That’s not what doxxing meant. Doxxing was the step before swatting, meaning addresses.

"the act of publicly providing personally identifiable information about an individual or organization, usually via the Internet and without their consent." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doxing The internet took a video with only their faces & used it to publicly provide their personal info. That's doxing
That may be common usage now, but that’s not what it meant.
It pre-dates swatting "The term derives from the slang "dropping dox" ... an old-school revenge tactic that emerged from hacker culture in 1990s. Hackers operating outside the law in that era used the breach of an opponent's anonymity as a means to expose them to harassment or legal repercussions"
Is that from an AI summary?
It's from the wiki article I linked earlier, which is pulling from this Wired article from 2014. www.wired.com/2014/03/doxi... I'd never be caught dead using AI, I think we can agree there that it fucking blows.
Good. I started following the hacker community as a kid about 91’-92’, but was reading lot of textfiles from the 80’s then too, so if the wiki particle is correct, I’m wondering just why I haven’t seen anything to that extent. Maybe their OPSEC was gold, whoever it came from.
