DAMN. I am an EKG tech and at my hospital, patients with ANY possible chest pain (even pregnant people with abdominal pain) gets an EKG within 10 minutes of arriving. EVERYONE.
DAMN. I am an EKG tech and at my hospital, patients with ANY possible chest pain (even pregnant people with abdominal pain) gets an EKG within 10 minutes of arriving. EVERYONE.
Women are never taken seriously when it comes to health issues. Or any other issues for that matter. I once had a doctor tell me i needed a hobby. For severe pain. I told him i had plenty of hobbies, none of which involved sitting in his waiting room for nothing.
We desperately need to get money out of Healthcare and politics. Until then nothing will change. Profits over morality is this country death rattle.
As a Canadian I watch these threads and feel deeply for you. Our system is not perfect (none is) but at least I know that when I go to the hospital (all universal) I will get good care. I may have to advocate for myself or loved one, but doctors listen and NO ONE ever talks about money.
Once US does this watch out, it may be contagious. Politicians may follow our sorry lead. Be vigilant
Our medical system is inherently misogynistic. We need to eliminate the need for private insurance with M4A and overhaul the whole fucking system. And purge our government of these Gilead-wannabe-fuckers.
New Mexico health "care". It's AWFUL here. The good doctors don't stay because they won't make enough money, we are poverty level. Selfish assholes. The hospitals are so poorly ran. I figure if something happens to me I will probably die.
😡
Tell me about it. Once upon a time , we 🇫🇷 had the best health system in the world. Then they decided to turn it into sth profitable. Now there are countless examples of bad care, with young people calling the once extremely effective SAMU, and getting inadapted answers with sometimes deadly delays.
Par for the course, sadly.
Soon, she would have had NO health insurance. Protest the BBB!
Is this is interesting for you @realscientists.de ? The malpractice, not the lawsuit.
That's been the case for women forever. This is not new. When my mom was having heart attacks, twice her hospital (in NS, Canada) sent her home, saying she had the flu. My sister demanded she be admitted the third time, and only 12 hours before she passed the doc admitted, yes, heart attack.
On it's way to the UK at lighting speed while it's inhabitants sleep
😢
So sad. Actually this is what it’s like to be a woman seeking healthcare. I went to MD complaining of chest pain accompanied by extreme exhaustion and loss of breath requiring me to sit down. MD poked my in the chest and asked if that hurt. It did. Without any tests he told me it was muscle pain.
Nurses are mean too
Isn't this ALL healthcare? QoC is relative to ability to pay & also the color of one's skin. Yes, there are thousands of outstanding medical professionals in the US, but as there are systemic issues in all other aspects of our society, the same applies to HC. Privatization will make matters worse.
Ahh another woman dismissed by the medical profession.
Also gender-biased diagnosis- women often not considered for cardiac issues like heart attacks, but try to say anxiety or ignore the symptoms.
My mom's diagnosis: headaches caused by stress from her children. Her treatment (with a few months to spare): brain surgery to remove a Mandarin-orange sized tumour.
Tragic. Hope she recovers fully and quickly!🩵
She was told 6 months without surgery. After...40 more years! We got her for 40 more years because a doctor listened and believed.
Glad to hear that!
I had a friend who lived five years with stomach pains. 7 doctors told her to "lose weight, you'll feel better." Finally got a doctor to listen to her and operated. The cancer was too advanced, she died two months later. This is serious.
Making America great!
Why do you think that has anything to do with the hospital being for profit? A for profit hospital gets paid for everything it does. They in fact often run loads of tests "just to check" because every test they run makes them a profit. So I'm highly skeptical to the problem being profit.
Another symptom of corporate rights and greed over human rights. It’s wrong to not have single-payer health care in this country and a travesty, along with potential for significant human rights abuses, to have private equity creating incentives that increase the chances of poor health outcomes.
Former medical social worker here of many years. This happens at “non-profit” hospitals whose C-suite pay is often comparable to corporate pay.
It’s not that hard, or expensive, to simply do an EKG.
Her fault was her gender. As woman they don't take you seriously. Especially when you are young, sometimes even female doctors.
Hangin out at Duke Hospital ER in Durham & people watching while waiting for a friend to be seen (6 hrs into the wait). Sad to see people coming into the ER with hope that a Dr. will help them only to see them hours later with doom on their faces because I can only guess 1 Dr. in ER? DUKE-DO BETTER
Hospitals never believe women and if you are a minority woman it’s doubly so.
Why is it that no one ever wants to believe a fvcking woman? Any man with chest pains would have been admitted immediately.
Tbf, this is a common response to any women's health complaint.
So neither gave her an EKG? Sheesh
bsky.app/profile/indi...
Same when health insurance is for-profit. It's far more profitable NOT to deliver the care people have paid for, and health insurance companies deliberately refuse to approve needed care for that reason.
Misogyny in our healthcare system is awful, just awful.
This is a horrible outcome for malpractice at both the Dr and hospital levels.
For three days. She lost her baby. She later needed a heart transplant. Bryanna sued. A jury awarded $9.5 mill for what she endured. But New Mexico has a law that puts a price tag on suffering. A cap on what your life is worth after medical negligence. So her award was slashed to $1.8 mill. 2.
New Mexico caps malpractice awards at $600,000 per doctor under the state Medical Malpractice Act, regardless of what a jury decides Now corporate hospital lobbyists want to lower that cap even more, to protect profits, not patients. They failed her. Then punished her for surviving. 3.
Malpractice is there for a reason. If a jury finds reasonable cause then it shouldn’t be a slap on the wrist. I have Malpractice insurance.
And 40% of that $1.8 million goes to attorneys.
Patient advocacy group—New Mexico Safety Over Profit stepped in to make sure her story didn’t disappear. While hospital CEOs are defending their bottom lines, NMSOP is exposing the real cost—paid by patients like her. They’re fighting to stop corporate hospitals from rewriting laws… 4.
…to shield themselves from accountability. This is about who holds power when the system fails. It’s about whether justice belongs to patients or to the people who profit off their pain. 5.
Lawmakers who side with the hospitals are not fixing healthcare. They are protecting the ones who broke it. -end- www.taosnews.com/news/health/...
The caps need to be removed. It's about making bad healthcare so expensive that good healthcare is the only thing hospitals can afford to give.
It’s like Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, who was paralyzed when a neighbor’s tree fell on him and he sued. Abbott got a lot of money. He turned around and passed a law that said that people couldn’t could not sue like that anymore. I’m not from Texas, that’s just how I understood it.
Well, that's sure an asshole move! "I got mine. Nuts to the rest of you." Then again, Abbot's a known asshole. I've witnessed good healthcare and bad. What bad care does to people's lives can be devastating and permanent.
Everything is bigger in Texas- including assholes
That’s the Republican way
Well Abbot is 10 gallon hat asshole big so…
Abbot is a horrible person. A wheelchair doesn’t give you cart Blanche to be evil unless you live in Texas.
I live in New Mexico. Healthcare here is a sad and deadly joke. Doctors are leaving the state in droves. Most doctors aren't taking new patients, especially if they're Medicare or Medicaid. Rural hospitals are closing, including those serving Native Americans. Face-time appointments are the norm.
My nephew had a heart attack and the hospital he went to sent him to another, they didnt have a cardiologist on staff 🤷🏽♀️
and then you have ambulance crews who know not to take ‘certain’ people to private hospitals and will take them to public hospitals at a greater distance
Thats fucked up
THIS!!! I was an EMT in the NYC*EMS system for many years, and this is 100% true. We knew not to take an unhoused person off a bench in Central Park to Lenox Hill; conversely, we didn't take a corporate CEO to Bellevue. There ARE "rich" and "poor" peoples' hospitals. It's always been so.
I needed to have a lump removed from my breast in 1986, diagnosed at the breast clinic at Columbia Presbyterian. The head of service told me they wouldn’t do it at the hospital because I didn’t have insurance (couldn’t afford it) and sent me away to figure out what to do.
It’s unbelievable. This country’s values are so screwed up 😡 The wealthy are treated like kings and the rest are treated like pariahs😡
That's very true in Missouri where I used to live when teaching at UM-Columbia and now in ABQ, NM. The university hospitals are overcrowded, dirty and understaffed.
My father, a cardiovascular surgeon in the hospital system, died of a gastric bleed, bc they had no gastroenterologist on call, they use out of state “hospitalists”. The system he spent 50 yrs of his life building. Didn’t even bother to inform the admitting Dr, a colleague, he learned via another Dr
That is awful and very sad. I am sorry for your and your family's loss.
Thank you, Dr. He deserved so much better. Nevertheless his memory is a great blessing to this daughter. ❤️
Your father was one of the courageous and gifted individuals who made personal sacrifices to make the world a better place. Makes this cruel regress even worse by wasting the efforts of the path builders. We are in tortuous times. I am so sorry.
Thank you. He was an immensely talented and dedicated surgeon. As bad as the medical system is from the outside, it can be as awful from the inside. We need such major reforms. One reason to keep fighting. We all deserve better.
🥺
💔😢
He died trying to teach the damn hospitalist how to diagnose and treat a gastric bleed as if he were teaching a resident.
Then the hospital declared bankruptcy, no lawsuit. Nothing
😳
I am in New Mexico too and we are definitely are loosing good doctors. The area I'm in needs more specialists and psychiatrists.
Psychiatrists are in short supply nationwide.
So if you're old why live in New Mexico for the clean air nice to visit but wouldn't want to live there shameful
I've lived in 4 different states and I follow the jobs as well as my education. We came to NM because my husband got a position at Sandia Labs, one of the national laboratories, but then he died. Widow grief makes it difficult to do anything. Don't assume ppl have choices.
Did you and whoever you associate with vote for trump if so your guilty of stupidity if not I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sorry your gov does not give a rats patui about you but I'm pretty sure 🤡 boy thinking of you while he's playing golf with everybody who thru you under the bus.
You're lumping me in with Trump voters and his cult? Maybe try getting to know someone before making that kind of accusation.
We had to leave NM when my wife had a heart attack and could no longer live at altitudes over 3000 feet. We miss it terribly, but between the altitude and the lack of healthcare we just couldn’t stay. She was never even referred to a cardiologist.
I'm at 7500 ft. so I understand your dilemma. I had to see a cardiologist last year. It took 6 months to get the appointment and it was a 2 hour round trip drive. Ditto for going back to get tests.
Yikes. We were devastated that we had to leave. We loved living there. We lived in Rio Rancho and I worked in Santa Fe.
Ah. Well, new layoffs were just announced for Intel in Rio Rancho. The Trumpist cult in eastern NM is rising up to take over the Round House in Santa Fe since Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) can't run again. The southern border was taken over by the National Guard. I love this state, but it's hard.
I'm in NM, too. When I was taken by ambulance to the hospital 3 yrs ago, I was screaming in pain and the ambulance dumped me at the ER, where I waited alone for 7 hrs to be old my gallbladder was rupturing. I was told after my surgery that had I had to wait any longer, I would've died from sepsis.
Good grief. Your story is one of many I've heard about hours and hours waiting in ER for truly serious conditions. In ABQ the urgent care centers can do very little, so hospital ERs are the usual choice. University Hospital has maybe the longest wait time, Presbyterian is a close second.
This is good to know, thank you. We were considering New Mexico as a retirement site.
Sounds like where I live in Oregon. The minute I retired I couldn't find a doctor to be my primary care physician.....I currently see a nurse who isn't even linked to an MD for oversight.
My dentist just closed her practice thanks to the current political climate and insurance companies refusing claims. As for my nurse practitioner, she speaks in cliches, mumbles, never lifts her face from the computer, doesn't take notes on my chart...it's pointless to see her for anything.
Yep, also live in NM and seeing this.
Awful
My daughter was an ER nurse in Albuquerque for a year as a travel nurse. She had many stories about the health care system there. It is a system dealing with many challenges.
That is so sad to hear. My family knows about bad healthcare. I have stage 4 cancer and my son has cystic fibrosis. We drive two hours each way to get our healthcare. I don’t know what we would do if it was statewide. Thank you for sharing .
I am so sorry to hear Susan. May you and your son be protected and supported.
Thank you 💙
Sadly things will only get worse for rural hospitals if this big ugly bill passes into law 😔

There are no words for the depravity going on in our country. It's a cancer that is metastasizing. We are human beings!!
We need to start holding our elected officials and leaders accountable for what comes out of their mouths. If they can continue to lie, provable lies, and not be imprisoned or face consequences then there will be no rule of law. If you wanna hit them legally, this is how you do it.
Physicians have to pay for malpractice insurance so that eats into their annual income The lobbyists worked hard to convince NM this cap was to protect Physicians from paying those medical scammers in false claims Hospitals
That's gross
Ugh!

Texas caps these too.

If they’re going to act like the unborn are fully human, then all awards and culpability needs to be doubled for the unborn child.
You never think of ppl that young having a heart attack. It happens. My Grandmother had a heart attack at 35 when she was in labor with her last child. Expect more tragic stories. I fear our healthcare system is collapsing. I am nearing the end of my lifespan. I am wondering "how bad will this be?"
Thank you! I needed this. I’m having a bit of a day and your contribution reminded me where my work originates: in the failings of the health sector, much of it due to profiteering. And no matter what, human dignity and welfare is worth it to use whatever we have to shape a wholesome world.
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Healthcare has been publicly traded for a while now. They are getting progressively worse in trying to appease their stockholders. It's all about the money.
We need to be 26 million or more on Friday. We cannot lose momentum. They didn't seem to hear us at 13 million. Please Americans, Make A Protest Your Patriotic Duty. youtu.be/WcGQy6Vt6hY?...
I had to relocate from South NM to another State due to medical needs. The people moving into Southern NM go out of State (Arizona Colorado Texas) for serious treatment. The people that can’t afford to fly in their private plane get what they get and it is not good
My daughter graduated from Johns Hopkins wanting to pursue rural healthcare. She fled NM after the profit hospital refused to supply basic level healthcare including medication that is required. NM is extremely poor The healthcare owners are not. Profit over people every day
When our daughter earned her doctorate in nursing, she went to practice in an underserved area, hoping for loan reductions. For two years, she & others like her would apply & be turned down (this was during DonOld’s first term) Only the white guy got loan forgiveness 🤬
If the doctor lets you down, send a quick prayer my way. Lethal injection jesus will try to heal you. If not try the new savior Donald (taco) Trump. He is better than any previous God. Note...white Americans only.
Hey 🇨🇦, watch what your Conservative Premiers are doing to your HC, your doctors/nurses & hospitals. This is the end result if u keep voting for Cons in 🇨🇦. They are trying to privatize everything at your expense exactly like the Trump Regime to the south. Wake up & STOP voting for these destroyers.
It's called 'minimal protocol' doing the least for a patient because the CFO says the corp. ain't making enough $$$$
New Mexico hospitals aren't the best. My dad died in one.
This can't continue. The Repubs want women to have children yet they are going to have them dying. A heart attack, you stupid idiots.

#Healthcare in a barbaric state.
It will be back to the Golden Age of Health Care... When rural communities had to call the Horse Doctor for a medical emergency. Because when the Hospital closes... the Doctors and Nurses have to leave too... or they won't have a job.
When you hear Republicans talk about the need for tort reform because of "greedy lawyers," this is what they mean. It's the greedy hospitals and insurance companies they are actually trying to protect.
Universal Health Care would solve so many problems and save lives. But the elites have to have bigger tax breaks no matter how many working class people die.
😳😢
I suffered from morning sickness the entire first trimester with my second child. Not once was crushing chest pain a symptom. 🙄🤬
Retired career paramedic here. I’ve had people whose ONLY complaint was mild shortness of breath and something really minor but super odd…like one guy said his left pinky finger was being squeezed in a vise. He had a full-blown left lateral myocardial infarction.
Any decent EMT or Paramedic would have treated her like a heart attack patient. It takes an MD to dismiss those symptoms as indigestion. You don't come to NM for medical care, it sucks here.
That's exactly true. I don't care if you are young, old, male, female, pregnant, etc. It takes 2 minutes to do a proper 12 lead ecg to see if there are any changes in the hearts electrical conduction. A hospital could do a blood draw in a few minutes and wait for results.
I lived in NM for eight years. Healthcare there is a joke. Want to see an MD? Forget it - there aren't any. It's pretty much non-existent unless you live in Santa Fe. Don't retire there.
Tell Congress: No billion-dollar handouts while they gut Medicaid, SNAP, and education. We see the cruelty—and we won’t be silent. Flood their inboxes! Use Resistbot now resist.bot/petitions/PD... It’s fast, it’s free, and it works.
She would have been taken seriously if she was a man
100%
The local hospital called my first heart attack "just a panic attack." It killed the bottom part of my heart. For my 2nd heart attack, they sent me to the next county & even they couldn't fix the damage. A team of surgeons at UNC did the best they could. They said my EF will likely never go over 30.
I’m so sorry. 😞
Men would let themselves die and refuse to check with a doctor
Hecka marginalized women would too
Who’s paying to be injured and abused? That’s silly
Exactly. Not only is this a tragic story of a greedy and ignorant healthcare system, but one of the many shortfalls of women's studies and women's healthcare. It's egregious and sadly only going to get worse.
This also speaks to how women are treated by the medical community in general. Concerns brushed off, barely any research for "women only" issues... I'm a white girl with good care and it still sucks. It's a gazillion times worse for women of any color. 💔
Honestly, of all the things in America to be scared about…healthcare gotta be one of the scarier ones
I see, but think of all the money they’ll rack up when they just let them die and then just keep them around as an incubator until the corpse’s stench cuts into profits
Since it is all about the money, SUE the bastards for malpractice!
It’s criminal that we have for profit HC in this country. It absolutely puts profits ahead of care and also adds layers of middle men looking to cash in. It would be way more efficient to have Medicare for all. How r we the only western country not to have that for its citizens
I read the replies, wow! I’m happy I live in California, I never knew this about the state. I do know we have non-profit hospitals here. I have however never been turned away at a for profit hospital or have had to wait that long. They generally take cardiac patients first. I’m shocked! Thank you

WTF happened to: "The Hippocratic Oath is a foundational ethical code for physicians, emphasizing principles of medical ethics, patient care, and professional conduct". [search Hippocratic Oath for more details].
Honestly this is just what it’s like to be a woman seeking care in the US. Our symptoms are always minimized. Women in general die more from heart attacks because our pain is not taken as seriously.
The people who want this believe heart attacks are sent to poor people by God
I would follow you all over again for this post.

The MAGA cult has no idea what's coming for them ...
Unfortunately it is coming for all of us 💔
Agreed as MAGAts don’t care about the interconnectedness of all humans.
NM has the highest rate of maternal mortality outside of the south. It’s an absolute outlier in the American West.
It will be a kick to the balls.
We are literally fighting to help those who voted for the 🍊cult leader. The bill personally helps me. I'm top 10%. But I feel horrible for what's coming for young people just out of college and career workers still earning under $51K. But some only learn the hard way. One BBB is a big scam.
They’re too fucking stoopid to know ANYTHING
MAGA will say it’s gods will
Oh, they know. They just don't care because we will suffer too. And they think we will suffer more than them.
That's the shit that happens anytime a woman says she's in pain. She's blown off. Also all the research on heart attacks has been done on men. Most doctors don't know what it looks like in women and it's different
😪🤧🥵
Hope you are getting better, and so sorry you have gone through this.
😞
Yes, corporate medicine ( treating Healthcare as a profit center rather than a human right) is the worst thing that has happened in this country since the Civil War. It is the reason that US Healthcare has plummeted from being the best in the world to the bottom of the barrel.
Just "lady problems"
After this disaster of a bill is passed, there will be tons of hospitals closing.
Nothing wrong with for-profit healthcare. That’s how capitalism works. Letting hospitals make a decent profit will allow them to stay open. Simple logic. If you can’t pay the cost that isn’t the hospitals’ fault, is it? It’s also not my fault or problem either, is it? What’s the difficulty here?🤔
Hurricanes don't turn a profit, but the Federal Government uses tax money from California to help those needy Americans in Louisiana or Florida. ? That's what makes it a "United" States. Share the wealth, and keep citizens free and safe. Not every single endeavor is about turning profit$.
Isn't "share the wealth" just another name for evil socialism? Aren't we supposed to hate because they're really socialist commies who want to take your hard earned money and give it to people who didn't earn it? In a really great America everyone could afford their own healthcare, right?🤪🤪🤪
The original 'horror' of Communism was that they were Godless Atheists who closed Churches and jailed you for religion. You had to replace a Christian cross with an image of Lenin and worship Mother Russia. Now evil Commie means anybody who doesn't worship wealth or messes with the Rich's riches.
Most of the people who accuse others of being “communists” or “socialists” have no idea what those terms actually mean, it’s just labels, buzz words really, that are guaranteed to get a rise out of fearful, gullible people. Just handy labels, as you suggest, for anyone they don’t like.
Misogyny in medicine!
Quacks
So between these two hospitals, nobody even bothered to check her blood pressure or pulse? This is the worst case of diagnosis: being a woman I’ve seen this month! And this month two guards watched a detainee deliver a miscarriage! Where’s the humanity?!!!
Reading through this and it sounds about right for how women are often treated regarding pain.
Stop this budget bill CALL your senators You, your children, grandchildren, and your aging parents are depending on YOU @5calls.org
A simple quick EKG would have told them that.
How could they not do that?? I have been to the ER several times for various mild blood pressure/heart rate issues. First thing they do is an EKG and blood test to check troponin levels. And that was without complaining of any chest pain. Good grief!
This has been happening to women especially if they are NOT white for a long time. Shit never changes.
There is a blood test that takes minutes to determine if your heart muscle is damaged or in stress. That was how they found my heart attack. It was a non-traditional heart attack and they would have sent me home if not for that test for Troponin.
For Profit Hospitals are an oxymoron
Incompetent doctors in it for the money not the calling. Money distorts everything.
My mom had her first heart attack at 38. The doc said nothing was wrong with her and sent her home. She was back in the ER a few hours later and her primary care doc had to beg to get her admitted. This happens a lot to women. They say It is in our heads.
And it’s crazy that they often overlook the fact that symptoms of heart attack in women are very different from those in men.
I've read that nausea/vomiting, upper abdominal pain, pain in the upper back are some of the symptoms in women. I saw an ER document that stated an EKG doesn't always catch a heart attack, so they do multiple troponin tests. Horrible that women can't get the correct care they need.
Did you smile more?🥵🤬
LOL!
Women are so commonly gaslit in healthcare. It's disgusting.
I have had a chronic pain condition in my pelvic floor muscles for over 15 years. I can't tell you how hard it has been to get a doctor to listen to me. The first doctors I saw said it was anxiety and depression. I can't tell you what a relief it was to find out I wasn't crazy.
I am so sorry you've dealt with this! Doctors are still of the mindset with women having any type of issue it goes right back to our emotions and "anxiety and depression." It is archaic!
Having this changed my life. I still don't really understand how it happened or why it won't go away. I have had multiple doctors and treatments. My heart goes out to anyone who has a chronic condition.
My wife has fibromyalgia and it took years to get a diagnosis. She has a number of paying issues including scoliosis and after years of trying different things she's found methadone is the only thing that works.
Good grief. pain issues, not paying issues. I need to fire my proofreader, he sucks.
It was easy to know what you meant!
Every 6 months she has to have the doctor justify it to the insurance, so she goes a few days without. She can only get 28 days at a time, on day 29. Impossible to have a buffer. It limits our vacation planning.
That's just not right. She shouldn't have to go without the medication she needs. A few years ago I was taking a couple of different medications together. Then the government said I couldn't take both. Needless to say losing one didn't help my pain situation.
I wish some of these doctors and government officials had to live how I live for a few days. They would change their tune quickly. It has been mostly men making decisions about my damn healthcare.
It's non-doctors and non-pharmacists insurance employees whose JOB is to DENY CARE who make our decisions. I hope every insurance CEO lives in constant fear, because that's how they make us live.
I understand restrictions because it's a controlled substance, but with every other med you get to have a few days buffer. With this one a few days deficit every six months. Can't get it without insurance approval, can't pay cash in the meantime without losing coverage altogether.
Possibly look into and work with her Dr for an early refill due to "travel." Even if it's just 1-2 weeks' worth, it will give a bit of a buffer for her to not go without. I refill my RXs ASAP whether or not I need it so I can build up a small back supply, but I know that doesn't work for everyone.
😢
bsky.app/profile/dawn...
Won’t be long until it happens in Doug Ford’s Ontario too.
That is sad and disturbing and not surprising. A simple 4 lead EKG would show rhythm abnormalities and then a 12 lead would be done. If you have chest pain, my advice is to call 911 for an ambulance, most medics will do this from the start.
Remove. The. Cap! Ffs!!
😢
Oh it's straight up gop. "All for me none for thee" www.texastribune.org/2013/08/04/c...
The whole malpractice system needs to be restructured. The system is based on the principles of capitalism which is antithetical to the purpose of medicine…to heal and to improve quality of life, not profit off the pain and suffering as a human being living on this planet.
In this patriarchal society, women are seldom taken at face value, particularly in medicine. Had she been a 24 year old male, her symptoms would have put her directly into a cardiac work up. Ladies, don’t let physicians ignore you!
Diagnosing on assumption on a belly bump. Determining if it makes a dollar, they have a responsibilty to examine and treat life threating situations. Subjective, Objective and Assessment Plan its 101 in medical. This happens when politics, CEO's and stockholders play doctor.
It's pure insanity. New Mexico has so few doctors as it is, and most don't want to come because of high premiums on medical malpractice ins, and being overworked. It's a vicious cycle. 💰In the meantime, the CEOs are banking it. 💰This poor woman deserved so much more. Her story saddens and scares me.
The other side of the story: I live in NM and there is a shortage of docs here because of the medical malpractice laws that don’t protect them from being sued into extinction. So be careful what you wish for because I am tired of waiting 6 months to see a doc due to shortage of providers
Scarily common. Women’s heart-attack symptoms are often over-looked/dismissed by hlthcare professionals. Happened to a friend but she refused to leave the ER—ended up having bypass surgery. WOMEN, do NOT leave the ER if you think you are having a ♥️ attack! womensheartalliance.org/wp-content/u...
😥
And for profit health insurance companies basically run Congress. The time for universal healthcare happened in the 80s. What we’re seeing now is so horrifying. Insurance it’s not healthcare. It is a gatekeeper to healthcare.
We the people choose the candidates, not Citizens United.
It would be great to get back to that
You rarely get to be a candidate for either party unless you agree to go along with the status quo two party/one oligarchy system and it's built in unfairness to the average person.
Because a computer really can’t diagnose.
Exactly.
Women have ALWAYS been misdiagnosed. Their symptoms are discounted, ignored, dismissed... It is another revolting display of MISOGYNY! I hope she can sue those 'doctors' who said her CHEST PAIN was morning sickness.😭
Women present differently than Men.
Heart attacks can be harder to diagnose in women*... but not when they are specifically complaining about crushing chest pain (!) *Often women having a heart attack don't present with chest pain; could be nausea instead. Men can also have these "silent" heart attacks but it's less common.
Here are the details of her story. omny.fm/shows/voices...
Healthcare is no longer about health but putting profits first
“Women! So hysterical, amirite?” - Medical “professionals”
😢😢😢
Awful, just awful. Did she survive the heart attack?
Texas slashed it too, I think it’s capped at a million, which is then split with lawyers and taxed. The medical care is abhorrent throughout the state. Not a critique of my current doctors, who are a huge blessing, but it was years of awful before I found them.
Certainly operating healthcare for profit contributes hugely to the problem, but women’s serious health concerns being completely dismissed is nothing new.
The way it works is a total nonsense.
Did she survive? Her baby?
We should join the rest of the modern countries of the world. Healthcare is a human right. Such a fleece job.
Medical malpractice.
We already kno
Single-payer is not perfect but I have no problem with the person fishing around in my mental porridge or the trauma scrub or ICU RN making enough $$$ to feel that all of their years and sacrifices and personal psychic trauma are adequately compensated. People, not companies!
☹️ So sad…🙏🏻💙
Never ever go to a for-profit hospital if you have the option to go to a not-for-profit hospital. I used to work for a for-profit hospital. I wouldn't send my dog there.
I d rather go to a veterinarian!
There’s no help for pregnant women only distrust.
Hopefully someone will show up with an ass kicking lawyer to get these institutions thinking correctly.
This country is regressing 😡. Trump and his Regime want the old ways back: only white men with property can vote 🗳️, and slavery is legal again. Women have ZERO rights. Basically, No 👎 longer the year 2025. They want us to live in the year 1825.
They want us to go back even earlier-Massachusetts outlawed slavery in 1783.
They don't want a lot of us to live at all
Just to work the factories and farms
Yeah. Like I've said before, they are going to have to shoot me.
No 👎 We don’t want it to get to that point. But that’s why these billionaires have become Doomsday Preppers, and building their Doomsday Bomb 💣 Shelters. Because THEY KNOW that we “Commoners” are going to come RIGHT AFTER THEM when the time is right. www.vice.com/en/article/b...
I concur with that message
Yeah 👍 They SURE don’t want us Commoners to Benito Mussolini them. Hung upside down 🙃, in plain sight, for everyone in public to spit on. www.nationalww2museum.org/death-of-ben...
Another big factor: she’s a woman. We’re far less likely to be taken seriously in medical settings - for profit or not.
This is a combination of for profit healthcare and the consistent bias of doctors. If you aren’t a white male that weighs exactly what they think is “healthy” you will get shit care. For women, it’s always stress and panic, for man it’s always weight. If we can’t take money out, maybe add education.
yes
I hope they're keeping a list of women who die while try to get treatment for a miscarriage or any other part of pregnancy... America is now barbaric..
I've got some bad news for ya, not for profit hospitals aren't much better. It's usually not because someone in the ER is looking at cost while examining the patient, it's laziness,it's bias, it's burnout, it's over worked and underpaid staff. The over worked and underpaid is prevalent in both types
Public health care IS better because the mandate is for the public, not profit. Public outrage is worth something because the hypocrisy can be pointed out. It's still flawed, I agree, but the type of mandate is really important.
UNMH in NM is a non profit hospital that is also a teaching hospital. I’m 100% sure this would not have happened under their care. They saved mine and my child’s life after we were in a car accident at 27 weeks in 2008.
Please don't misconstrue my post, I've worked at a few excellent hospitals.
The same thing happened to my grandfather some 50 years ago, when he was in his 60s. He was told by an intern that it was just indigestion and to take antacids. Luckily he survived.
My dad's brain tumor was misdiagnosed as pink eye. Pink eye! By a hospital. This shit should never happen. We are just a product to them, to crank out as fast as possible to bill as many patients in a day as possible.
I’m so sorry that this travesty happened to your dear dad 😢
We need to inundate politicians with these stories.
In America, women are not supposed to have heart attacks, haven't you heard? That's reserved for men only.
FYI www.youtube.com/watch?v=782u...
The vile and disgusting idiots couldn’t even run one troponin test. Just to cover their asses. And the state of New Mexico aided and abetted what should have been criminal negligence. Health care in the United States is a raving shit show and the Republicans are about to make it 100 times worse.
Well that's par for the course for women. Our pain is always dismissed.
In August, I moved from New Mexico to Ohio to receive better healthcare. I had a heart attack in October and triple bypass surgery in January. I just had hiatal hernia surgery. While in NM my PCP told me to just "Push it down." I would probably be dead if I'd stayed in NM.
They blame Trump, but he is a symptom, not the disease. When money is more important than everything else, things fall apart. Americans have worshipped dollar bills for a long time.
@repstansbury.bsky.social
Repulsive and reprehensible
Thank you for sharing this important story. Medical care for women and people of color is notoriously poor quality, and especially in obstetrics. There is a lot of neglect and abuse.
Without insures the doctor has the right to kill you...and your baby. HEALTHCARE FOR ALL!!!
Must be a man running things as usual
I met plenty of money-grubbing, heartless women in healthcare...
We are all under a national death cult.
I'm not a supporter of for-profit medicine in any form whatsoever, but this feels more like the failure of the doctors and nurses at the hospitals involved. Arguably, the profiteers are intentionally hiring complicit staff, but that possibility seems remote.
Women get gaslit so much when it comes to medical care! I can’t tell you how many times I was ignored. I had mono in college that was so bad I couldn’t go to class but the Dr. said “you’re nothing but a hysterical female”. Continued
I gained 15 lbs in 2 weeks while training for a marathon (18 mile runs) and was told “calories in versus calories”, or “you have 4 kids that’s why you’re tired”, or “you’re in your 40’s, you must be going into menopause”. Continued
When I told my gyno that the IUD was giving me horrific, painful cystic acne I was told, it’s not the IUD”. Took meds for 4 yrs. I had it removed & my acne 100% went away & I lost 10 pounds in a week! Men have more heart attacks, but more women die from them because their symptoms are dismissed.
Morning sickness feels nothing like a heart attack. Malpractice.
@govmlg.bsky.social
That’s not a health service, it’s pure and utter negligence for profit!! Universal healthcare for all as in the whole of Europe!! 🇪🇺🇪🇺
All women in Europe, during and after pregnancy get FREE healthcare, regardless of income! 🇪🇺🇪🇺
This is more than a profit hospital issue. Too many doctors do not take certain persons seriously. I have had that happen twice. Lucky for me I’m a real BITCH who would not take ‘no’ for an answer.
Also Dr's now a days don't know what they're doing either
Healthcare in NM is dismal and almost non existent. Severe shortage of doctors and many providers and their support staff are poorly trained or under-educated.
When you’re pregnant everything you feel is dismissed. Medical misogyny kills women
My medical knowledge is from TV shows and even I know... Chestpain complaint and no No EKG. That's malpractice.
Women receive completely different treatment and bias in medicine. We don't even get anesthesia or meds for painful procedures because of a notion from centuries ago that we tolerate pain better.
