If you grew up in a household with an evangelical right-wing parent, as I did, you already know that the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education, like the reversal of Roe v. Wade, is the culmination of a 50-year project.

This is why Trump is neither the beginning nor the end of what ails America.
It's been a long-haul project to push the US towards a white, Christian nationalist theocracy. If you haven't read Nancy MacLean's __Democracy in Chains__ it gives a good overview of early Project 2025's progenitors. It's a good, eye-opening read which is much maligned by right-wing pundits.
I’d argue Trump is the best of the Republican Party. He’s a sociopathic piece of shit, but he’s simply a grifter at heart. After Trump, it will only get more racist, more fascist, more misogynistic, more xenophobic and much, much more politically competent.
And by best, you mean the worst of the Republican Party?
Honestly, I think he’s the best. Which is to say, it will only get worse from here. He’s an incompetent, clueless, ignorant, demented grifter. I expect we’ll see some truly evil, hateful, religious fanatically and politically effective people running that party at some point.
This is true, he doesn't give af about anything but money. What waits in the shadows is far worse.
"The banality of evil" personified?
I have my own problems with evangelicals, but the way Nixon worked with Billy Graham, William Branham, and other celebrity preachers of his day has really done lasting damage
They got played over and over until right wing politics have become central to their beliefs
I mean....It's a whole swamp! TD never planned to drain it. He just filled it with more polluted water. Actually to call it a swamp is an insult to actual swamps. Should call it a cesspool. A lake full of piss and sh*t. 💩🤬 High crimes against the people and our democracy.
Please do a thread about how you stay positive given the weight of your specialty area. If you can, we can. 🙏
He's the boil on top of a festering infection.
The ass-pimple in chief, as it were.
SCROTUS: So-Called Ruler Of The United States
Sadly, he is just their useful idiot.
Anyone who thinks getting rid of Trump is the way out of this has really missed the big picture.
Getting rid of Trump would be a good start, especially if it is accompanied by some kind of eye opening among his supporters. If they feel betrayed, they won't be much smarter than before but at least they won't make the same mistake right away. I say we should try it.
It will take years of deprivation and pain and suffering before his MAGAt base recognizes they were the target all this time.
Getting rid of Trump is ultimately up to Republican leadership though, no? And so many of them are compromised now along with him, why would they do anything?
But disappearing him would be a great start.
Yes he’s just the puppet being used….he loves the being the center of attention so he just keeps doing the shit he wants to while the rest of the Nazis work in the shadows giving him more right and taking ours away
Oh no, I didn't write it as "getting rid of Trump *alone*" and now I'm in trouble 😩
You're right though; getting rid of the orange felon is not a solution, but it is a step in the right direction.
Huge step.
Any intelligent person knew what you meant. This country is not exactly known for nuance thought peace
More fool them. Crystal clear what you meant. Trump is an umbrella term for American style Nazis. The bombastic, rage baiting, rally crying, entitled prick who has visions of turning the USAs working class into a factory processing minerals & goods while it's one big country club for the elites.
Sounds about right
Good catch. :)
It won’t completely solve the problem and there will be much more work for generations to come, but removing him from office would definitely make me feel better.
We can agree that he’s the malignant colon polyp, not the cancer. Definitely worth going under the knife tho.
Have you watched this? Apocalypse in the Tropics Netflix Documentary Release Date, Trailer, News - Netflix Tudum share.google/Vw7cqxryFoM4...
Oh I can say it! got rid of trump by any means.
This started long before Trump came into the picture! Republicans have been moving toward this for decades! The problem is they’re not religious, just using religion to get rich and control people!
It’s a start.
Quite true Trump is a symptom of this country based on colonialism slavery and a history of white supremacy, amazed we’ve lasted this long.
I feel like we could have gotten a handle on things had he not been elected, twice, and reshaped the court, but it doesn't really matter now.
The only way out is through to something new. I can dream the Dems get a motivated majority in both houses and they start fixing everything that let this happen, but I'm not optimistic.
Yeah, the Dems are never gonna do anything to fight fascism in a meaningful way. They helped this happen.
The current crop, that's mostly true, but I think we are going to see a lot of turnover in the next few elections.
It'll help tho.
I don’t think him being gone will magically fix things. I do want him to stop wasting the oxygen that I have to breathe. In other words, him croaking could have a number of different things or not. But he’d be gone and I wouldn’t my mind one bit,
But it will be a nice beginning…
So what is the way out?
Revolution.
*just
If there *is* a way out I cannot even begin to conceive of what it might be. And I'm a pretty imaginative guy.
Gotta be legal though, right? ;)
A general strike is what they fear most.
union power literally is one of our best tools rn: organized, angry, experienced, dedicated, disciplined, united activists exercising solidarity progressive public servants & policies: genuinely still a powerful option & real way forward
Indeed: the reason unions couldn't stop the 1930s rise of Nazism was because the Great Depression made it easy for German employers to find scabs, but the economic situation isn't like that now.
That’s why we won’t get out of it. We’ll schism into a minimum of two — more likely, three — nations. Red states will arrest people leaving their nation-state.
I don’t believe this. 🐈⬛
My fear…Trump is the great divider…he thrives on chaos…he loves to turn people against each other and sit back and gets a thrill seeing what he caused. Oh, wait! He did that at J6 insurrection, then pardoned them all and in gratitude, Proud Boys sued the government for $100 million
i think schism is inevitable at this point, but the human toll of it will be very, very high. the historical examples of partition should temper anyone's expectations of how it would play out.
Perhaps it will provide an opportunity to kick Amazon and Wal Mart out of at least one of them.
These will be the two countries.
It’s not that simple IMHO. The dividing line is Urban vs. Rural.
I’ve been begging blue states to come up with articles of secession. All empires throughout history collapsed, now it’s our turn.
Yah that's a best case scenario honestly. If I were yall I'd be looking to leave the whole country. America is an empire in decline and there's no coming back
I'm curious. Why do you think so many white Americans (my observation on social media) have such a pessimistic view about turning things around in/fate of this nation?
The system that has uplifted and provided privilege to white people all along is now weaponized against everyone. They’ve never experienced this kind of fear of institutions; never had to. 🫂 Compound that with the fact that 1/3 of the country plain can’t even see the very reality in front of them.
I appreciate your thoughtful answer, and I agree! Any thoughts on how to move the needle from paralyzing fear to collective action?
The pinned post on my profile. Centered Power With leadership style, which encourages temperance, empathy, and collaboration in a way that empowers the individual. You say it intuitively yourself; this will take mass collaboration. And that takes hearing each other in a way some never could before.
Good stuff!
Please let's this happen as fast as possible
Yeah this is fucked up. The reddest states aren't that way because of the majority, but because of who's kept disenfranchised.
You do know that there are huge blue dots in red states that are working like hell to turn things red to purple, purple to blue, right?? So just screw us?? Ex. = 42% of Texans voted for Harris/Walz. We would fight for you.
I am fighting too. But those states will never vote against Republicans. What is the solution? How will you win?
We’re working to change the Dem. party here in MO. We’re getting a Democrat on the ballot in races that have been uncontested. MO votes for progressive issues = we added abortion to our Constitution, added paid sick leave. Dems quit in our rural areas long ago. We’re changing that. How about you?
Didn't Republicans approve a referendum that will negate the abortion vote? I don't think voting or any normal channel of change exists anymore. We're in a full blown fascist dictatorship.
Elections are still happening all across the U.S. and Dems are winning. Yes, we have a Rep. supermajority in MO that screws us. All the more reason to run a Dem on every ballot and talk to every rural voter. We are trying all kinds of things. Stop giving up on elections. Fight for ALL of us.
How inconsiderate of you.
Why is it in inconsiderate to want to break free from the tyranny of the right?
As stated in my bio, I live in Alabama. We would be consigned to "the tyranny of the right."
Isn't that what you have now? Isn't that what we all have now? The Right gets everything they want. They have their own army already. We either have to fight a war or move on.
Alabama and Mississippi are the models for what the Republicans are trying to create. I gather that you don't know our history. Federal court orders have made Alabama tolerable.
Umm…I’m in a red state?
if it doesn't happen. they will kill you if it happens, they will kill you, but you have a place to escape to. we can't stop them, only help people escape
Bullseye 🎯 We’re all in this together.
Unironically call on them to come to Jesus. As John Fugelsang writes about, ask them which of these policies come from Jesus? Are we treating people as we want to be treated? Are we good Samaritans? Feed hungry? Etc. Call them to accountability to their own lord if they aren’t respecting civil law.
Are they not aware of the blessings the atonement delivers, that we may live in peace among all sinners and only love will make us better? All we need is love - said all the prophets, musicians, psych-scientists, healers, ancestors, literature and friends. It’s time.
I tried that. Gave a young couple a lawnmower, air conditioner, countless gallons of milk, pedialyte, rides. They gave me a miscarriage by sexually harassing and assaulting me. I assure you, MAGA is irredeemably evil. It’s like they’re not human anymore.
It’s the most poor in spirit who feel the need to damage their neighbor. I’m so sorry for your anguish. Unparalleled. You can’t be it for everyone. Churches were supposed to be mutual aid networks, not elite clubs, but the con men hawking sacrifices have infested the temples ones again. Peace to you
Sorry to hear that. I don't know how you can live alongside those people. Wouldn't you rather get out?
You gonna pay my moving expenses and find me a job and housing?
I would if I could
Why can’t you? Please don’t bully people for where they’re trapped.
Wow that’s easy to say
You live alongside 'those people' (people who voted for Trump) as well. There are Trump voters in every state.
Of course I do. But it's more about what the majority of the people in the area are will vote for and what their priorities are. I think any of my Maga neighbors would gladly move to redganistan if they had the chance.
Maybe you should put a bit more thought into what you're saying in public, to strangers.
the smug condescension toward us by those in blue states is not exactly motivating to say the least.
No condescension meant
yeah no condescension since you don't see people in red states as human
It’s a very common pattern I’ve observed over the years, so I guess it must just come naturally for y’all.
Yes, but it isn’t always as simple and straightforward as that. I have aging parents. I have roots here. There are many good friends here; we’ve rallied in the thousands against the injustices we see.
To be sure, there's no reason to make it easy for Rs
I guess my point is that it is so easy to distance ourselves from the “others”— who would live in a red state for God sake? Well, a lot of different people—people like me who often want the same things you do. Leaving isn’t always the best solution and sometimes it isn’t even an option.
I live in a pretty blue city in a red state. Things aren't so cut and dry
If it really ends up with separate nations though - then leaving would become an option because it would become untenable to stay. Protesting would no longer even be allowed.
Besides, we have the best fried chicken and blackberry cobbler in the land! 🙃😉
I’m in a blue state but the small county I live in is red. Things aren’t divided by state but different areas. We don’t have to leave our roots. Stay live and fight those a-holes.
I would agree 100% if I thought there would be a fair fight and if we still had a democracy. I just don't believe that is the case anymore.
Sorry. I messed up.
It happens. These are tense times for all of us. The only time it’s hard to forgive is when it’s done purely out of malice (like maga and terfs).
Thank you! It’s ok, and I just hoped to raise awareness—wasn’t trying to pick on you.
Ok. I just don't see any way that the country is an overtaken by right wing lunatics. I mean they have their own Army now that doesn't report to anyone and it's larger than the Marines. There us no law. There will be no elections.
Why do people always think it's so easy to pull up roots and move? No offense, but this is NOT the answer.
Someone's never read about the Yugoslav wars and horrors that came out of it.
You see a future where we can live peaceably with crazy racist fascist nut jobs? They literally want to kill 65 million immigrants.
So your solution is to balkanize a nuclear power that has nuclear weapons scattered across its territory and possibly have a series of partitions that might result in mass death on par with that of the partition of India and Pakistan?
It’s not a solution. It’s just another problem we will be forced into if this goes on too long. The SCROTUS puts state rights above God and the states won’t watch this prick disappear their people forever.
I agree. Something's got to give and it's going to be explosive when it does.
I don't have any solutions. But if we no longer have a democracy what is your solution
I don't know man. I honestly don't know. I don't have any solutions either. I just think balkanization isn't the way.
Destruction of free speech and other rights for corporations. Also revoke tax exempt status for church violators.
You just described Dem leadership for the past 40 years.
Yes. MAGA is a direct descendent of John Birchers. More like a 60/70 year movement. But, Trump is a pied piper for sociopath low frequency voters. MAGA won't go away, but I like the chances in national matchups vs JD Vance, DeSantis et al. It won't fix the damage short term, but it's a step back.
And the John Birch Society was how Daddy Koch used phony anti-communism to divert people's attention from how he'd made millions from Stalin's gulags.
"A good start."
Maybe, but as horrible as trump is, the guy next up isn't going to be as undisciplined as trump and will not make as many stupid mistakes as trump does.
Fascists are never in it to actually govern, they all make stupid mistakes. That's why they always need scapegoats. Like we're being distracted from the rising death toll in TX by the attack on the ICE facility and other increasingly (but justified) violent acts of resistance.
It IS, however, the most important step. Nobody should fool themselves otherwise. The battle against MAGA will go on after Trump, but it'll be *way* easier without him and the unique power he holds.
Yes - Trump is merely the pustule on the deep seated malignancy that has embedded itself (bit by steady bit) in the heart and soul of America over decades. It will take more than lancing the boil to destroy the infection and there is no guarantee that the patient will survive the needed procedure.
bsky.app/profile/cats...
We were founded on hate, racism, the patriarchy, ableism, misogyny, greed, and apathy. We've been pretty damn good at hiding parts of this list from time to time, but it was still always there, under the surface, waiting for the right moment to emerge. Well, they got it.
The only people we hid those things from are ourselves.
I agree. I'm doing the best I can to help my daughter educate her children about the accurate history of this country, ugliness and all. We need to change the narrative so our kids/grandkids know the truth.
That's the most terrifying thought to me.
He’s not even evangelical.
He's popular with evangelical voters because he validates their worldview of racism, cruelty, and greed.
Oh I know. Sorry, my point is that he’s not even intimately familiar with the evangelical agenda. It didn’t start with him and certainly won’t end.
Talibangelicals
This is really tastelessly stupid. You think the Taliban is the pinnacle of human depravity? If you hate Muslims so much, you probably ARE an Evangelical.
I dont hate Muslims and they are not the same as the taliban. However, both the taliban and the evangelicals are religious extremist groups that hate each other without realizing they are one in the same. Study it bruh. You might learn something and not say shit out of ignorance. Happy learning.
Happy learning? I did my Master’s Thesis on medieval Islamic philosophy. Under the Taliban, abortion was legal, and immigrants didn’t get put in concentration camps. There are much, much worse things about the Evangelical movement than a vague and passing similarity to the Taliban.
Ah yes, the classic ‘Taliban had one semi-progressive policy once, so they’re not that bad’ argument. Right before banning women from school and stoning folks. But sure, tell us more about how they're less problematic than evangelicals while we call the Ethics Department. Bold strategy!
Is this what you wanted? To argue about the Taliban? Maybe take a look around - there are more important things to argue about. I grew up with Evangelicals; they are destroying this country. And all anybody can seem to say is “they’re kinda like Afghani theocrats.” This is not a time for dumb puns.
I grew up Pentecostal. I know for a fact that they are destroying this country. I'm not arguing. I'm stating that religious extremism in any form is all the same and unacceptable. FULL STOP. It's harmful to the true piety of the religions they hijack and kamikaze into an unwitting populace.
Thank goodness we have a white savior like you to defend the honor of the taliban 🫡
Why do you claim expertise on the Taliban policies and views because of a relatively non-specialist diploma on a medieval theme, when the Taliban exist only since the 80s? Also when your subject of study was centered on an area what? 3000km away from it? In another cultural area?
That is all very akin to "I know all about the Franco dictatorship in Spain, obviously: I've studied the French Renaissance."
yep. honestly: sorry
like I was genuinely both obnoxiously persnickety in this thread AND ALSO haughty about my dEgReE (peak asshole behavior) in a frankly silly way, as you point out. genuinely, I apologize to all involved here, and hope your day improves
Cultural context. It’s easier to see when someone ELSE is batshit insane. You rarely understand your own batshittery as being batshit.
It's because of the sheer amount we've been lied to, from birth onward.
The root of our problems goes back to the early abandonment of Reconstruction.
Just wait until they finally convince Dems a Constitutional Convention is a good idea. It'll be over, they've game planned for 50+ years and already have what they need at the state level.
I’m GenX. I’ll be dead before the kids figure out how to reverse this shit, and that’s not even talking about if anything can reverse the damage to our global economic standing. Hahahaha, I’ll probably die a pauper, too! Thanks, Trump.
GenX here too and I feel the same way. Bloody hell!!!!
And that's why I've been anti religion for the vast majority of my adult life. Since the Bush era I realized they will stop at nothing to destroy the country and pretend it's a "Christian nation".
After Grok went Nazi my X timeline filled with Nazis. It’s not a small group of outsiders anymore. It helped me see we are some ways into the 4th Reich now, not because of DJT, but because of Project 2025. All the organizations & people working towards this over decades, that’s the Reich
Arguably, Reagan was the beginning. We haven't seen the end yet, although Orwell, Atwood and others have alluded to it.
Reagan was the beginning. Billy Graham warned him not to cozy up to the moral majority. Big mistake. Let them in, they’ll take a mile, which they have. Now turned into Christian Nationalists. Trump is the end. The movement dies with him. There’s no one who can take it on.
Reagan was a real POS. Under him everything went downhill, trickle down robbed the middle class, unions were busted, prison population exploded, guns, drugs, the rise of the oligarchs. And Graham thought he needed to warn Reagan about Falwell? Trump is the demon bastard child of Reagan.
100% Matt. I completely agree with you.
Nixon started courting evangelicals. His "law and order" policy was the precursor to the war on drugs, which was really just a war on black people and poor people. Really it goes back to the Civil War tho. Racists never got over losing.
I love how you can legitimately keep tracing the origins of American racism back and back ever further. How about this: I can argue that it came over on the Mayflower. And it's not hard to find the roots of religious and ethnographic bigotry a century before that ship sailed from Europe.
The entire Republican Party & conservative movement is the problem and always has been. It must be destroyed in order for this country to move forward.
There are so many brainwashed people out there (maga), losing brain cells with every new covid variant, and carrying guns. And then there’s ICE, too. We’re really in trouble now.
You speak a profound sad-but-truth.
Correct. White supremacy (and all the things connected to it) should've been the starting point for addressing America's "ailments." But too few are willing to acknowledge its existence, much less deal with it head-on. So here we are...
But since when do white people police white people?Therein lies the problem! Too many have always been ok benefiting the white supremacy infrastructure and thus are quiet! How long had we been told white supremacist groups were the greatest threat of terrorism, yet nothing was done!
This!!!
Yes! I think we're arguing the same point: the absence of accountability and the danger therein.
Oh that wasn’t argumentative.. it was amplification..
Lol! Got it!✊🏾
www.politico.com/news/magazin...
Yep. They’ve wanted it gone since its inception. Better they segregate & deny education to those that their little Jimmy shouldn’t have to be educated around.
It is also the culmination of 50 years of liberals saying, “yes, there’s a few right-wing extremists, trying to interfere with everyone’s right to vote, but they are a minority, and present no danger. The systems have guardrails, and are safe. The checks and balances will protect us.”
Exhibit A: bsky.app/profile/poco...
Or if you've been paying attention.
Yes - I was in a bible study in the early 80’s that linked every ill in America to removing prayer from schools. The only religion they acknowledged was fundamentalist *christianity.* Everything was about establishing a national theocracy, no matter how long it took. Glad I escaped them.
Same here, but it was in the early-mid 70s. It took me a bit longer to escape, but I'm here.
Religious kids can pray in private. I wasn’t particularly religious, but never felt constrained if I felt the need. And I did Miami and Seattle public schools. I felt more constrained at the religion associated colleges I went to.
And guess what? We never even prayed in public school. Ask your grandparents and great grandparents.
That's KKKristianity
And all those Christians need quotations around them. They are Christian by label only, NOT by practice
I've heard so many pastors talk about the evils of public school. I never hear them talk about how their kids could be the light they want to see in the world.
A re-enactment of ‘Inherit the Wind’.
Evangelicals want to home school everyone so the boys only learn enough for physical labor jobs and girls only know how to cook and clean for the man whilst caring for 12 children - exactly like the lives of my great grandparents and grandparents.
Those people do not teach "facts". They teach "beliefs". Most of which have no basis in fact.
Maybe we need to deport all the Republicans instead of our hardworking labor and field workers?
Yes, it was always the plan
Yea sure wish people had listened to us sooner- like 20 30- even 10 years ago- but no you get accused of being biased and all sorts of shit by people who in the same breath will turn around and call the perps fake Christians while sending them love gifts & supporting their candidates
😢
Yep! Life for the rest of us was better when those psychos thought government wasn't for them and they just fcked off in their weird as culty church communities. Reagan's advisors will burn in hell for this.
Yep. They’re all in on that heaven thing…it’s a destructive and defeatist mind set based in ignorance and fear. There beliefs are terrible but we have been cowed into being to tolerant to the point that have wrecked our Republic. We never pushed back when they went to war on Roe.
I couldn't help feeling at the time (Roe) that it was a boundary test. And now i see that it's one that we failed miserably. We should've been in the streets.
What a disaster for our country. I guess education is "poison" for the evangelicals. BTW, what Bible do they read anyway? Do they know that all of that is political fodder written for political reasons hundreds of years ago?
KJV, of course.
Thanks.
They don't read; they just make it up as they go along and pretend that it's in the book their illiterate followers can't read anyway.
Fundantalism, as we know it here, was popularized by titans in the oil industry. It's weird, the connection between extraction industries, racism, and a perverted understanding of the book of Revelation.
That’s interesting, I’ve never heard that connection. Is there anything good to read on it?
Shadow Network is a good book on the subject
Thx!!
Fire Weather by @johnvaillant.bsky.social
Ok thx too!
My sympathies. I have family members like that. However, my parents encouraged me to read everything I could get my hands on and to remain open-minded on the big issues in life - the best gift they ever gave me.
If there’s one thing evangelicals love, it’s ignorance.
its means they can keep on beating their children while pretending theyre not enjoying it
💯
Frightening. Eliminate science and religion will reign - until the next scientist comes along
It’s refreshing to see that some people understand that this is really what’s happening. “This is all Trump’s plan!” Really? Historically speaking, have we seen a lot of incoherent, bloviating morons, as strategic planners? Trump is the clown, The Heritage Foundation is the power behind him.
They picked a former movie actor because he appealed to 3 generations of voters, and they chose to target Christians to fill their base. Why? Can you think of a group more easily led, easily scared and easily manipulated, than a white Christian? “We’re the party of (Christian) Family Values!”
While every leader, from their mega churches, to their local sheriffs and every politician in between, showed you nothing but the opposite of those values. They wallowed in their hypocrisy, (while robbing us blind) like pigs in their own shit, and the American Christian voter, cheered them for it.
When you get past Catholics and Lutherans and the more Common named ones you end up in fringe religion with people who are already conditioned. They start teaching children that baby girls with u covered legs can be sexualized! Look at Spkr Johnson having a porn pact with a teenager??? Not normal
You’re not wrong. But in the 80’s and 90’s you might run into a Born Again Christian, now the vast majority are evangelicals who think they’re being persecuted because of their beliefs. And those aren’t the fringe churches…
Yes all this makes them an easy target. They already have the victim syndrome.
I grew up with a parent who saw what Reagan did to the California school system when he was Governor as retribution to the students protesters of the period. Hitler and the Nazis also attacked academia. So did Stalin. Authoritarianism always does the same thing.
Yes, indeed.
they do not want their children brainwashed with science.
75 year project….total John Birch Soc stuff from the late 50’s/early 60s SoCal.
Agree. I was in Wisconsin in '50's. John Birchers there in droves.
Eastern Washington and Idaho. I Lernt real good about the Rothchilds and Commies and the Jewish cabals that ate children. Good times.
Yea, and the goal of hundreds of other groups as well. 🤔
Yes, a Heritage Foundation project!
I remember a friend of mine’s Republican father telling me around 1990 that the Department of Education should be abolished.
👍👍👍
I grew up a Southern Baptist, and I did not grow up in that household. My church back in the 60's had women deacons. I do not recognize what the Church has become. My mother was a teacher and I know she would never be for this because we've always been Democrats.
a wet dream for the bible thumpers...
Dumbing down of America
When right wingers don't get the GOP politicians they want, they keep voting GOP and pushing hard for 50 years, until they own the GOP. They've been focused since 1972. Like everyone, they whine, but they showed up every 2 years, even when they knew the GOP mocked them behind closed doors.
Republicans will always come together over the two tenets of the Republican agenda - 1. Corporate welfare and tax cuts for the rich. 2. Racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia and culture wars for everyone else. And Republican politicians always deliver for their voters.
Focused indeed - they seem to have been gunning for revenge on Americans ever since McCarthy was called out for having “no shame, at long last.”
Agree
Absolutely! They want God (especially the Bible) in all classrooms even though there are children from all religions and those with no religious belief system in our classrooms! Separation of church and State!!!
That's true. This shit all started under Reagan and they have been going at it with the same force all that time.
I hope this is a wake up call for the many people still walking around thinking nothing going on will affect them.
Seven mountains mandate / pillars… look up Peter Wagner. It’s intense
More of the Reagan/McConnell legacy.
A MAGAt talking point for dismantling the Department of Education is that test scores have gotten worse over the years. Incorrect. Other than the pandemic, the national average test scores for reading and math have steadily increased since the 1970s. Source: nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/di...
My father, a very liberal Presbyterian minister told me in 1980's that Evangelical Christians would be the downfall of America, if not the world
100% The Repuklicants have to keep people dumb and full of hate and fear to control them. SCROTUM COURT can go To hell and fuq off
Or maybe come from the South and have a family of MAGA you haven’t spoken to in 9+ years. The things is, they’d already mostly done this in red states by always refusing federal money with strings attached. Or hell, just stealing the money, like Brett Favre did in Mississippi.
You read my mind! Still live here though. My family are unicorns around here politically and trust me, I’ve had my hair on fire for years about republican “policies”, but it’s impossible to compete with churches, they’re the center of society here, tbh
Interesting reading on the real rise of the religious right as a political force. All part of the right wing’s decades-long plan to control America.
ugh just seeing a picture of thst building brings up so much childhood trauma from being forced to attend their pre-k, kimdergarten, and elementary schools
I never went there, but I was surrounded by people who did and who supported their mission 100%. I feel your pain.
Yup. The school only changes for $ reasons. But soon they'll be able to go back to their old ways and retain their tax exempt status
I never thought about it before, but yes, ending segregation and discrimination in education was the reason the Dept. of Ed was founded and why racists have been so dogged in their efforts to destroy it.
their answer to busing and wanting segregation again
YEP, this was a long game
And a highly funded project at that.

Reagan was the face of fascism. His veto of the fairness doctrine (phase 1 of CNP)led to RW media like Fox & Clear Channel used as propaganda tools, building blocks of fascism.Bannon was a great admirer & adopted RR campaign slogan,Let's MAGA.RR busted unions, had greatest EPA scandal(Anne Gorsuch's
slushfund), began the practice of hiring foxes in charge of chicken coops, i.e.,putting anti-labor people on NLRB,gave 2 tax cuts to the rich & developed his trickle-down economy. FWIW Anne Gorsuch was Justice Gorsuch's mother.
yeah people acting like this started with Trump at annoying af.
White people enjoyed slavery too much. They got off on it. No other country fought a Civil War to keep slaves once they didn't need them anymore, but the US did. White people identify themselves as not-"insert". It's so deep and cancerous, you've turned on each other again. You're ruined.
It IS the US despicable Original Sin - enslaving humans.
Where do I learn more about this? Do you have any book recommendations?
I've heard it all my life. It's the fulfillment of a Dream and they're not done.
This is right on. Been a slow-motion disaster. Read "Democracy in Chains" if you haven't already. Still so many folks who think they won't be next.
.......... Thursday night Choir practice, Friday night Catacism study, Sunday two church services and Sunday school......... Dad abandons his family of 6 kids, church abandons Mum and us kids. My Grandfather was a founder of our church. Andrea? Whatever could you mean? (sarcasm)
I grew up in a progressive, liberal household. Daughter of a teacher/coach and so this breaks my heart as much as RvW
Controlling education is the key to controlling USA in all aspects !!
Every single bit of 50 years.
Yep. Charter schools are a part of that. They want the federal government funding religious education.
😡😡😡
Yep. This and abortion banning is like an evangelical parent’s wet dream
I believe it went even further back than 50 yrs. Francis Schaeffer spoke quite a bit on the subject.
Yep. I'm sure some people think that coughing up their uterus is a big win.
Its shameful that the Supreme Court moved this forward. Absolutely disgusting.
I grew up in a Catholic household. Church on Sunday, first Communion, confirmation, etc. I learned: Jesus is everywhere. A Church does not have to be a building. Churches survive on donations/money. Now that the donations are drying up they want to force people to pay thru our taxes.
podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m...
Yep
ALEC, Heartland Int, Heritage Foundation and more are all giddy
How can they not see that their own descendants will become ignorant tools..??!
I think that is part of the appeal, but they think that their kids will be the exceptional ones.
True enough, the "make everyone (except me!) work more, and harder!" crowd 🙄
The future they are actively making is terrible for everyone. bsky.app/profile/davi...
And that is super sad
USA is now the type of failed state USA likes to invade.
If the USA saw what the USA is doing to the USA, they'd "liberate" them, but only if they have oil.
Which they do.

Yeah but only possible with a scotus willing to turn a blind eye to lawlessness
Don't fret, yet. We, the people, will rebuild whatever Trump destroys It won't even take 2 years to rebuild our federal structure. But, we have to wait another year or so and get Dems back in control of our nation. Rebuilding will even improve some of these departments because of loopholes..
True.

A CALL TO ACTION for AMERICAN EDUCATORS: Stop asking students to recite the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ until phrases like ‘liberty and justice for all’ contain even the merest hint of aspirational truth. Refuse to participate in brainwashing propaganda. Refuse to teach children to live lies.
Sounds good to me! Teach students to think critically and QUESTION. Truth comes from UNDERSTANDING, not from memorizing!
A CALL TO ACTION for AMERICAN EDUCATORS: Stop asking students to recite the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ until phrases like ‘liberty and justice for all’ include even the merest hint of aspirational truth. Refuse to participate in brainwashing propaganda. Refuse to teach children to live lies.
I grew up with 2, both teachers. However, they also were children of the depression and WW2 and took a longer view of history. I think both would be horrified by this—my mom taught what was referred to as “special needs”. She had seen what can happen when some kids are ignored and warehoused.
If you were aware of politics over the years since Reagan, you would also know this.
As is the dismantling of NPR-CPB. Given the reiterative looping of AI, any advancement of the US (other than transactional for the few) will be truncated - at best = welcome to the foundational era of a feudal technocratic serfdom.
I always heard that growing up but never believed it would happen. I thought people were smarter than that. Our country is going to fall behind in everything
Not that it matters at the end of the day, but with the House and Senate in lockstep, I scratch my head as to why do it in the lawless, unconstitutional way? Repeal the act, shutdown the department. As is, the Supreme Court has debased itself, and revealed itself as a sham -part of the scam Weird
So their nepo babies can slide into place unobstructed while maintaining the veneer of a functional system. Even cheaters want to pretend they earned what they stole.
Yes. It's been their mission for all these decades
PL 94-142. I want to weep.
Why?
Why did they target the dept of education?
Too many non White people getting an education.
Is that it? Most ppl getting an education in the US are still white. Is any number of educated Black, Brown, Indigenous, or Asian folk too many?
Yup. Education = jobs = competition. They want slave and menial labor.
They want children to learn what they think and believe what they teach and become a society that is exactly like them.
Holy cats!
🤯
You didn’t need to grow up in the type of household you describe to understand this. You just needed to pay attention and see thru the red, white and blue disguise. Too many bought the America is the greatest bs and now it is way too late. Behold the power of whitewashed, Eurocentric education.
While the whole western world moved in from religion the USA galloped towards it and all for what? To become the very opposite of what was allegedly said in Palestine 2000 years ago, love thy neighbor as thyself? That particular Palestinian would be horrified.
If Jesus were one person rather than a composite of several itinerant rabbis alive during that time (and there is no proof of either), he would be incensed. Appalled. Disgusted. Furious. These people worship the genocidal deity of the Old Testament, not the Jesus of the New Testament.
absolutely and so so sad😞
They’ve advertised well for 50 years so anyone paying the slightest attention understood their evil intentions. Their souls will pay and they never level up. Caught in the place they all refer to as purgatory and don’t realize it. Thats eternal suffering.
I luckily didn’t have that parent but I remember they started to trying to destroy education in the last 70s, early 80s. De-segregation was the trigger for the non-rich, how they managed to amass a larger group of people to assist their wicked goals.
That was after all, the driving motivation behind the "Pro-Life" movement. (They even said so themselves -- they had found the fight against desegregation to be a losing cause, so searched for another issue to build a "superficially non-religious" moral crusade around -- and they chose abortion.)
The segregationists are still fighting Brown v. Board (1954)
Also true if you've bothered to read a handful of articles about the malignant Christian right.
I firmly believe we started down this road way back in 1980 when somehow religious nuts like my mother were convinced that a divorced not very religious Reagan was somehow more "Christian" than a Baptist Sunday school teacher married to and never accused of being unfaithful to the love of his life.
It began with Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority. Big mad cause their school couldn't continue to get federal monies AND segregate. Reagan was just one of their first products. I wish I could remember the name of the documentary. It might have been Bad Faith.
YES, this! I post here often that all of this began with Reagan. He was the first R who successfully--with *full media complicitness--was able to convince the lower middle class to vote against their own financial interests. He started culture wars. (Nixon was never able to harness the media!)
Reagan was much like Trump -- a convenient figurehead/stalking-horse for loose coalition* of religious fundamentalist zealots, ideologues, and very wealthy interests who felt they deserve to have anything they want. * And of course, a non-trivial number had/have a foot in both camps.
Newt Gingrich ushered in the age of vilifying Democrats. Mid 90s
need to present a reformed gop after Nixon corresponded with the growth & acceptance of then ‘reborn christians’, arrival of televangelist ministers profiting off the spread & growth of cable tv, gop partnered with evangelicals to ‘correct’ a world ruined by JFK & LBJ-and they used abortion to link
As an evangelical born in 1960, I disagree. It started in the 50s with desegregation, which cut federal funding to schools who didn't integrate -- including whites-only "religious" schools and colleges. I remember prayer meetings in the early 70s and what we told God we wanted. This is it.
The reason was and is desegregation.
In wake of Nixon’s failure even more (how?) venal corrupt crew festered. Letting Nixon off was quickly followed by North & Poindexter. Dems lost will after Watergate while corruption just got worse from arms for hostages and contras to S&L crisis. Just a growing tire fire Dems stopped fighting
Amen.
I think was the turning point in pretending that they actually cared about morality. They wanted Nixon impeached because of his bad language in his tapes, not because of what he did. Reagan showed they only cared about power, not morality. They've only proved that over and over.
That right there was the entire purpose of establishing Televangelism as a concept.
Isn’t that when they tried to blame all the problems of the country on “unwed mothers” (or was that Bush snr). Was always astounded by that one! FFS what about the absent fathers!!
The right wing doesn’t need much gossamer thin cover for the abject christofascism that the really want.
The Reagan admin is where it all began.
Reagan was a poseur. He spoke words to get elected & mostly reneged on them. His inept handling of undocumented / illegals set this in motion. It was going to swell a 2nd & 3rd time because of it.
It goes all the way back to Brown v Topeka. Conservatives hate the idea of integrated schools so much they developed the plan to dismantle public schools and created private segregation academies funded with public money.
The dire consequences of this dismantling won’t take 50 years. It’s happening now. This is why we must have separation of Church and State.
@luthenraeloh.bsky.social
I fear we have been caught sleeping. It's time we wake up and start to push back.
My niece is an evangelical. I mean, full on tambourine.
Yup
How much of this can be recovered in the inevitable backlash against MAGAism is the question I probably wont be round that long enough to find out, In short, the answer is probably decades if ever.
Good question. And since I’m north of 70, I doubt I’ll be around long enough too.
Yep you me, same boat. It makes me sad that every good thing I saw America do over the past 70 years was ripped away in such a short period of time.
Ditto. I feel much sorrow about it. It’s similar to the grieving process.
😓😪
They chipped away with small stuff and few people noticed.
We tried to tell politicians from both parties that supported Roe, do not let the Christian freaks turn Roe in a discussion about abortion. They did.
Facts
50 year project of ignorance. Make America Ignorant Again should be there slogan
long before that. long before.
Yeah, my family was Assembly of God/4 Square Gospel and got all the newsletters. Of course I was home schooled (sometimes.) I shouldn't find all this as shocking as I do. Coming out of the church took a long time and was like waking up from a nightmare. Now it feels like I never really woke up.
We can dissolve DHS now when we get back in office. It has failed to prevent a single American death.
We should have dissolved it years ago!
I know as an ex-Mormon.
It’s all project 2025.
If they think they can bring on their apocalypse through ethnic cleansing Israel, why can't they leave the rest of us alone to our heathen science and math in the meantime?
you cant be too smart or youll be able to see that all the bullshit they have been feeding you is delusional
If they are going to eliminate the federal department of education, I need part of my tax money back because the state is going to have to make up the difference
With a bonus side of deleting info at the IRS they don't want us to know about.
"we can finally deny the devil from entering the classroom" -them, referencing teaching evolution
What is the main reason they hate it so much?
It’s right there in the name.
It allows everyone to receive a decent education, and that includes black and brown people, women, and poor people.
Got it. Thanks
Broadly, a more educated population means ppl will no longer be satisfied with their station. Republicans have no use for democracy, they want to rule like kings. Education is a way to improve oneself, find a better job. You also have the critical thinking skills not to fall for con-men.
They want private schools for rich kids and Bible schools for everyone else.
Also, forcing people to homeschool means another cost for households, and even less freedom for women, upon whom the bulk of homeschooling duties will fall. Plus they can continue to repeal child labour laws.
It's the institution that prevents them from kicking out Black students, the LGBTQ+, women, and children with special needs out of public schools.
Gotcha. Thanks
Happy Scopes Week, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Scopes Trial in Dayton, TN. If you thought supernaturalist nutjobs (aka religionists) gave up on teaching creation to children, you were sorely mistaken. Religion was humiliated 100 years ago & Science powered the American 20th Century.
Less than 10% of the world was literate during the Dark Ages, when it was so much easier for the Church to control the masses These are the Dark Ages and we're so happy, happy to be here today.
Not all of them. Some, perhaps even most, but not all view the world as such, nor have a political agenda like that.
Now they will find out that putting prayer back in schools won’t make a damn difference.
But he used an auto pen!! (Sarcasm)
Planned & Plotted for years, by the Deep State/ GOP…Heritage Foundation- Religious Evil Extremists, who r Running Our Country Amuck. Congress seems paralyzed?
Liberals have been bickering over nonsense that whole time, squandering their occasional victories
Education is the enemy of childish religions.
They've already built their infrastructure and installed multiple loyalists at the highest levels. This is terrifying. www.npr.org/podcasts/510...
It really is!! I remember the beginnings of this bullshit! Never dreamed it would actually find purchase and grow so big yet so relatively quietly until about 15 years ago. Then in what I liken as a series smaller explosions, it exploded to the front and center!
Hopefully the skies will darken and then a new day will dawn
lol Many years ago I wrote something called 'The Rupture Of The Rapture'. It was lost and I thought it was destroyed along with other things of mine, but I found a copy a few days ago. I'll have to type it all up again, but I hope to have that to post for people before too long. 👍
The white trash belt.
Statistical maps showing the differences between Bible Belt states and the other states:
These evangelicals are a major part of the problem. They are driven by misinformation and distortion of religious teachings and the Bible. They are mostly not genuinely religious ignoring the teachings of Jesus to make them fit their twisted ideology.
It’s just about power. My God is bigger, and more powerful than yours—so I’m better than you! Bonus, mine is a forgiving God, so I can be evil, if I want, and get forgiveness! Best of both worlds! Not exactly how that was supposed to work, though!
Dismantling the DoE will inevitably result in a massive waste of US intellectual capital, further entrench social disadvantage & lower productivity. That seems very inconsistent with making American great. I'm only an ignorant Australian but I do know that all human advances begin with education.
it will also have gangs of bored teenagers roaming the streets with nothing to do... you can guess that will lead to
Exactly, and they will so easily be seduced & exploited by those who make their money in nefarious ways
yeah so much for protecting children
Correct. They believe in protecting a fetus, but once they're born, they're on their own.
prolife ends at birth
Absolutely. Such hypocrisy.
Tsk tsk! By your comments alone, you would be deemed “woke” by all those undereducated Americans and thereby suspect of (*gasp*) intellect!! Whenever you hear someone squawk about “war on religion!” it’s really been a war on education all along.
You got me, I'm an Australian with a university education who educated disadvantaged teenagers for over 20 years. That taught me that education is the only pathway out of poverty. So yes, I'm woke as hell. A govt that chooses to defund education is planning to keep some kids poor & ignorant.
Bingo!
I'm shocked! Well, not that shocked, but it's even worse than my cynical self thought.
I'm not. The writing was on the wall. White America grew complacent, ignoring the warnings of Black people, for we understood the nature of the beast.
It was sarcasm... I've always thought Americans were thick.
That gets me a few blocks a week from people I don't really disagree. I thought about using tags to mark that content 😁
Reddit used to use the old /s which is useful, but yours is more technical, which I love!
I sincerely doubt the last one. Maybe they forgot the "in" before the "sufficient". If 4 in 5 can do that, why can 40% not read their children a story? And what the fuck kind of parents don't work on improving that? Some people have dyslexia, but not as many. The Clown is surely below 3rd grade.
🥺🤬🥺🤬🥺🤬
Why do the rich not realize that every success they have is because someone like me believes that I will have what they have some day? If you take that away, you just get to be smart for a generations and then you get to wade thru the shit-covered streets with us.
My parents were the son of a Union worker and the daughter of Russian Jew immigrants, yet both renounced their roots to become Birchers. Little wonder our grandparents raised us.
Humans sure make their world complicated! Meanwhile, we raccoons will keep an eye on those shiny coins and maybe scavenge some good fortune from the chaos. Optimism paws first!
Thank you for social media, history channel, movies, and grandparents. Kids no longer need a classroom to learn real history. They will learn the truth in spite of Trump.
You don't have to be raised by evangelicals to know what's up. Republicans have unity & make small, but consistent progress to reach their goals. Democrats have endless in-fighting & push an agenda the country isn't ready for yet. Then they suffer harsh blowback which results in lost ground.
Democrats do not push any such agenda They push GOP lite Their donors do not wish for the betterment of the voters
that last part of what you said is itself expressed through the lens of right-wing propaganda. why do republicans have "goals", but democrats have an "agenda"? why is the country "ready" for a rapist king instead of a president but not "ready" to have health insurance or equality? framing matters.
Because Dems have no goddamn clue how to talk to voters, while Reps could sell ice cubes to eskimos. Trump's bill says it all - every time it is mentioned on the news or written in print, they use its official name. Contrast that w/ generic-sounding "ACA". Republicans gave it the name "Obamacare".
i agree up to a point, but it also helps that republicans have both richer and dumber people on their side, so even if their message is moronic, it gets spread and repeated until it seems true
Keep calling your opponent "dumb" & wonder why Democrats only lose demographics and not gain any. That elitist bullshit has cost Team Blue countless elections over the years. And if they are so dumb, then surely the brainiacs on the Left could find a way to change those feeble minds!1!!
i'm not running for office. republicans win by whipping up the lowest instincts of fearful fucking imbeciles. shitheads. morons. cretins. dipshits. fuckwits. people who laugh and clap at cruelty, flag-waving, and being openly lied to. there are a lot of them out there. i don't have a solution.
Not only do you not have a solution, but you're also part of the problem. Dems will never expand their Base by denigrating people. Pushing away folks due to arrogance is how we got into this mess. I'll reiterate, if these people were sooo stupid, it should be trivial to make them switch parties.
lol let's talk denigration. republicans denigrate people all the time. non-white people. it works great! because of the dumbness and fear. dumb and scared people love being racist! no, i do not have a solution to this. seems like your solution is to be more polite to the racists. i do not agree!
You're missing the forest for the trees. GOP has its base because they have a clear & consistent (sooo important) message for literally DECADES now. Dems will change their message 1/2 way through the goddamn week. And let's drop this nonsense that Dems don't also use fear mongering. That's horseshit
feel like we're vaguely on same side so i'll stop here. i'd just like to point out (as in my first response to you) i think you've (consciously or not) bought into bad-faith republican framing in your ideas about democrats. you're using their pieces and their board to frame your ideas. take care!
there should be twenty legitimate political parties to choose from in the US. thirty. fifty. but the fact that it's a binary choice between science, universities, and education and... openly destroying those things does not mean i need to be MORE POLITE to dim-witted republicans. they chose, not me.
the fact that they're too dumb to realize they're being lied to, too dumb to feel shame at bringing about obvious evil results, and too dumb to survive the wound to their fearful little egos of being called dumb is a big problem, but it does not change the fact that they're dumb. it proves they are.
trying to bring in "elitism" is a red flag. useless. disingenuous. only mentioned by insecure or malicious people. it's absurdly transparent propaganda that tries to use being a civilized human being and not a lizard-brained pawn as an insult. enraging that people like you fall for it.
Well said!
The right has a very well oiled and financed messaging machine which stays on message, using fear as a motivator. The left can’t seem to build the same momentum, even with topics that have an undercurrent of catastrophe, like global warming.
could have that if one of the 2 major parties in the US was actually consistently left-ish rather than steadily becoming a watered down conservative party
I will agree that the right stays united on the end game (white supremacy imo) and will compromise a lot to get there. The left is mired with in fighting and turns on each other bc we are fighting against it all.
THAT is what Mitch McConnell still idiotically considers his (cough) legacy -- his dirty deeds to create the SCOTUS to overturn both landmarks to turn the democracy my ancestors created into a dictatorship masquerading as Christian theocracy.
Look up Terrel Bell, the second secretary of the DOE. He fought Reagan to not make cuts to the department. This has been going on for almost 50 years. It’s sick.
And now that they can preach politics from the pulpit, they're a rich man's dream. We will become a nation of Olygarchs and the poor.
For anyone who doesn't understand the implications of eliminating the Dept of Ed, it's primary purpose was to ensure that minorities & women had equal access to education. It was established following the Brown vs Kansas board of education ruling. White evangelicals don't like educated black slaves
A MAGAt talking point for dismantling the Department of Education is that test scores have gotten worse over the years. Incorrect. Other than the pandemic, the national average test scores for reading and math have steadily increased since the 1970s. Source: nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/di...
I've noticed they focus on one off events, incidents they can point to that suggest the dept of Ed isn't working, like the reason behind Bush's No Child Left Behind program.
Yes, generally their appeal is emotional, not factual.
Outrage not informed
Getting rid of Trump won't save us, we need to break the power of right-wing white evangelicals completely. Easier said than done
They need to be treated as any other religious extremist like Isis, boko haram etc and stood against a wall and second amendment’d
Give them due process as required, then, long drop, short stop
The same due process they’ve decided is appropriate for ice abductees I hope…. :)
The Christotaliban definitely are in control right now.
I’m afraid we just have to live through the end of America and see what comes next at this point. The inauguration was a Humpty Dumpty moment.
I'm afraid you're right. America as a nation has proven it doesn't deserve to exist under current frameworks. As someone sworn to defend the Constitution, it saddens me to have to say that, but, the more and more fascism takes hold in this country and the response ranges from apathy to delight...
Yep. Germany had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, through DeNazification after the war, and had their noses collectively rubbed in what they had done for MANY years afterward. (If the Winners had done that after the American War Over Chattel Slavery, we maybe wouldn’t be here. 🤷🏼♀️)
Lincoln didn't want it that way, but what Johnson ended up doing made the situation worse.
I do wish American history were taught with just a tad bit more honesty, but it’s too late to get all those horses back in the barn
American history needed to be taught with way more honesty than anything we've seen to date. In highschool I had brief lessons on America during slavery & reconstruction, such that I didn't understand what carpet baggers were until after college. Most of what we were taught was 20th century America
I had the opposite. As a Gen X are in the Midwest, they were heavy on colonial and revolutionary history, a little bit about the Civil War, and pretty much stopped after reconstruction. 20th C America, Empire of Perpetual War, didn’t even hit the radar. (we had a lot of Vietnam vet teachers)
That might be why. I too am Gen X, and beyond the revolutionary period, nothing was touched until the 20th century. Colonial times were kind of skipped over as were the indigenous wars of the late 19th century and then we were talking about WW1 and 2.
That being said, I certainly don't disagree with you about the chilling implications of its abolishment. Education will once again be the exclusive domain of wealthy white males, particularly Evangelicals and Tech Bros.3/
That's their goal: White men to lead, white women to breed, blacks to slave, all else in graves
So, DoE creation was not a direct reaction to Brown v. Board at the time of the ruling. Equal educational access is certainly an important function of the department, but it has others as well, such as educational funding (grants, loans) and data collection.2/
Brown vs the Board had a significant impact on what would become the Dept of Ed, the latter having been ruled on in 54, one year after the founding of the dept of Ed. What do you think the Ed funding was based on? You hear all this talk about title IX, what do you think title IX relates to?
Carter created the Department of Education in 1979. Brown vs. Board of Education decision was issued in 1954 and further clarified by Brown II in 1955. Until 1979, most educational discrimination issues were handled by DOJ Civil Rights division.1/
Carter separated the Dept of Ed from the collective then known as the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in 1979, which itself was founded in 1953, one year before the Brown ruling.
They don't like seeing educated women either, and haven't shut up about it ever since.
Yep
Why do the evilgenitals dislike d.o.e.? Creationism?
Public Education became the enemy to conservatives when 1) Evolution began being taught and 2) Christian prayer was no longer allowed. They had public education. It threatens their house of cards.
Also racism
Indeed, yet evilgenital racism and the direct links between the broken judeo /christians to slavers never seems interesting enough to topic?
Yes!
I first started hearing about it in 1977. The right-wing lodges slow and steady and some changes are nearly imperceptible. Scary people.
This is the rub...to some people, none of it feels extreme because they didn't ever feel a shift. Boiled frogs.
Anti-Christian project, ironically.
The federal department of Education has only existed for 45 years.
Because it was needed to make sure states abided by civil rights laws in the schools.. mostly southern schools. Without it, they won't have to worry about the disadvantaged or disabled anymore. F them
And contrary to the comment to which I responded, it has not been 50 years.
They are vastly outnumbered. As long as those of us who believe in democracy continue the fight to regain Congressional power we will prevail. Then we can return them to the background where they can languish & to leave a government run for the wellbeing of the majority of Americans.
MAGA hates public education. It represents the most stressful 4 years of their pre-adolescent childhood.
Well the Midwest managed all these years without the benefit of education, so it makes perfect sense.
Meanwhile, the Democrats seem to never be working on even a 5-year project.
seem to be unable to think past the next election.
Too much incompetence for Democratic leaders not to be in on the scam. #mafiastate #FollowTheMoney
they have a quarter-year project to increase stockholder profits
Stay broke
They’re working on strongly worded letters, and trying to teach the septuagenarians what a podcast is.😒
We need a LIBERAL LIBERTARIAN party.
The democrats have been working on a 100 year project. To expand education, healthcare, social safety nets, equality. Fixing that stuff, building something, takes time, persistence and a social conscience. We the people were not interested in building anything together. It’s not on the Dems.
Mostly because Dem voters don't have the patience for the sort of incremental progress that Republicans have accepted. They chipped away for decades. We got pissy after a healthcare bill wasn't good enough and let the Dems get washed.
When you say "Dem voters," you mean white progressives THEY got pissy. I long for the day people stop acting like progressives and Democrats are the same thing. They aren't.
This video has the new ideas to win Medicare for All in the U.S. It wins the debate against market fundamentalism. Part of a graphic cartoon series that rewrites economics to include non-money social organizations. Concentrated & thorough. It has lots of applications. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-3C...
Don’t confuse continuous pressure with a lack of patience. When I was born, legally recognized same sex marriage was almost a fantasy and even something like the ACA would have been a lot to imagine.
I'm not. Continuous pressure is what got this gains. Those gains have also tended to be followed by a temper tantrum from just enough people that has unwound a lot of progress.
You’re calling continuing to protest and apply pressure to politicians a “temper tantrum” when the GOP is facing death threats from what’s supposed to be their side?
I'm sorry... but what?
If you’re not familiar with US politics beyond Democratic Party criticism of the left, you’re really going to be lost on BlueSky.
I’m pretty sure he’s referring to young Dem-leaning voters sitting out in 2010 and 2014 because of the ACA
Technically, the reliable Dem voters (black voters) have that patience. The problem is most voters don't even pretend to listen to them.
Now, I do want to say before it gets too twisted, NO, the ACA wasn't and isn't good enough. We can, and should, be doing a lot better. Getting to that "better" point is the rub, and this constant 1 step forward, 2 steps back needs to stop if there's any hope for progress.
But the ACA was a HUGE improvement over what we had. And voters refused to acknowledge that it was the most progressive piece of legislation that could pass into law and survive the 40 year Republican controlled SCOTUS. And it ALMOST was too progressive to survive.
Correct. And rather than reward ourselves for getting that over the finish line, enough of us stomped our feet and walked away. Now, it's effectively dead in all but name.
Exactly. And now the most likely outcome of trying to expand Medicaid or Medicare will be the SCOTUS ruling that they are unconstitutional. Not just the expansions. The entire programs. 2 of the justices have already suggested that if a court case challenging them came forth, they would.
📌
Exactly.
What's the point of five-year projects when you all get pissy and stay home every single time the midterms roll around and they haven't already fixed every problem in America to your exacting specifications?
Which midterms have I skipped?
Because we have to undo all of the f’ed up crap Repubs have done
I want someone to explain, like they’re talking to a teacher: how long before my job disappears?
depends on where you live but if its a place that already doesnt value teachers highly (red states) the funding probably doesnt exist for anything further than a year or two
🎯
100% correct. I went to private Baptist school and they literally said, "do not attend secular school" as college advice.
I didn't, but I've known. QUOTE: The first “Mandate for Leadership”( aka Project 2025) was released in January 1981, containing policy proposals of reform that would make government more efficient and effective. President Ronald Reagan distributed Heritage’s book at his first Cabinet meeting.
I believe one of the Koch brothers was going to run for president on that platform.
newrepublic.com/article/1548... Found this one as well
I find it interesting that so many life long Republicans who supported and strengthened this agenda into what it has now become are suddenly "shocked" at the outcomes. "I didn't vote for this"🫤🤣 The current state of affairs has been building steadily for those paying moderate casual attention.
That’s what they say in public. You can tell by their voting records that they know exactly what’s going on.
🤣🎯
Yes. They viewed Reagan as "too Liberal". An openly dangerous agenda that is now manifest.
I grew up in AZ with parents who weren't quite sure the moon landing wasn't faked but were very certain about Goldwater: In your guts, you know he's nuts.
This 100% I am a “heathen” in my family bc i pursued an education and career. It scares me to my core bc i know the hate in their hearts.
100%. The evangelicals cut a deal with the GOP in the ‘60s. When Kennedy was elected, the two parties had similar platforms. By ‘68, the injection of Christian Nationalism was complete. They worked tirelessly to gerrymander, question Dem legitimacy, and position themselves as economic “stalwarts”.
My dad was a decent guy. A pastor by not an extremest. However, the sociopath that was my mother was pretty much Donald Trump in a pantsuit with no money from the south a white supremacist who religiously, emotionally, and physically abused me to say the least.
Sorry Kris. I had the opposite parental plan ! Same lousy life. Im trying to use my first hand expertise of narcissism to enlighten others.
Thanks
Talibangelicals!
I have been telling my wife this! The Pentecostals especially!
White evilgelical denominiations participated in this - not just Pentecostals. Black, white, latino....we ALL prayed for it to happen as early as the early 70s. I was there. I remember.
I know that but I'm saying Pentecost because that's the religion I grew up in. I was there.... black people were descendants of Cain and Public school was basically being taught by Satan. Everyone but us was going to hell. All the bullshit of the Talibangelical teachings I got to experience.
I understand that. We were Protestant (USAF), then evangelical after my stepdad retired, followed by charismatic evangelical. Pentecostals didn't have a corner on the market. We got it all, too. I learned the same shit, prayed the same prayers, etc. Let's just agree it was horrid.
They're all still horrible and still teaching the same tired shit. 🙄🤦
In new and increasingly disgusting ways. I'm staggered I used to consider that shit 'normal.'
How did you see thru it and move on from their thinking?
I've been trying to condense that to a statement that would fit character limits for almost 10 years. I have yet to succeed. It was a combination of factors over a span of about 25 years. I'm writing a book about it -- currently on my gazillionth edit (hopefully the last).
It takes years to undo all that programming and brainwashing. Literacy, healthy skepticism, and curiosity are the best tools to combat it.
You have no idea how few people escape the system. Anyone discovered questioning the leadership will be admonished, disciplined, counseled, and -- barring repentance and a return to stupidity - shunned or dis-fellowshiped. They'll kick your ass right out if you oppose them. There's no middle road.
Deeply depressing.
This highlights the organizational challenge the democrats face. They get together multiple times a week by the millions across this nation to coordinate our downfall while we sat at home depending on MSM to keep us informed.
Also long known by anyone who works in public education.
The thing is, they have been trying for 50 years and it hasn’t worked so they are forced to use coercion, which won’t work either, and they are all at their life expectancy so they will literally all be dead in ten years.
There are many, many younger ones.
Yeah. All of them mad at their overachieving moms
A lot of them were raised by fundies.
Very disappointed in the USSC People will see in time but the kids will suffer the most . 😞
... Their mission has been relentless for decades. The desire for Church and State to rule with ultimate authority cause that's what their god told them. Never mind the desire to be free is why they fled Europe in the first place ...
Why we even pay taxes anymore
I’m actually looking to start a podcast where myself and guests discuss the decent of Republicans into fascism. I’ve chosen the starting point of the decent back to ‘64 with Barry Goldwater and the southern strategy but also plan on covering Ralph Reed and his Christian coalition
Sounds excellent.
Think about going back to FDR & the new deal. Most Republicans at that time hated the programs. Many during that time believed democracy was dead & fascism was the way to go. In the 5 years I’ve been following History professor Heather Cox Richardson threads go back to the late 1800’s.
Yeah the new deal greatly expanded the government and created more of a relationship between citizens and the government in which the government serves as a safety net for it’s citizens which the GOP has been trying to abolish for as long as I’ve been alive
I would subscribe. Know thy enemy
That is so sad and 100% correct.
I didn't grow up in an evangelical right-wing household, but I did know of the 50-year crusade.
When people as how could the USA turn into a right wing dystopia over night....It wasn't over night. It was there all along. Racism, misogyny, beliefs in eugenics, right wing ideologies, libertarianism - extreme, hatred of tax and looking after others, subjucating of women, white entitlement...
Yup, it’s been there the whole time. What’s changed is the media was leashed and used to normalize it. Now it’s suddenly acceptable to wear hate, ignorance, and stupidity as some sort of badge of honor. At least before these sickos had to isolate themselves from polite society.
Yes, and the people who are into those things have been obsessing over seizing power for generations, dedicating countless lives and vast (ill gotten) fortunes to the cause of spreading misery
Exactly!! The country was FOUNDED on these principles.
I wrote a little essay years ago about the role Hollywood blockbusters have played in radicalizing right wing Americans. I think it's even more relevant today: A' they wee words: share.google/cTLVc0ngk0Qx...
And an unusually large percentage of the population who believe in religion, unlike nearly any other worthwhile, modern society…
Bingo. 👍
An entire media system promoting it...
to what end? to prove there really IS a sky fairy?
An educated and critically-thinking electorate makes it difficult for the patriarchy to maintain control, and to stay in power. Better to have people who are primed from birth to follow, unquestioningly, whatever their patriarch leaders require.
i have only found ONE thing in their christofascist tome that WE NEED, ostensibly spoken by their main guy, jesus: the 11th commandment. "love one another. as i have loved YOU, love one another" i think those are words we ALL should live by, no matter WHO said it first.
In full agreement!💖
back in the day when RELIGION was separate from public school, it became THE GOLDEN RULE and that god fella had nothing to do with it.
Well God might have started the trend—but I get your meaning…it was just the right thing to do—not a religious mandate.
youtu.be/z-iWe4qXUD8?...
your heart and your conscience KNOW.
I think this is true. I was raised a little differently. My parents were not church goers—not religious. Neighbors took me to Sunday school on Sundays, aged 5: I loved it! People were kind to each other, they fed me, and we sang songs that sounded right: build your house on the rock, not sand.
By 8, I got myself up and onto the Sunday School Bus, all by myself. My Mom would take away my Sunday School if I misbehaved. Still, by age 9, I told the pastor I wouldn’t be coming back, because I was going to talk to God all by myself. To Pastor’s credit, he wanted to know more…
I explained about “what if someone was on a deserted island and didn’t have a pastor—God would need to talk to them, right?” He had more questions; I decided I’d be coming back to Sunday School, just in case he had anymore questions about the matter.😂 Kids do have built-in mechanisms to understand!😊
don't look at me. i don't take priming.
lol! Not an accusatory statement. Just trying to articulate the “to what end” question. Evangelicals have also been having LARGE families for decades, in addition to raising “primed” families to be “Christian Soldiers” for their coming Theocracy. Gotta give them credit for playing the long-game!
ah, we've spoken BEFORE! HI! the young'ns who are bright don't prime either. long term leaves a LONG TIME to observe objectively. THAT'S What mother nature created them to DO., primed or not.
it's one way mother nature ensures the species' survival or at least gives it its BEST shot at survival. the brightest will be the most discerning and back in the day, become LEADERS.
Hello friend! Great points! 💖✊🏼🤗
beauty day neighbor!
💖
back at ya. youtube.com/shorts/EPd3E...
Keep them ignorant and pregnant
They've *always* hated the Department of Education.
Exactly
This has been the vision of the Heritage Foundation since Paul Weyrich and his buddies got it rolling.
Trump’s cooperation is the groundwork for setting Project 2025 in place and then promote the next conservative president that fills all the boxes and it won’t be Trump. Josh Hawley has seen himself as a future president back when he was a young teen…if not him a more pliable choice? Vance?
Vance was hand-picked for this as the successor, but I don't think he's well-liked.
#goodstuff Like Nicole Graham who refused to let her horse drown in quicksand…let’s keep holding on to hope. youtu.be/_X6D5OJPuUY
Yes, however that could be in our favor, I hope any choice the MAGA usurpers make fails spectacularly & if that’s Vance, all the better. (I insist in living with my idealistic fantasy as long as I can!)
hurts EVERYONE-all it takes? 900 pages to destroy democracy-by put T in office-destroy middle class-leaves oligarch & Poor & desperate-in the name of Jesus violate “thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain” 2 form a theocracy-control nation. www.advocate.com/politics/wha...
I guess right-wing Christians are more patient and watchful than the believers in DEMOCRACY... "Conspiracy" was an HBO movie about the Reinhard Heydrich meeting to settle the Jewish question... After the meeting, one man turned to another and asked, "Do you think we will see the dawn again?
I can confirm, all my life I heard my parents spew their wishes for the government and the acts they should take. It was a mirror image to the directives of project 2025. All of this is just people saying their quiet thoughts out loud. It has been like this for years.
You don't need to have grown up in an evangelical household to know that. You just have to be the kid who made a spear thrower from instructions you read in a book to freak out evangelical parents 50 years ago.
I think the only reason I was allowed to stay in a public school when a Christian one opened was that my mom's parents didn't let her go beyond 8th grade (even at a Christian school) and she really valued a good education
I feel like a lot of people who didn’t grow up this way also know this. The only people I know who are thrilled about this are either hard core evangelicals or hard core old-school Catholics (the type that don’t think Vatican II or the Pope is valid, & regular Catholics aren’t “real” Catholics).
Nah they are all racist
[unfortunately] interesting,… they’ve been coming for public education since Carter and Teachers Unions demanded progress.
That is precisely why I call them the #Talibangelicals, they want the same government Afghanistan has now that tRump Surrendered during his last term, as they wrap themselves in the flag and wave crosses in your face.
Just a few years back it was part of Rick Perry’s presidential campaign platform (along with eliminating departments he couldn’t even remember)
Sad. Sorry.
Yes. In spite of them telling me to be a teacher....
Yup, the dumbing down of America has been a long process that began, if I remember correctly, in the late 60s.
💯
Yep.
Yep. To me a 50 year waste of time to find solutions that aren't helping. Their time could have been spent getting pedophiles out of their organizations.
