I think what people are saying, without explicitly saying it, is this version of Arsenal, with Arteta manager and Odegaard as most important player, need to win now or there is a fairly strong case that both of those things should be upgraded if they want finally get over the line.

Not sure Odegaard is the most important player. Captain, sure, but our best player is Saka, so in my mind that makes him our most important one. Every project has a shelf life. Ours isn’t this season. But in 2/3 years if we still haven’t won anything? Then maybe it’s time to look at something new.

As Liverpool fan, I’m happy you have so much patience. I’m curious what you’d consider a successful season/enough progress this season to give it more time? Is second place and a decent run in CL enough or do you need to win something?

I’d say it depends how close we were in second. Another season like last season is obviously a big issue. But level on points but lose the title by 1 goal on GD? That’s a very different story. I also think we have a deep enough squad to have a go at at least one domestic cup.

As for patience, Klopp won one league title, one CL, one FA cup and two league cups in his nine years. Arteta’s won one FA cup, having been in charge for 6. So I’d say if he were to win a couple of league cups, a league title and a CL in the next 3 years he’s done pretty well.

Also this argument is quite loaded. It’s Mikel’s first job in management. Klopp was still doing nothing at Mainz after his first 5 years & as good a job as he did at Dortmund, he won 3 trophies in seven years there too.

Is it more important that Arteta is given time to prove he can win or that Arsenal win?

I think he’s already more than demonstrated he can compete for the title. Also I think there’s a much bigger chance that if he was sacked things would be much worse at Arsenal without him. And why would they go that route just as the young squad he’s assembled are coming into their prime?

Most LFC fans thought the same when Klopp was leaving, but the change has actually regenerated things more quickly than Klopp likely would have been able to do.

From the outside looking in, it felt like Klopp was burnt out competing with City’s unlimited money machine rather than a proactive decision by the senior management to remove him. Maybe after a similar amount of time Arteta will go but the next two seasons are key from an Arsenal pov.

That’s my take on it. They won’t sack him. But his contract has 2 years left to run. So I think there have to very clear improvements in these next 2 years or they can’t in good conscience renew him without at least exploring the market of managers out there.

Again, I find it funny you think he won’t be able to deliver trophies to us and yet are trying to make very strong arguments to sack him and “improve” with someone else. Why would a Liverpool fan want Arsenal to hire a new manager if doing so would win us trophies at their expense?

After 6 years, Klopp had reached 2 CL finals, winning one, and had 2 seasons of high 90's points total in the league, winning once and reached multiple other finals. I'm not sure there is evidence Arteta is able to do that, but that is just my outside perspective.

If you genuinely believed that you wouldn’t say so. Liverpool fans wouldn’t feel the need to point out he wasn’t winning trophies bc you’d want us to keep him. I made the exact same criticisms of Poch at Spurs. Why? Because he was the best manager they’ve ever had and would’ve won them stuff.

I do want you to keep him, just surprised Arsenal fans are so willing to do the same. The risk is players like Saka and Saliba lose faith and decide to move on. Those new contracts signed yet?

I wouldn’t worry about it. Unlike Konate, Saliba’s got 2 years left. Reckon Real’ll have their new CB partnership in place next summer. Thanks for that by the way.

Perfect timing for LFC to sign them both on a free to replace VVD and Salah 😉

Nah, see, unlike you, we don’t let our academy players run down their contracts and leave on a free. Trent says hi by the way. All jokes aside, if they don’t renew by next summer we’ll sell. We won’t let them run their deals down. But I’m not worried, both will probably sign before Christmas.
