If we didn’t spend all our time watching sports, talking about sports, and venerating sports figures, Butker would be just another anti-female bigot who wouldn’t get asked to speak anywhere. “He plays sports” doesn’t qualify him to speak about anything, let alone at a university graduation.

He told young women who worked hard for their degree to stay home and raise children because his own wife is happy doing it. If he wanted to raise that issue he could have talked about the fact that women and their partners have options in today’s world.

My gripe is that the college had him speak *after* the women paid up their tuition. He should have been talking at the admissions office so that women knew their education is not part of the mission before they put $ and 4 years into it.

I can respect that he and his wife made this choice. What I cannot respect is the way it was presented - as though every couple should make this choice. It is a condescending and truly insulting way to speak to young people about to venture out into the adult world. Very inappropriate.

I find it difficult to *respect* their choice, but I can certainly accept it. People should live the way they want.

The part that gets me is that it how tone deaf it is financially isn't even a choice for most couples. Unless you have someone bringing in the kind of money pro athletes do it isn't really an option if it IS what they want.
