I was going to say something similar. Just because the map is red doesn't mean you can't vote for someone else or do a write in. That's how Lisa Murkowski kept her seat in Alaska.

There's another thing going on there--if you look at a similar map of US as a whole, a huge majority of the country is red. But that land majority doesn't represent population density. Rural areas where many Rs live are not densely populated, Cities in blue have many people packed closer together.

Though these maps represent how the majority voted in each precinct, they totally mislead & manipulate people's perceptions. And to your point--in each precinct there are voters who chose other than the R candidate--and a significant number in the lighter red/pink regions.

This is what happens when you have wide spread ignorance of the system. The first 2 thoughts upon seeing this map are: 1. Where’s the population density map that should be next to this one? 2. This is what you get in a winner take all system. Ignore all other votes & people who cast them

IL has a statewide population of roughly 12.5 Million people. Of that, over half of the state’s population is in the Chicagoland area. Other counties have such a small population they don’t even warrant a number to go with the color on the map.

The smallest county in Illinois is Hardin, with a population of just 3,563. Followed by Pope: 3,629 Calhoun : 4,245, and Gallatin : 4,364 Some call it gerrymandering. I call it the popular vote. Imagine what this country would be like if they abolished the electoral college.
