' you just slightly pre threadnaught? Because Shep maybe Or Richard at the aclu? To here. I mean can you imagine you saying this back then?
I would add removing qualified immunity to that list. Make it retroactive.
Restore Bivens. Repeal All the b******* emergency powers of the presidency.
And then comprehensive electoral reform, 6 new Supreme Court Justices, and DC and Puerto Rico statehood.
(six new Supreme Court justices only when we have a Democratic president, of course)
They control the Treasury. They will spend even if Congress cuts off appropriations and dare the Fed, who they will then control, to bounce checks on the Treasury account.
If Senate is won, do not allow senators like Manchin or Sinema to block everything they don't like. Shame those that put up road blocks. Get rid of the filibuster to pass 80/20 Dem issues. 1st anti-corruption legislation. Forbid stock trading by lawmakers, emoluments enforcement mechanisms to start.
Allow the states, groups or individuals to do enforcement.
Nothing in the middle of the road other than yellow lines and dead armadillos. LOL Needs and Aussie version: Nothing in the middle of the road other than white lines and dead possums (the kangaroos end up off the side for some reason).
We need some Dems to be replaced. The head in the sand, follow the rules bs is not going to get us out of this mess.
i had to chuckle when i got to the dead armadillos
I'm not sure if it was a saying earlier, but that's the title of a book Jim Hightower published in 1998.
And yet, they won't.
The SpaceX / Starlink stuff is performative. Much more useful would be a bill that states the tariff-taxes on foreign trade are restored to the level in effect on January 1st, 2025. And updating the economic emergency provisions so that POTUS cannot impose tariffs without the consent of Congress..
As I understand it, the only thing keeping the tariffs alive before the ruling was a resolution saying all the days in this year were one day. That ends with this Congress. (And that's for tariffs ordered with the stated emergency. For others... Not sure, but they bear investigating.)
I am way beyond moving on. I want the revenge tour.
Honestly, I think all of that would lead to a Dem bloodbath in 2028. I've grudgingly come to the conclusion over the past 10 years or so that the American electorate is reliably centrist. They don't like Woke politics and they don't like nutty MAGA politics. Be competent and push centrist policies.
