My life is good right now. I woke up very happy on Monday having dreamed of listening to a new REM album with an old friend. And our godchildren are coming to visit this evening for a long weekend. (They're all under 9, but already turning into interesting people.)

Went to a games meet-up and won two rounds of the card game Coup, which I'm normally the worst at. Then won a round of No Thanks with a very risky strategy that could've bit me in the ass.

My father was happy with how my mother's funeral turned out. I've spend weeks planning it, worried that I'd disappoint him, but he said that it was "perfect."

This week was mostly trash, BUT: 1. A usually-difficult colleague called me out in a big meeting for kudos for coming in last weekend to rescue our freezers during a major power outage; that was nice 2. I had French-Creole food with friends tonight (Shrimp & grits! Beignets!) and it was delightful

Reading this thread has been a real affirmation of joy, thank you! Also - booked a last minute weekend break at the seaside, but there was a snafu with the booking so thought we wouldn't make it. But it got sorted by superb accommodation lady and now we have great digs in lovely quirky Hastings!

My favorite shirt went to the dry cleaners, didn’t come home. I wrote him a letter telling him politely how upset I was & included a photo of the shirt. When my husband brought home the dry cleaning, there was my shirt…the id tag had come off and the photo I provided helped him in finding the owner!

Just delivered some delicious dark chocolate Florentine cookies to him!! I am so happy to have my lovely madras shirt back!!

I saw them off Victoria 4 years ago. It was a high point of my life.

Made a delicious pot of chili for myself and my dad. My "secret ingredient" is a can of V8 juice.

Oh, interesting secret ingredient. I love chili. V8 would add some nice acid and plenty of salt, for sure.

I use the low-sodium version, and it's just salty enough that the final product doesn't need much extra salt. It also adds some sweetness and subtle spinach/parsley notes that we really enjoy.

A man at the allotment garden gave me freshly harvested lettuce from his garden after I had said I had just sown some and was hoping for success. It was such an unexpected kindness. Also delicious.

My arms stopped being sore from my first silks lesson just in time to get sore again from my covid and flu shots. But at least I’m more protected.

Not joy but amused me. Doglet wailing so loudly as if he was being tortured when I took him to the vets this week. He was not being tortured, the vet just needed him to sit still for a moment. Doglet likes to be dramatic. He got lots of treats and hugs after. He made no noise or complaints while—

— vet inspected his ear & removed a grass seed, but before that when the vet dared try to make him sit, oh wow, the cries, the horrors, the wails. It reminded me of when the fear of the thing is more scary than the thing itself and made me soft that it isn’t just us silly humans that —

— experience it. Anyway, he got lots of love and hugs and snuggles and treats afterwards. He’d given the ‘I’ve been traumatised today so need a little treat’ look

I revised my will to gift the bulk on my estate and income generating property to the animal shelter where I adopted Ruby, a senior dog from TN, who loved me more than anyone else in this world ever had. The offspring's student visa was approved and their plane ticket is booked for London. So excited for them to start this new adventure. Also, our greenhouse plants are thriving, and I'm ready for some fresh veggies soon!

This week the youth center I work at put on a show, Performing Arts Night 2025. It's a multi month project where the artists (age 18 to 25 ish) develop a piece, rehearse, and eventually present it to a live audience. All the performers knocked our socks off and brought me a lot of joy.

Some family shakeup looks to be resolving in a really positive way. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. 🌸

I’ve had so many feral weeks of late, being in Florida finishing up the house without anyone else.

There's a freedom in slobbing out, knowing it's not a lifestyle.

I finished the third draft of the story I am writing for my 7 year-old godson. I started illustrating parts of it too! It’s making me happy.

Moved to a very small and insular community 3 years ago. Very much the outsider. A year ago, I joined the local rescue squad, and a couple weeks ago, passed my EMT. Now I have people I don’t know coming up to me and congratulating me, and thanking me for my service to the community. Bliss!

I put fresh cold water in a birdbath during a heatwave today and immediately got to watch a crow take a luxurious bath.

That must have been so much water flying everywhere. I can imagine it.

So much. I had to refill the bath again after! But they looked like they enjoyed it.

Nothing better than a happy bathing bird! Had finches in my birdbath last east coast drought in Australia; coming home from a night shift and watching those tiny fuzzballs bathe and then, hilariously, maximum-effort-fly wet up to the fence to stand in the sun and dry off was a great joy 😍

I got a follow-up mammogram yesterday and I got a great tech who was fast and very efficient!
