Evangelicals are raised in a religion that demands they acquiesce to an authoritarian. Whether it’s their father, their pastor, or their president — they are indoctrinated to submit.
Evangelicals are raised in a religion that demands they acquiesce to an authoritarian. Whether it’s their father, their pastor, or their president — they are indoctrinated to submit.
That same drive to dominate rather than cooperate, to push down rather than lift up, to subjugate via raw power, to demand submission, connects everything from the slaughter of Native Americans to toxic masculinity and abusers seeking positions of authority in the police force, military or churches
This is why the USA is NOT a Christian/religious nation! God is not in our Constitution and democracy is not a biblical value. #StopTheCoup
And to have unquestioning blind faith.
Exactly. A benefit of this is that they have absolutely no responsibility for any of their actions. It was god's will.
Same with mafia families.
It’s true for all of us to a degree. We’re taught that politicians and the elite are just better smarter and know what’s best for us and if we just let them have their way good things will eventually come to us. Seems like eventually is a really long time.
Does this explain MAGA females? Because I just don’t get them. And, why aren’t more women (whatever party) pissed off about losing our rights?
Exactly
Yes, yes it does. Authoritarian personalities and Narcissistic personalities are co-dependent.
Interesting
Remember, these are not women in their natural state. These are women that have been brainwashed from birth. They are Mental slaves trained to reinforce their own mind forged man every single day.
What could go wrong?
Retired clergy here … (also an anti-religion atheist at this point) and this post hits a truly key point in the role that religion plays in our culture. Not unlike public schools, churches function to help us understand and follow the norms. Of course “not all”, but looking at the overall…
It's why I quit church, not my religion.
Christians In Name Only
I'm partial to 'Talibangelicals'
Agreed. Been saying this for ages!
Been sayin'!
Also submitting to the will of God, who is possibly fictional.
White Jesus never existed.
Indoctrinated Ignorance is a curse on humanity.
The four stages of Authoritarian Bullshit. Authoritarian God Authoritarian Beliefs Authoritarian Dictator. Authoritarian Endgame. The End
They’re raised in a religion that teaches them to thirst for absolution. Hardly surprising many will follow a person who assures them that they’re always right and never to blame for anything.
And not to question!! No critical thinking from to start.
Or perhaps to the Rule of Law???
They're taught not to question that authority, which causes some cognitive impairment in the ability to question authority in general. Had this discussion with a professor of cognitive development as an undergrad.
True, but that doesn’t give them a pass.
Yuck.
You are absolutely right.
Yeah that’s why joining the MAGA cult was so smooth for them. They were already broken in.
Right. Another way of saying it is that they were "primed" with a mindset ready to be taken advantage of.
YES!!! (And I say that emphatically because it's true, not because I believe that philosophy.)
Unfortunately, I think this is sort of true. Hate can be pulled from the Bible and the true message can be lost to many, which seems to be what is happening. Newer Christians are most at risk; they lack solid understanding and take the advice of leaders more to heart and at face value.
Happened to a family member. Was never really in Church, but got married and went straight into Evangelicalism. Been lost ever since.
Sometimes it takes a while for them to recognize the gaslighting and see the light.
It took me 3 years. I went from a smaller Baptist Church to a Mega Church when I got a divorce. When I got remarried and had kids, I started hearing things that I didn't agree with, especially in 2016/17. Talk to my wife, and we were gone.
There is so much research to support this
These halfwits are not "Evangelical" they're fucking idiots whom have never opened a bible in their lives.
I’m currently listening to this audiobook. I’ve had a hard tme getting my head around how evangelicals can support someone as vile as Trump. This book explains a lot.✌️🙏✌️ www.goodreads.com/book/show/20...

Exactly 👍😡
Truer words never spoken
Yes 👏🏼
This is why Trump is supporting religion.
Their religion is that god himself tells them what's right - and because they are so apparently intimate in their relationship with God, what THEY want is always what HE wants. Seriously, it's more f**ked up than people think.
That’s a very interesting comment. I’ve never thought about the “personal relationship” with God in quite this way. Great observation.
I grew up in the cultish church that spawned both the Children of God and the Branch Davidians, and I testify to this comment.
I grew up in the 1960’s in a fundamentalist Baptist Church. They used to have church meetings to discuss how they would dismiss church immediately should a person of color ever seek to attend. (Spoiler: No person of color ever wanted to.) Many times I heard about how “God ordained race separation.”
Not to Evil. That's why so many are leaving churches on all levels. They don't feel the presence of God over the presence of EGO. God doesn't "submit" to them. And God can be found beyond those man made walls with man-made rules. In Ezekiel 34 God tells the Clergy he will shephard the flock himself
Exactly! I’m tired of hearing that Republicans are better at messaging. No! When your audience is preconditioned to believe/follow whatever the “father-figure” says, it doesn’t matter what the message is. Liberals, by nature, question authority.
Yup. Lemmings. That’s why there’s no separation between church and state for them.
Picture 74M lemmings run off a cliff wall ... that's what happened in the last election. The lemmings call themselves MAGA ... the Christian nationalist church is their state - how about the $ of eggs "on day one." 😉
This is a cult not a religion. All the major religions of the world have some form of the Christian love your neighbor as yourself. Not these people. They are not Christians no matter what they believe.
Ugh
And it's based on fear so it is difficult to eradicate.
Yeah, and that always works out well!
Well, it does for the autocrats!
Children were raised to obey them and can’t imagine leaving them. When they do, they will be free.
And to believe outrageous falsehoods.
And that's why they're republicans. republicans want to be ruled by a daddy figure. republicans cannot not handle an existence where tgey have to make decisions of their iwn and coexist with everyone else making decisions of tgeir ien. republicans are failures as sentient thinking human beings
🙌🏼 this!
…and this is what they want to teach in the schools. Generations of mindless automatons will be the result. It’s just what they need to remain in control forever.
And indoctrinated to give the ultra-wealthy authoritarian their hard-earned, not even making ends meet money… and feel good about it.
Or the god they call Father.
Catholics too. Patriarchy with an ultimate leader at the top.
Why can’t they just submit to people smarter than they are? Do we need to be more forceful pointing out their ineptitude? Asking for everyone 💁♂️
No, if what the authoritarian says makes sense and is fully borne out by reality, it’s not true submission. It’s not true submission unless you obviously disagree with at least one thing they say because that’s fucking stupid BUT they’re the authority figure so they’re right.
May I add: submit without question.
Religion is based on coercive control, which is abuse.
Yes, it's based on using fear for that control. The fear/benevolence manipulation can be seen in all areas where there's a pyramidal power structure. It's not unlike (might be identical) to Stockholm Syndrome.
They're syetems of population manipulation and control. Without indoctrination, religion would cease to exist in about 2 generations, and it wouldn't come back.
Maybe, but maybe not. There are still tribes of people who have no contact with the outside world and we know little about them. Do they have faith in a diety? If so, we're not likely to reach them easily, but who knows? No religion would be an actual blessing 😉
Truth.
Then the wives submit to their men.
That's not how it's supposed to work.
This does not come from GOD. This comes from weak white men.
Pretty much every religion does this. It requires you to have faith (defined as the absence of any evidence) and imposes a special person to interpret words (until they don't mean what they say) to tell you what to do. Every single one.
It's all religions. They're all white male patriarchy.
💯🎯🎯🎯👌
Damn! So true.
It’s why so many evangelical ‘pastors’ end up in jail for abuse.
My half-sisters are evangelicals, and this is 100% spot on.
Catholicism is all about literal begging and groveling to get what you want from the almighty. And if you do anything wrong, no matter how heinous, you just tell the man, say a couple of praising poems and you are free to do it all over again! No guilt, no repercussions.
When I look back at anything that reflects a patriarchy - which is almost everything! - they all seem to end in failure, collapse, war, disaster and uprising against them. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Completely true.
Several years ago, when I was in a bad situation, I looked into an Evangelical church in my neighborhood. That lasted less than two weeks.
That is what makes them more susceptible to joining a cult. Now, they're in the biggest cult (outside of religion) of all time.
its infantilization... you must submit to the big Daddy in the sky..
Very well said.
My demarcation with Bible Thumpers is “Chapter and verse” and where in the Bible it is. Usually that befuddles them and then they refer back to their pastor said. Which is fine, but where in the Bible is their point based on. Essentially, they have a Bible, but don’t know it. Gullible fools.
Evangelicals are raised in a religion that demands they acquiesce to an authoritarian. Whether it’s their father, their pastor, or their president — they are indoctrinated to submit. --- That gang is going totally against the Evangelium (Gospel), the core of the New Testament. Anti Christ in all.
We had an HR director who was a Mormon pastor and holy moly was he misogynistic! I will never forget the day he told me “I didn’t have the authority to question him” when he was breaking company policy even though I’m in payroll. And the reason for it was because his team screwed up big time.
Most religions rely heavily on sheep.
They bastardize Christianity and routinely commit blasphemy, so Fuck Evangelicals. A cancer on Christianity
Evangelibans
Which makes them perfect Republicans
Pretty sad! So then I guess you are not responsible for your own behavior.
"Don't concern yourself over this veil of tears. Your reward awaits in Heaven." Sounds to me like a death cult.
Have you seen the vertical morality videos by @iblamebill on tiktok? Super fascinating.
Truly disgusting. Keep it in your own churches and homes, bobble-heads. 🤨
This is very true... about these Talibangelicals.
I was raised Evangelical - it is based on fear. I got out when I went to college.
They were all about submitting to authority until Obama was inaugurated.
Yup! No more talk of Romans 13:1* for them! What could it be about that kind, faithful, compassionate man that they thought wasn't "of God"? * “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.”
They turned on a dime, en masse, and started quoting Psalms 109:8; they even put it on bumper stickers until there were articles explaining to outsiders what they meant. In those days they still had just enough shame to hide it under a bushel. Ahem. www.politico.com/story/2016/0...
Wow! I'm Canadian, so I missed that! Talk about two-faced! Thanks for the article link. So, I say to Perdue, here are some random verses for you: "Judas hung himself." "Jesus said: Go and do likewise." Yeesh!
Did you know that 1 out of 4 Americans think (their) god determines the outcome of the Super Bowl? Presumably these are the same 1/4 of Americans who think Obama is the antichrist, but I don't think anybody ever did a proper cross-tabulation survey, on that. www.theguardian.com/world/2013/a...
I have to laugh... or I'll cry.
And there is the big difference: we may call DJT the Antichrist, but as analogy. There's nothing supernatural about him. Just a hateful, disgusting, foolish megalomaniac who chooses to do evil things.
There's an interesting discussion in this TED talk about the ability to entertain the hypothetical. Related to this, I've noticed many people are surprisingly literal; they have an demonstrated ability to entertain the hypothetical, but generally speaking, they don't. www.ted.com/talks/james_...
Right
Which is why they are happy to support a dictator who says the right thing to get their backing. Its all about the daddy
When you’re trained not to think for your self, you have to get your thoughts from somewhere.
It's such a hard concept to process when earlier religions actually specify that a person is allowed to question their God and open the floor to debate. Even early Christianity has done this.
. . .The greatest of these is love. . . Love your neighbor as yourself. Love your enemies. . . . . . if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. I would posit it isn't the religion, it is the institution.
Yup. The purpose of religion is to train people to believe the absurd. Makes em easy to control.
No hate like Christian Love
The perfect zombies for the apocalypse.
You nailed that one. fun. If you look closely at the indoctrination methods used on children, you could easily deem many Calvinist types are in a cult. That really large cult wealds a fascistic political control system which makes actual political fascism desirable. Enter Dumbulb.
100% true, I thankfully escaped that life 26 years ago and never looked back.
Ever wonder why the south goes along with Trump’s politics and EO’s. It’s because of this. The indoctrination is their religious foundation.
They are groomed into it.
Yep. I've gotten the submission speech A LOT. THAT was fun. Anyway, that's why I, myself, am not a huge fan of religion. It's fine for you, if that's what YOU want, and you aren't hurting anyone OR YOURSELF. Also, true believers don't use their Bible as a club to beat folks with....☕️🐸
Except they do. They have for 15 centuries. History is full of it.
When I say "true believer," I mean someone who walks the walk and talks the talk, not for show and not for power. Rare, I know. Religion is an excuse for a power grab mostly. I'm not fond of the "you need middle men to deal with your faith," and definitely not the "Joel Osteen" types. I know how it
sounds. My belief is that a person's faith is PERSONAL. Fully aware that reality is different. I grew up with religion. Getting out of it, I believe, made me a better person. Really.... My belief is simply, "Don't be a dick." I can't change history, but I can choose NOT to continue the BS
religious types did for all those centuries. I'm one person, and that won't mean a whole hell of a lot in the grand scheme... but if I can make ONE person see their value, encourage ONE person, be a safe place for them to be themselves and live their life, I think I've done alright. I can't fix ALL
the religious/self righteous folks. I CAN try to A. Remind them that they're just as sinful or whatever as the rest of us. B. Remind them of what the Word says/what expectation is held and C. Stand with the folks wronged by the self righteous. Sure, religion has corrupted for centuries, but I don't
have to continue that trend. Sorry.... That was WAY longer than I intended.
Believer… walk the walk… How are the two related? Does one need to believe things that aren’t true to walk a righteous path? It seems that not asking questions has led to centuries of misery. What problem has “faith” ever solved? Believing anything without reason is dangerous. Always.
A believer doesn't cherry pick and try to beat others down. The actually try to live by example, and acknowledge that they are not perfect. That is "walking the walk." There are plenty enough who believe in something bigger than themselves. Faith isn't ALL bad. Again, as a PERSONAL choice.
Asking questions IS important. Unfortunately, the penalty for asking questions back in the day WAS punishable by death. I respectfully disagree about believing without reason as being dangerous always. Hope can be found in the darkest of places. THAT isn't always dangerous. When there's no logical
solution, hope keeps folks going. I think pride/thinking that YOUR way is the ONLY way is where there's trouble. RELIGION sees that as their power play (being THE faith to follow). Real faith isn't about power (again, it SHOULDN'T be). I believe in ideals, but reality shits on ideals, in short.
Your concepts of hope and faith confuse me. Believing something true without reason, faith, is always dangerous. It’s not “hope”. It’s lying. Or it would be called hope.
This is true. I was raised in a Lutheran household and you did not question. Anything.
And it is DAMN hard to break out of that cycle. Especially as a woman.
In other words, men!
Well, yes? Because priests/ monks tend to take more power than priestess/ nuns in any religion!
Power to the Penis!
Actually: I believe that if we can re-create the cloning experiment in "Y - the last man" we don't need penises anymore.
LOL, or how many men do we actually need, anyway? 1/10 women? that would still be enough for 'diversity'. Maybe ship them around the world to make sure. Keep tight pedigrees. then of course, we could choose the best physical traits. Tall and strong - and young enough to perform. & some variety!
And you'll go to Hell if you don't have "faith". i.e. don't ask questions! Submit!
No thanks. I bucked that off in childhood.
Which explains the high rate of child sexual abuse and domestic abuse among pastors. Time to teach critical thinking in schools instead of religion.
Sure, just look at "pool boy" Jerry Fawell Jr.
👋👋👋 No more truthful words were ever spoken. Yes sadly it is all about control through fear.
And the aim of Project 2025 is to indoctrinate all Americans with propaganda imposing white male dominance in society and male dominance in family. It’s all there, and called “Fundamentalist Christian”values. They want to take the country back to pre-Civil Rights, increase poverty and ignorance.
Pathetic
Whereas we Pagans roam freely! Hail Hekate!
Not very strong! Pretty weak
So much hypocracy. In this really interesting CBC radio show on climate & religion it is mentioned that only 40% of evangelicals attend church. And there is ample evidence in the Bible re our obligation for stewardship. I.e.'ideology' drives them, not religion. 😪 pca.st/episode/3ad3...
Yup. It teaching women to be submissive and have no will to lead. It builds women in as born to serve and they go along with it often. I know someone that didn't vote for her because 1 - they left the vote to God, whatever that means, 2 - Women shouldn't lead.
Christ that’s dark.
It's sad and true. Sorry.
Yeah it’s hard to believe if you haven’t experienced it I suppose. I cannot imagine raising my daughters that way. Or my son for that matter.
I can see that. It's wild. I've seen stuff like this my entire life. I'm in Alabama. When Roe overturned, my mother told me to keep the hypothetical rapist's baby, it was more important than me. I even have a relative that said 'they can't hate' because 'Jesus won't let them'. It was said hatefully.
I grew up in it too. I felt leaving and moving away was escaping a cult and that was so many years ago. I cut contact, tried low contact, then cut it again. Having this happen on a large scale is traumatizing on a new level.
I deconstructed at 14. I have trauma and couldn't deal with the hypocrites anymore. I didn't want to be like the people around me, trauma related, and that meant walking way from hypocrites because hypocrites are liars.
I'm with you. I deconstructed young, as well. Being autistic kind of forces it. I couldn't reconcile what I was being told or their teachings with their actions. There was a lot of trauma, as well, as there often is. It enables abusers. I left home at 17.
It does feel like escaping. I have described leavving my parents' home for the first time as escaping. Like being in jail. I left at 19 over money. I am glad your still here. I almost wasn't. It is a very dysfunctional system.
Also in Alabama, but as a California transplant heheh. I'm deep south and it's definitely a whole different culture here as it relates to the views on women. Yikes.
Yeah. Me and some buddies of mine from down here have been more openly talking about life down here. I didn't realize how many people didn't know, but of course they didn't. There are legit areas here where there's nothing but Repubs on the ballots. We're badly jerrymandered.
Father, pastor, president... or their imaginary friend who lives beyond the clouds.
I am a Christian, and I don't submit to any of these people and I never will. I believe in church in the streets and church in your heart 🦋 They would have and indeed did, crucify the Christ I follow. And by their fruits you know them. They are not followers.
I've been saying this for years. A lot of religious people have been conditioned since birth to submit to authority figures which makes them prime targets for would-be authoritarians. Any religion that punishes critical thinking is not to be trusted.
That makes sense as to why the submission to MAGA Trump is so overwhelming
May I translate Evangelicals are so stupid they believe a 2000 year-old conspiracy theory comic book and give their hard earned money to Conman to buy insurance on an afterlife. Evangelicals are dangerously stupid.
UGH.
Truth. This is why they are so threatened by universities where critical thinking is mandatory for success.
Been following Mr. #DaranteLamar a while on yootoob. Same sentiment from a former pentecostal pastor. We need people to realize this now more than ever.
But God gave them a brain? I can’t offer too much sympathy as they disguise their horrible behavior because of their “religion.” 🤮🔥💙
Americans are brainwashed into various beliefs from early childhood, and not just religious ones. It's one of the reasons they are so easily drawn into cults, movements and mass gatherings. Don't say it's a brain thing. It's a programming thing. Few are free thinkers regarding any matter.
Youre right-it’s complicated. It is a programming thing for sure. But our fully mature brains are capable of getting us out of cults or never letting us fall into their clutches.
From early childhood we are daily saying the pledge of allegiance, to the point it habit. 1000 times and it's yours. How easy would it be then at any point to never acknowledge it when others say it? to not join in repeating it? to make no reaction, not even a flinch when we hear it? Same thing.
Whenever someone reveals they are Evangelical I instantly put that person down as untrustworthy. What it tells me is their belief in fairy tales supersede all logic and reason.
Yeah. No one who believes in god can be trusted, they have fundamentally separated themselves from reality. But evangelicals in particular believe that one of the most valuable things they can do on Earth is convert people to their cult. They'll fake humanity and love for as long as it takes.
I have made this very point.
And to pay to that authoritarian..... even when they cannot afford it🤢
Karl Marx was right about religion being the opiate of the people. In the US it's more like the fentanyl of the people.
Spent the weekend watching YouTube videos about Christian Cults/Televangelists and Maga Churches.🤮 These people believing is this shit are the reason you now have Trump😡
Believing that magic is real twists ones thinking? Who would have ever guessed?
It’s easy to be told what’s right. It’s a lot harder to actually do it. The “others” are wrong. They’re to blame for social ills. Adherents don’t develop personal accountability for their own moral compasses. That takes social awareness, inner knowledge & guts. A lot of people lack those.
Makes sense
Exactly! I remember as a child singing the words to the song “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” Explains a lot.
those songs don't care that I am decades away from hearing them, it is like hobby lobby muzak in my head when the religious right acts up. I sing that particular one in zombie mumbles. 🧟♀️"truuuuust. obeyyyyyy. no otherrrrrr waaaay ..." 🍽 🧠
My kids wouldn’t even submit to me to take the garbage out.
A patriarchal authoritarian
They're in a cult.
Evangelical Christianity is as dangerous as Oxy and fentanyl. “Religion is the opiate of the people”. Aren’t there laws designed to punish people who supply drugs to children?
Scary and fucked up to me.
Ah yes, land of the free, home of the brave...
Another example of how evangelicalism has twisted the Gospels
that explains why so many submissive evangelical men approach me…. the system creates either power hungry monsters or submissive drones
And our brains are different. amarkfoundation.org/reports/how-...
It's why I don't speak to many in my family anymore!
That is too creepy.
What did he say?
The devil working in plain sight, doesn't even bother hiding any more.
That man's eyes, he's completely evil. I have that video. I'd have to look for it.
Exactly what I thought.
He's not a good man.
Christianity is a death cult. Always was. It's designed for people who long to be subjugated and demonizes people who question their authority.
Don’t paint us all with the same brush. Mediterranean Christianity is about the beauty of belonging. Hence our priests wear a plan robe, often with a simple rope for a belt. And preach in small chapels hundreds years old. And yours arrive in helicopters from their mansions to televised stadiums.
American xtianity is a whole different thing.
100%
And to believe all sorts of crazy shit from the Bible interpreted by lunatics of some kind or another
Not all egangelicals
Most.
Probably .
It's so ironic because Jesus was so anti-authoritarian and was killed by them.
He was killed by a Roman cop, but the evangelicals would rather focus on the fact that Judas was Jewish. 😒
They either can’t see it or refuse to see it!
They talk a lot about Jesus, but they really lean into the vengeful Old Testament God to inspire the fear that keeps everyone in line. Most of the people I knew in those churches lived in abject fear they'd burn in He11, often with their pastor telling them why they would. They cling to salvation.
How better to control people than to create an ever seeing eye judging every breach of the rules? Guilt & fear control individuals much more efficiently than force.
Religion has been used as a means of control more than as a way of lifting people up throughout history. It's just too easy to control brainwashed people. In a world built on exploitation, the greedy and powerful will use the tools at hand to exploit people and religion has always been handy.
I grew up in an evangelical church in the UK. One of the reasons I became an atheist was that we studied the Old Testament in Bible College (yea I went that far) and I remember thinking "wow this is all very grim and....immoral" 😬😬
Does their religion allow for the possibility of abusers, cheaters, criminals, liars, idiots etc? Because it's just stupid to follow someone without question or consideration of their motives or abilities.
MALE authoritarians
You forgot "husband".
No wonder why I despise them to the core..
Oooooooooo you’re spitting bars today
The patriarchy IS a cult.
A death cult
AKA a Cult
Remove the authority of the ‘authority’—-cuts off the head of the snake
Not just Evangelicals. Descipleship is submission. Islam means submission.
True
I will not obey.
Again, religion is the worst thing ever invented
To a certain level, agree. Authoritarianism is understandable when it comes to God if you're a believer, but, Evangelicals, have lost the deeper understanding of who Jesus was & is, & what he expressed about the Law. They've forgotten that "No one can keep the law".
I grew up in the South and in a strict Southern Baptist home It is a life of hypocrisy and total patriarchy. I left the church early on after all the things I saw and a couple of personal experiences. It still took me a few years to totally recover from all the things that were pushed on the people
I personally think that many of these fundamentalist “beliefs” set people up early on to fall for conspiracy theories. I don’t want to offend anyone here…but I believe that the Rapture, God miraculously healing people, etc., unquestioning belief in patriarchy predisposes beliefs in the supernatural.
Absolutely! How convenient to have huge groups of people convincing each other that they don't need facts in order to believe in things. I always found it suspicious. Along with the vacant stares of people who only know one answer - it's magic!
Absolutely! That’s why “Daddy’s home” got so much traction during the election.
It's 🤢
Off topic but this dude knows how to play a creep better than anyone. Don’t get me wrong, mad respect 😆
They’re also raised to accept whatever they’re told by their church without questioning anything, no matter how outlandish and unbelievable. It removes critical thinking from the equation.
Yes. Those who can convince you of absurdities can get you to commit atrocities.
And that's why religion sucks.
Or gawd the father supreme invisible being & master
Or their husband or their boss
They want to be ruled. Loki said it best in the first avengers. They really just need to walk themselves off in Montana and Idaho. Give them that land on the condition that they never get to leave. Ever. For 100 generations.
Yes, ans that is what cheetolini is counting on obedience!!
The large majority of religions are authoritarian and misogynistic. Religion should've died out a century ago.
Indeed it has increased their death rate so much they are responsible for lowering the United States life expectancy so far that the CIA ranks us 49th in country life expectancy. I am working on a precise measure.
The language of slavery, the sheep metaphor, the Romans must have found it terribly convenient.
So why do much hate and resistance to Obama and Biden? Evangelicals are raised to USE acquiescence to an authoritarian as an excuse for their own shitty behavior.
Exactly. 🎯🎯🎯 No wonder the fascist far right courts them.
That is: not Christianity.
Fascist billionaires, foreign despots...
Interestingly, the same is true of Conservatives. This is how you can have Trump throwing childish insults at his rivals, and them saying he is unfit to govern... and then once he wins they all fall in line and pretend he is a great man, ignore everything he and they said before.
Agreed! When we hear the phrase "Family Values," that is code for - obedience to a Dominating Father. It's all based on reward and punishment in this life or one imagined after. I wish they would have worked that out that fantasy in a consensual #kink dungeon rather than impose it upon us all.
Bingo, Jess. Bingo.
Like lambs to the slaughter….contradicting all the tenets and teachings of Jesus.
Apparently following Jesus isn’t part of their faith, is it? They believe the church leaders interpretation of the word rather than the true word.
Following Jesus does not support their interests of supremacy and control.
Exactly.
Name one religion which does not demand the same.
Congregationalism
Oh everyone should check out the podcast Straight White American Jesus. Brad Onishi hosts and has a series called it's in the code that goes over this very well. Interesting listens for those not involved and for those who want to ask questions.
True. Basically, religion does to believers the same thing that happens to people in cults. There's virtually no difference, they are both "programmed" to believe, follow & react w/o thinking.
I thinking you stopped just short. Nudge. Religion = Cult.
The generational use of corporal punishment continues. ☹️
All Religion is indoctrination. And none of them are right.
Yet, if we follow the Bible, we know to resist devil; to stand; to choose who we will serve.
Exodus didn't happen. Noah wasn't real. Neither Jonah or Moses. There was no garden. Your new bits were written by paid Greek fabulists. Sorry, but you don't know shit, brother.
I studied the Bible in faith for years, with homiletics, and was raised in the church my entire life. After all that, I looked around one day and realized that it was bullshit. I have never felt more sure about my beliefs than I do now.
Common theme among the atheists I know. Believers like to think we all suffered some tragic abuse or are possessed by demons, but most of us just looked a little harder and came to the natural conclusion that it's bullshit. Worse, it's lies, stolen myths, and fraud perpetrated on billions.
Exactly. We don’t all have some backstory that makes us angry at god and deep down, if we get past it, we’ll rush to our knees and repent our foolishness and disbelief. They all think we’re just a hug and good talking to away from salvation. And a crown in glory for them. Hallelujah.
And these figures always grant themselves the “right” to disobey any authority they wish in “obedience” to their god.
Thank god I was raised Unitarian. Their motto: “we don’t have to think alike to walk together.” We met people of different faiths in Sunday school. Many claimed theirs was the only true religion: all others were going to hell. But each had some good, too. Teach your kids to think for themselves!
Can we apply that to Trump resistance here, please? We don’t all think alike. But anyone who opposes Trump is a friend and ally. We can have friendly arguments among ourselves when our democracy is safe again.
I know. But I mean, David Brooks? Bill Kristol? Sigh. I will do my best.
I feel your pain.
The only thing to be gained from fealty is bloody knees.
I work with a guy who is married to an evangelical. I guess that makes him one too. They are in church every Sunday. At work, if something happens that is unfair to him, after I point it out, his response is “I just do what I’m told”. This mentality is an easy target for dictators. Like a door mat.
It’s the only way they can feel safe and comfortable. Thinking and deciding for themselves terrifies them.
Well that explains an awful lot, doesn't it?
Passivity is coupled with an inability to question or think for themselves. Isn't that part of the definition of a cult?
This is where people like me, who don’t like being told what to do, get to use our superpower.
Yes, a father figure features large in their lives. It’s use,to teach respect and humility toward community, yet it can be used to manipulate people into beliefs that drive ghastly actions towards “others.” This was a feature, not a bug when the Christian Bible, like other texts were radicalized
And this is what they want to do to children in public schools now. No doubt this bogus SCOTUS will rule against the Constitution again.
Honor thy father can only go do far!!
Very true. Explains a lot.
This is why they use the word INDOCTRINATION so freely when accusing the Democrats.
This makes things so much more obvious now.
