It's real, I canceled an order from TEMU yesterday when I saw the >100% import charge.

Here is a receipt yesterday. 4 items, cost 5.20 each (explained in an earlier post). $61 after a discount.

More interesting is how China cheats on shipping. You do not ship a low cost item like this for free and still make money unless you are being heavily subsidized by the Chinese post office.

It mysteriously have just started. I ordered 2 weeks ago and wasn't charged any important fee. But I'm not at all surprised. Realize, too, that Temu sells some things and other vendors sell items, too.

The De Minimis tax rule was cancelled by Trump, to take effect on 2nd May, meaning all small parcels will be directly taxed. That is why it has taken effect now.

Tariffs went into effect March 22. Then they were raised, but I'm not sure when that went into effect. The last reported rate is 150%, so that may be what Temu is going by. The Melon Felon is so all-over-the-place on this, it must be nigh on impossible for exporters.
