Spent the afternoon/evening with one of my friends and mentors from work, who's retiring and emigrating. We had a small-but-festive retirement celebration And y'all I am *so* tired π I pray to have as much energy as he does when I'm his age

(He's not even that much older than me!)
Started today at the La Brea Tar Pits, which was a ton of fun π¦΄π¦£π€ ...Then went to LACMA since I was right there... ...Then went to the Academy Museum since I was right there π€ͺ Then to Little Tokyo for late lunch at Daikokuya
Decided to walk back from lunch, but took a slightly different path than Friday Totally by accident, passed the Bradbury Building that was on the to-do list (but they were closed), then realized it was next to Grand Central Market so went through there, just to exit and see the Angels Flight
Did the obligatory tourist thing and rode that π Back to the hotel to pack, then got dinner and drinks with one of my good friends from undergrad who I hadn't seen in 15 years π€― (who is doing *amazing* stuff in Hollywood too!) We then recreated a photo we took at my college graduation in 2009 π΄πΌ
I'd share the photo but time has not been flattering to either of our physiques π€ͺ
First solo trip I've taken where I can confidently say I've squeezed as much as I possibly could into the time I had π₯° Early flight out of LAX in the AM so heading to bed forthwith *THANK YOU* to all of y'all who shared recs on things to see in Los Angeles! More to do next time
Glad our city was good to you, and safe travels home!
Great first trip for sure, saw quite a bit more than thought I'd have time to see! bsky.app/profile/city...
Somehow lost my sunglasses π© This will be at least the 10th pair either lost or broken since law school
Only do it by accident, b/c it roughly coincides with when the Mrs became an eye doctor and started asking why I kept getting ugly+cheap $5 suns I'm like "anything fancier will be a waste of money b/c I lose them" She tried to prove my wrong, got me nice ones She failed bsky.app/profile/hear...
The annoying part is I distinctly remember having my glasses when we left the bar. I had them dangling from my shirt collar, and moved them to my pocket b/c I didn't want to crush them giving my friend a hug goodbye Didn't notice they were MIA until this AM heading to airport @hearsay.bsky.social
I feel seen on this one. I have a terrible history with losing sunglasses. However, I think having more expensive sunglasses brings two benefits: (1) they are more comfortable to wear, and (2) I pay more attention to them so I'm less likely to lose them. Maybe I'm just rationalizing.
It never occurred to me to segregate my lost sunglasses count into before and after law school totals.
Sounds a lot better than my only trip there. My experience was βWelcome to LA, have some food poisoning within hours of landing!β Really need to visit again
Angels Flight is one of the coolest things LA has to offer! Not touristy at all and worth it. Such a cool little treat. The thing I love most about LA is all the little pockets of weird and cool counterculture that have stayed strong under the shiny sheen of the entertainment industry.
When they reopened Angel's Flight in the 90's, my grandpa made a painting of it that hung on my parents wall at home, and I wish I could get a shot of it to post here
Fucking love it. Grand Central market for lunch, take a quick trip up the hill, admire the view and come back down. It's a nice afternoon.
Had I realized it was so close by, I wouldn't have eaten so much at lunch π©
Hey you got in some of the best of la for your short time here. If you got in a visit to the beach and to look at pretty downtown, that's not bad at all. Where else did you go?
Lengthy list, you'll have to scroll the thread π
Ouch.
I noticed! You did well. Lacma is phenomenal. Lots of Jasper Johns which is my shit. And that lovely lawn outside is free for hanging out smoking a doob having a beer and they have free music on Fridays in summer!
@gregdoucette.bsky.social Daikokuya is top shelf. Sounds like a great day.
It was good! My only regret is I really wanted the spicy miso, but talked myself out of it b/c I have a tendency to splatter droplets on my shirt even when using my napkin as a bib and didn't want red-colored splatter -- so I talked myself into the tonkatsu instead π€¦ββοΈ
@gregdoucette.bsky.social Next time! It's especially cozy when it's raining out. π
You're a bad ass, please continue, for all you're followers!
Its the LA air... that or the cocaine, its LA its hard to tell.
