I already know my taxes aren't going to hospitals as much as guns for cops. I'm not happy about it and I can't get these dickheads from taking it, but I'd way rather have my money going to a hospital than almost anything. Education, food, health, homes... anything else is second tier.

Rural areas are more politically heterogeneous than urban ones, they’re not competitive because it’s more of a 60/40 split in favor of conservatives vs an 80/20 split for liberals in urban areas. It’s part of the reason why geography based representation is flawed.
