If you grew up in a household with an evangelical right-wing parent, as I did, you already know that the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education, like the reversal of Roe v. Wade, is the culmination of a 50-year project.

It's been a long-haul project to push the US towards a white, Christian nationalist theocracy. If you haven't read Nancy MacLean's __Democracy in Chains__ it gives a good overview of early Project 2025's progenitors. It's a good, eye-opening read which is much maligned by right-wing pundits.

I’d argue Trump is the best of the Republican Party. He’s a sociopathic piece of shit, but he’s simply a grifter at heart. After Trump, it will only get more racist, more fascist, more misogynistic, more xenophobic and much, much more politically competent.

It’s refreshing to see that some people understand that this is really what’s happening. “This is all Trump’s plan!” Really? Historically speaking, have we seen a lot of incoherent, bloviating morons, as strategic planners? Trump is the clown, The Heritage Foundation is the power behind him.

They picked a former movie actor because he appealed to 3 generations of voters, and they chose to target Christians to fill their base. Why? Can you think of a group more easily led, easily scared and easily manipulated, than a white Christian? “We’re the party of (Christian) Family Values!”

That was after all, the driving motivation behind the "Pro-Life" movement. (They even said so themselves -- they had found the fight against desegregation to be a losing cause, so searched for another issue to build a "superficially non-religious" moral crusade around -- and they chose abortion.)

YES, this! I post here often that all of this began with Reagan. He was the first R who successfully--with *full media complicitness--was able to convince the lower middle class to vote against their own financial interests. He started culture wars. (Nixon was never able to harness the media!)

You don't have to be raised by evangelicals to know what's up. Republicans have unity & make small, but consistent progress to reach their goals. Democrats have endless in-fighting & push an agenda the country isn't ready for yet. Then they suffer harsh blowback which results in lost ground.

that last part of what you said is itself expressed through the lens of right-wing propaganda. why do republicans have "goals", but democrats have an "agenda"? why is the country "ready" for a rapist king instead of a president but not "ready" to have health insurance or equality? framing matters.

Because Dems have no goddamn clue how to talk to voters, while Reps could sell ice cubes to eskimos. Trump's bill says it all - every time it is mentioned on the news or written in print, they use its official name. Contrast that w/ generic-sounding "ACA". Republicans gave it the name "Obamacare".
