From these comments it doesn't seem to matter because no candidate is going to be perfect for the parties base and actually be an electible candidate for the middle class majority of the country. At this point we might as well just resign ourselves to Trump's authoritarian rule

Yes it's where the party members elect the candidate they think can both represent the majority of their party's policy to the best of his or her ability while still being able to win a general election and represent the country as a whole, at least in theory

Somebody else pointed this out and I am corrected I confused my wording I meant that primaries elect the fringes of the parties instead of candidates that can win general elections and represent the majority of the population in general elections like midterms

Democrats have so thoroughly deluded themselves that their milquetoast views are actually radical that they live in perpetual fear of the consequences should they elect someone they actually like, resulting in them constantly voting for people who nobody likes in the primaries

*Extremely Loud Incorrect Buzzer* You just described a primary, midterms are the elections for Congress that happen in the MIDdle of the presidential term.

You are right I confused my answer, doesn't change my answer. Primaries are were Democrats nominate candidates that are supposed to be able to win general elections in the midterms. But unfortunately we only nominate candidates that are popular amongst the Democratic base Was what I intended to say

Newsom has nothing to do with any seat coming up in midterms. Those are for Congress, and he is a governor.
