The price of 1 lb of ground beef is now higher than the federal minimum hourly wage…
The price of 1 lb of ground beef is now higher than the federal minimum hourly wage…
Someone working for minimum wage in Iowa would need to put two hours of work to make meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and gravy for their family.
And Iowa’s (and Nebraska’s) GDP is down 6%.
And this is so ridiculous but so true. 😢
That’s if you have a kitchen… and the food doesn’t cook itself, you have to pay to turn appliances on. I find it more instructive to compare fast food prices to minimum wage. If you work a minimum wage job that’s all you have time for, and you DO think about how many hours of labor you are eating.
One thing a lot of people don’t factor in, unless they’ve had to start over in life, is the cost of condiments & spices, etc… You wouldn’t cook a meatloaf without onion powder, an egg, ketchup, or breadcrumbs. You wouldn’t cook broccoli without an oil or butter…salt?!? Would you? Could you?
I definitely think about it. Some I’m able to grow. I bought some cheap spices from the dollar store (where everything is more than a dollar now) and regretted it. So figure about $20-30 to stock a kitchen.
However, I do eat broccoli and many other vegetables without any butter, salt, or dressing.
You’re lucky you have a place to grow these things… Not everyone does.
Well, I said “some…” it’s a pot on the patio. But you’re right… like I said, some don’t have a kitchen.
I wish none of us had to worry about that ☹️🧡
Is Meatloaf really Meatloaf without an egg, salt, onion of some sort, ketchup….Or is it just beef?
Great messaging. I think we (people who care) need to start printing cards with concise facts/gut punches like this and leave them in public bathrooms, store shelves…
Thanks to the Trump Tariff Taxes on the American people.
If you go back to trump’s early statements, he stated that he only wanted beef to be affordable for the wealthy
That's just insane. 😓
person in Iowa can replace this worker 👇 bsky.app/profile/ufw....
And this ignores the fact they get taxed heavily and do not bring home minimum wage per hour. So it’s even worse.
And that’s before they 1) pay taxes on the income they made, and 2) pay sales taxes on the food they bought. In reality, they’d have to work for ~3 hours to make one family dinner* (no dessert, no drinks, no leftovers). *I added some broccoli to the price of the meal.
Not to mention half of the money from that 3 hours must be set aside for permission to sleep inside so better make it 6. It’ll be 8 unless you can walk to work. 8 hours a day for one person to break even. Gas electric and water extra in most cases.
Taxes, withholding, employees benefits deductions...it takes more than that in hours if we talk about the hours to take home thay pay, not just earn it...
Unless their payroll taxes and company health insurance plan premiums are factored in; then they have to work four hours...
I want folks to really think about that this means that 1/2 all worked hours would be to feed their family dinner. What are we doing.
When we’re looking at paycheck-to-paycheck wage workers, odds are better than not they are not getting health insurance thru their job.
Does that take into consideration taxes on that two hours?
That's crazy!
That would be one meal. 😞
Take that a step further ... families used to be able to have someone who could take care of the home and spend two hours making meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and gravy for no wages. Also, AL, LA, MS, SC, and TN have no state minimum wage. GA, OK, and WY are below the Fed $7.25 rate.
Just to be clear, I was referring to a stay at home mom or stay at home dad, not slavery. Though, most of those states with sub-Federal or no minimum wage do seem to have something in common ...
That’s sad. 😢
I think it’s their attempt to get the End Times back on track to where you would have to work an entire day to earn a loaf of bread that you still had to make from scratch when you got home.
Hopefully not , that’s no way live.
Not their problem🤷♂️ they’ll call it “survival of the fittest” by letting the fed min wage to languish for 16 years, adj for inflation it’s worth less than the pittance that gave rise to the Fed Min Wage Act. In the 1930s. Taking away vaccines and healthcare, SS, they want us to go die already.
You know what to do … general strike
Absolutely. I mean, I wondered why we didn’t do it 20 years ago when I thought of it, but we didn’t have the tech to really get out there all together. Maybe this time we can really do it.
🙏🙏🙏🙏 You won‘t know until you try it.
You’re probably right !
They’ve been telling us for years. Trump had a speech his first term where he spoke of people working 2-3 jobs like it was an accomplishment, their replacement for ACA is “everyone dies, maybe you didn’t deserve healthcare anyway” Mitch said Kentuckians would “get over” losing Medicaid and SNAP.
Also don’t forget the massive amounts of pesticides and crap in all the food etc..So also working $ss off to get food that ultimately makes you sick. again- they don’t care because they can afford the organic food and they don’t care if people get sick and die. They think they won’t have the blame
And more than that because you need to pay for the stove, pots and pans, your electrical bill, your rent, transport to work and the grocery store, water and sewage bill...
Yes, this is true. I was on vacation in Colorado last week and spent $9.25 per pound for ground beef at a local grocery store. 😳
Brasil was one of USA's best suppliers of meat (and coffee) and both of these will pay 50% tariffs there in the USA starting tomorrow. Because the 🍊💩 wants to save 🤡💩 from being prosecuted after he tried a coup d'etat that included killing the president & vice elected & supreme court ministers. So 🤷🏻
#MinWage So a minimum wage earner would have to work a full day before income and FICA taxes for one week’s worth of #beef protein for a family of 4, assuming 4 oz servings. Not a #SNAP
One hour work cant buy 1 pound of ground beef.
a year ago, this would have been the lead story everywhere. Seems like the price of eggs was absolutely to only think we needed to know about back then.
THIS is the billboard Dems should put in every major city (ies) across the US and in every town hall and during every news conference.
Try one small steak
And just about all other necessary groceries. This isn’t just about eggs anymore.
Soon the people flipping burgers won’t even be able to buy one.
Tells ya who’s living above the poverty line and who’s not.
That really, really puts this economy into the correct perspective.
Try and buy some toilet paper
Aldi's TP not bad yet.
There are bidet attachments sold pretty much everywhere. I have reduced my TP use over the past 10 monumentally. The attachments are typically less than $35 and VERY easy to install.
Just went to get meat for tacos and it ruined my day. This orange abomination is destroying everything
6.49 for 80/20 as of today, and that was comparison shopping.
Work an hour, get a burger.
It’s running about 6.99 to 8.00 per pound where I live. The 6.99 price is the sale price for 85%/15% conventional ground beef. it’s going to get worse with cattle feed frequently imported from Canada & costs more to feed cattle. That ontop of everything else going up. We can’t keep going like this.🤦♀️
how much are ranchers getting a pound?
Surprise 💫
I haven't bought hamburger for years because I trade fresh fish for all my red meat. So after boat fuel, tackle, insurance, mooring fees, maintenance, etc., my average cost for ground beef is probably about $200 per pound.
Right! Its insane!
Society is not sustainable under these conditions.
Meat, beans, oils and all mass produced crops will be lacking and hard to come by in the near future years thanks to humanity’s unwillingness to remove fossil fuels from their lives.
& ICE
Thanks republicans appreciate your support.
Tofu. I stopped using meat ages ago - fresh is too expensive and I dislike the risk of disease from improper cooking, canned is too salty/preservative-y. I use tofu. It's cheaper, highly versatile as it has no flavour of its own and can be seasoned for any dish, keeps longer, and is cheaper. +
+ I recommend Super Firm tofu. The firmer, the better the texture. I mash it with a potato masher and the texture becomes something like ground beef, except a little lighter and softer.
It’s nice that you enjoy tofu but don’t expect this to only impact beef. It’s going to impact the entire ag industry which supplies the soybeans. It’s also affecting wages meaning any diet will be impacted. Project 2025 is about eugenics and social Darwinism.
Yes, I know... though I imagine tofu will essentially always be cheaper than beef. Even if it become as expensive as beef is now...
There are more increases to come, the effects of labor losses due to ICE are still ongoing
Several grocery shoppers gathered at meat counter, marveling at the price of beef. I didn’t want a pet, just a piece!
How long before Dear Leader decrees his cult members must now become vegan.
In 793 ce only the wealthy ate meat. I think returning to this kind of society is part of thd Republucans Project 2025. 😏
…. the underlying story is that the economy is struggling,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics. WA PO Abha Bhattarai
Next; the promise of a " Chicken in every pot" Circa 1920's amurica.. translation not every pot owner could afford a chicken.. in the 1920's.. beef didn't really come on the scene until after WWII.. we Know have less cattle than we did in 1953, when our population was 1/2 today.. the good old days
It’s tofu time. youtube.com/playlist?lis...
In 1968, the federal minimum wage of $1.60 would buy 4-1/2 lbs of ground beef at my local meat market that had regular sales of 3 lbs/dollar. It would also buy 5 gallons of gas. Our mortgage was $55/month.
in the mid 60s my mother fed a family of six on $45/week and we ate very well with meat at every meal...I would fill up my VW for $2...$.25/gallon...cigarettes were $.25/pack too
I know this isn't the point of your post, but wouldn't it be wonderful if this fact encouraged people to try some of millions of healthier alternatives to eating ground beef?
It won't matter. It will also hit vegans and vegetarian diets also.
You mean like beans, lentils etc. eating staples maintains health without hitting the budget, especially if bought in bulk.
I'm not sure why some of y'all aren't grasping what's going on. They're trying to purposefully create food insecurity and it's tied to eugenics. If there are not enough jobs, food of all types are severely restricted and safety nets are gone, it won't matter if it's a plant-based diet or not.
Job security is threatened by taxing imports so much that jobs are threatened.
It's also about the food supply chain. So ALL it is hitting it. It won't matter if you're on a plant based diet or not.
I'm saying the resources to breed animals plus the crops they eat plus the crops for humans can be replaced with just crops for humans. Far far less resources required. But, yes if there aren't resources enough to feed just the humans then this planet is dead duck
You are not American lol. The topic is what's going on in AMERICA.
So put that together with everything else. It's about eugenics.
Food insecurity is caused by rearing animals that eat the food that should be grown for humans, and then they get killed anyway. The maths is very clear on this.
So let me break something down for you since you feel the need to comment on stuff you have 0 clue about the details; keep in mind, I also follow a plant based diet at least 40% of the time. The inflation on beef is a sign that other foods are going to be hit, such as beans.
And they're taking away the food safety net for ppl that are middle-class and poor, our food supply chain is being disrupted by ICE raids & tariffs, ppl are starting to lose jobs, our economy is slowing down and food safety inspections are dramatically reduced even for plant based diets. M'kay lol
I cannot believe such a thing is happening but I follow much of this and am appalled. In the UK the reform party is gaining ground and if it gets into power then UK is fucked as well.
Him: "I cannot believe such a thing is happening in the US, I have supposedly read Project 2025 and the UK is not too far behind and I follow what's going on in the US even though I am not American." Also him: if he read Project 2025 then he wouldn't write that he can't believe it's happening.
Do you fucking have eyes? Why can’t you believe it?
"I follow a plant based diet at least 40% of the time"... I follow it 100% of the time. I require no animal products to thrive. If I want to I can start filling boxes under my bed etc and insulate myself for saying 5 or 10 years, like I know some Mormons try to do.
And yet, you're still not American and still don't understand that what is going on in America is all tied to Project 2025.
The us is such a big economy, what happens in the us has serious ramifications for others. My guess is we get similar problems usually 6 months behind. What is happening in the us is a shit show. UK is not far away, esp with first past the post voting system, which naturally helps populist parties
And yet, you still haven't read Project 2025.
But I have.
But since the majority of crops are fed to animals, the majority of water is fed to animals... And globally just 18% of all human calories come from animals... I do have a clue. I've read the research.
Lmao You're not American. What's happening right now is linked to Project 2025. If you haven't read it and you're not living in America, then NO, you don't know what's going tf on in America.
Here. Do you understand what this news article means to Americans? I get the feeling you do not as a non American. This news article also effects plant based diets for Americans who are reliant on help for food in America. Are you American? Lol bsky.app/profile/your...
This in the screenshot is about inflation in America and the federal minimum wage in America. America. Are you even American? Lol
Have you read this guy’s pinned profile post? 💀
Nope. I have a feeling that if I do, I will lose IQ points as a result.
This is correct.
I'm glad I made a correct decision.
The sacrifices I’m willing to make…
What lol. No. And you're writing mathematics as maths. Are you even American lol The original post is about what's happening in America. If you're not American, then this is not a topic for you on what's going on in our food supply chain and our economy.
What the actual fuck? No.
This clown isnt even American lol.
Veganism is more important than all the social issues. EVEN SLAVERY!!! OMG, I’m gonna die laughing.
Lord have mercy lmao.
I know you don't see this. Big ag has done a serious number on indoctrination, whilst they become some of the richest people in the world, literally.
Hush lmao You're not American. This convo is about what's going on in America and our economy You haven't read Project 2025
Youre wrong. Also it’s “are caused” Did you just say you like to “rear” animals? Maybe don’t do that.
Provide some evidence that I'm wrong. Let me know if you want to hear the evidence for my statement.
Btw, US recession numbers are also on that graph. That will also add to US food insecurity. I'm excited to hear your analysis over it all so you can tell us Americans how it all is!
All I'm offering is a way to be self resilient when times are hard. Don't follow that idea if you don't want to. Your choice.
Nope. This is not answering my question based on the evidence, since ALL food will be affected in the US food supply chain. You're the "expert" on what's going on in America as a non American, so break it down for us when jobs numbers are trash and ppl can't buy food and the safety net is poof.
That’s not proof. You’re assuming you know what’s going to happen with no evidence behind it. It’s hard to be self resilient when you’re fucking broke and you don’t get the help you actually need. So shove your opinion up your ass. Period.
The burden of the evidence is on you especially since you claim to be an non American expert in how Project 2005 is involved in this, an expert in the American economy and how our food supply chain is in America along with the current issues in America at this moment & how it's aligned to our past.
Plus, you should probably also be an expert in the seven mountains mandate along with Project 2025 and how white supremacy and eugenics are used within our discussion on food insecurity in the US. Im not sure if youve heard the latest US job numbers that came out today. I will provide you a graph.
It's project 2025, not 2005. Unless you're talking about yet another project. I don't claim to be an expert any more than you are. I've read up on it. If you've got some recommendations for references please let me know, and I'll read more.
So let me give you an example. A Las Vegas family who follow a plant based diet, recently discovered due to the travel issues going on in the US one parent has been fired & the other's hrs have been cut back. The local food bank fed assistance from the USDA has been cut by Trump and there's now
major cuts to SNAP benefits along with additional restrictions put in place, so they're not getting the full amt they need for EBT. And job numbers are getting worse. So "expert" break it down how this US family of 5 is doing to survive over the next 90 days.
And bullshit. You brought your ass as a non American in a convo that is meant for Americans telling us what we should do when it's clear you're way over your head lmao. So tell us with everything going on what Americans should do for food when they're losing jobs & safety nets are being eliminated.
I bet if an American who is a vegan came with the same or similar arguments that you'd still find an argument to try to nullify me by an ad hominem. From your angle better to do a personal attack rather than ever actually think about the arguments.
And before you continue with your fuckery, here's where I wrote it correctly at least 20 hrs ago. So stop playing games lol Now "expert", give us Americans your analysis lol.
Lmao not you writing this when you KNOW it's a typo from me when you KNOW I've written it several times correctly. Stop playing in our faces. No. Why tf would I provide recommendations when you're the expert on shit here lol. Break it down for us.
You haven’t read what she’s provided because you’ve already had your assumptions and opinion set. You’re being a condescending asshole with a superiority complex that nobody can resolve. Fuck off.
Gotta love how he knows his over his fucking head with his moronic, entitled ass and is pointing out a clear typo from me when he knows it was a typo and I wrote it correctly lmao
First provide your evidence.
What’s your advice when beef is $65 a lb and lentils cost double the federal minimum wage ($7.25)
I can tell you what his answer is. He thinks they should've just saved before better, even though he doesn't know that most families in the US live in urban settings and do not have the space and income to save long term at the levels he's discussing that's needed & which was even before this all.
You might want to read Project 2025.
If you want to insulate yourself from project 2025 then buy in stocks of lentils etc. I have enough in my small home to thrive for over a year. no heat required, just clean water
They want you poor and desperate so they can further exploit.
OMG.
@papst-ny.bsky.social
Winning is hard..
Another good reason, among many, to choose compassion and go #vegan. Beans and rice are much less expensive and don’t include cruelty to animals. Sorry/not sorry, this is what goes through my mind every time people complain about the cost of meat, dairy and eggs (which all receive govt subsidies).
I fully agree with original post that wages are far too low, food prices too high and too many people struggling to pay for basics. The current regime is just making things worse for everyone. We need better from our gov. My comment was just intended to add an additional perspective to consider.
But who picks the beans and harvests the rice? Do you see the problem there? It's the people that bring your food from farm to market that are being 'disappeared'. ALL food will become expensive and scarce. MAGA are going to bring the Great Depression- style starvation back to the USA.
I don’t disagree. The heinous kidnappings and imbecilic tariffs, among other stupid, inhumane decisions by this regime are going to make everything more expensive for all of us. Fact remains that rice, beans, and many fruit and veg are more economical and more compassionate choices.
Correct. It's about eugenics.
The Republicans have a solution for that. Child labor. Two States have already changed their child labor laws.
The same people who pick the crops to create feed for animals. We should be feeding humans instead of animals that are going to be killed anyway. Eg 90% of soy goes to animal feed.
Man, shut the fuck up.
Sorry if the truth hurts you so much.
It doesn't, you're just an annoying loudmouthed militaristic vegan.
$10.99 per Lb at my grocery store two days ago.
Thanks, Republicans and greedy corporations for these high food prices and low federal minimum wage. 🤑
I can’t remember the last time I even bought ground beef??? We do a lot of veg based meals with meat as more of a flavoring and not the center of the meal.
We can feed 8 people spaghetti, meatloaf, burgers, lasagna, or other meals for dinner using only one pound of ground turkey, chicken, or pork in the recipe. We add lentils to the meat to stretch it. If it's a soup or stew, we use beans -- and who cares what kind? Beans is beans is beans.
These are the things we need to keep relevant and keep track of we need to show everything thing. That's affected by the felons stupid tariffs!
Glad I’m vegetarian! 😉
You ain’t gettin off so easy, LINDA! :p Veggies will be scarce and prices will soar if the ones who pick them are incarcerated via kidnapping…
Exactly veggies are not going to save us either. Glad I live in rural CA; may be able to get local stuff.
the US has a 10% tariff on the Canadian potash used for agricultural fertilizer. Plus crops are being left to rot in fields bc workers are being deported by the planeload. Vegetarianism isn't getting cheaper either.
Oh for fuck's sake.
Right, because THAT’s the point here, Linda 🙄
So am I. Fruit and vegetable prices aren’t going down either.
Sad that family gardens, once so common, are now a luxury. Relatively few of us can afford to live someplace with a yard these days. Not enough community gardens!
You don't need a yard or money to grow food. My garden is a necessity, not a luxury.
www.ksdk.com/article/life... Soybean and corn are in danger. Too bad they cut the funds to research & science so science can't help with this problem
No worries, the great Corporations Who Make Money Off These Things will come up with a (very lucrative) solution.
Big ag companies get their PhD scientists from universities. now that pipeline is killed. we might be ok for the next 10 years but expect much fewer scientists to remain in this country. this is a basic science crisis
Soylent green?
Seeing that all of our farm workers are being deported, the prices are going up there too.
Yay! Me too, for decades. But our fruits and veggies are going up, too. This, when so many are losing their SNAP! I absolutely dread going grocery shopping today, but I also know how lucky I am now to be able to afford to eat!
Yep. And in the back of my mind I know that if we don’t do something soon, fewer and fewer of us will be able to afford groceries.
Yea but if we dont work together… were all gonna starve! Dont be like that! Have a blessed path !
Good point! Vegetables and Fruits are rotten in the fields due to immigration policies driving up the costs. This affects everyone.
This is not the time to play that card !!!
Nah, it is always time to play "these monsters are decimating our country with their immigration policies" card.
I meant the, im better because im…. Vegetarian. Or whatever, we are in this sinking ship together !
There’s also tariffs so Mexican food won’t be as cheap which is a lot of vegetables and fruits
Where I shop, all the tomatoes are from Mexico apnews.com/article/mexi...
Ridiculous. Production isn't the problem. It is who is going to pick it.
Nope Mexico really has invested way more into tomatoe production than US we grow it year round in greenhouses
Sorry. That was an incomplete thought. I was speaking of why we will be paying those prices. Because ours are rotting.
its all good …i knew 💙
It costs us $7 for every animal cruelty based burger you all eat meatonomics.com/wp-content/u...
'Animal Agriculture Costs More In Health Damage Than It Contributes To The Economy' 🔗: www.forbes.com/sites/jeffmc...
Those crops aren't going to pick themselves. Wait, no, let's let the kids do it!
You're a blowhard is what you are. Fuck replies like this. Go virtue signal somewhere else.
Why? Your future food is rotting on farms as we speak.
don't be a jackass. your veg prices are going up too, hon.
So if a whole lot more people all of a sudden switch to vegetarianism, just as we're scaring off and imprisoning all the ones responsible for harvesting all those veggies, just watch the availability plummet and prices skyrocket. Enjoy your diet while you can.
You really thought you did something with this reply didn’t you 🤣
Missing the point.
Nice start, but did you know the dairy industry is the beef industry? Dairy cows are slaughtered. It's actually probably worse bc they're repeatedly artificially inseminated, their children taken away and killed after birth, until they can't stand anymore and collapse
did you see meetjo.org
No one will be unaffected, Rose.
So... you realize that tariffs Trump is imposing just to play around will also include mangos & tropical fruits, beans, rice, etc? And coffee.
I live in Manhattan, I shop at local farmers markets, I have local food sellers and stands in my Dominican neighborhood for tropical fruits-we don’t eat out at restaurants. I understand prices are going up, as are my food costs, but much less than if we ate meats, eggs or dairy.
The lesser cost, you had it already. It will go up. There's no garanty it will be less than meat, dairy & eggs will, as there are other factors (like less workers in the fields because of ICE) rising vegetable costs. You're just trying badly to signal virtue while showing lack of empathy.
I'm vegan. The frozen vegetables all went up recently. ☹️ At least cabbage is still under a dollar a pound.
7 bucks a pound for friggin' STEW BEEF! That's what I used to pay for NY strip steak!
I believe it
Winning!
framing is everything and you excel at this -- thank you
Ramen Noodles here we come!
We've been eating more of them for a couple of months now. We also eat a LOT of rice. We cook with beans, too, even adding lentils to meat in order to stretch it when we make meatloaf and other items.
Yes! I’m about to drop soda and we cut out any kind of snacking foods a year ago. Buying the essentials now. We don’t eat out to save money. I’m not wanting to see my Ameren UE bill this month, that will also take out of the food budget.
Ameren is HORRIBLE. We were lucky enough to have a co-op when we lived in MO - the prices were better. When we moved to this small "city" of 5K in rural SE GA, we discovered our electric is provided by a co-op as well. Our rates are lower than they are in Savannah and the surrounding areas.
I drink soda because it acts as migraine prophylaxis for me. I know it triggers some people -- I'm not one of them. I'm working on weaning myself off soda and drinking iced tea instead. It takes time. The caffeine content is different.
Our electric bill was $511 last month - $120 higher than last year's bill. I dread this month's bill. It's been melting out there.
Omg 😳
8 people use a lot of electricity, and it's the south, so we have to use AC if we want the asthmatics in the family to be able to breathe.
My electric bill was $700 last month, I live in the north east. 🫤
That would take 2 paychecks for me to pay. Mine is 150.00 per month, small house, no washer/dryer or any big kitchen appliances. Have 2 window ac, but can only run one at a time or fuse will blow. I in the middle of Missouri
I’m in…
OMG😟
We had to replace our central air last year and it has definitely improved our electric bills. So far, at least.
How much lower is it compared to before you replaced it?
It's hard to tell because this summer has been so brutal that we have used the AC much more. I am a windows and fans person, but have used the AC pretty steadily since June. And there have been rate hikes. But our electric bills have been less than $200.
Our home was built in 1976 and still has the original windows. We can't afford to replace them. This is the biggest house we've ever lived in; new windows would cost about $30K - probably more now, since we priced them pre-tariff. There are 20 in the house itself and 11 on the 3-season porch.
I hear you on that. We looked at replacing ours, too. So expensive and if you do the "one day" replacements they advertise, you lose a little glass area.
Holy shit. At least I can blame ours on the AC required to live in hell. My sister in law lives in Rosendale, NY. Her house is around 2/3 the size of ours and her bill is $100 higher. For 2 people vs. 8.
Yeah, my electric is usually higher in the summer, but not this high. So, I'm wondering what I will get next billing too. Cause they usually send me my electricity use and it's higher, before they charge me. 😑
This is ours for the last 2 years. I don't see a huge difference in usage in June. We used an extra 300KWH compared to last year - because it was hotter this year. That's less an a 10% increase.
This….. This is a goddamn shame !!!! 😞🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Winning. My ass.
But inflation doesn't exist. Just ask members of the Great Fascist Party, and the First Felon. "It's all a hoax, perpetrated by those disgusting Democrats!" "When you go to the market for your food, the prices are actually lower, you just made less money this week because you didn't work enough."
#TrumpTaxes
That’s fckt up. 🤬
Vote.
All prices are spiking while legacy media whistles past the graveyards.
When a pound of beef costs more than an hour of human labor, it’s not just inflation — it’s a systemic failure.
Good one! 👍
Beans are better for you anyway. Lentil loafs are pretty good.
stood in the meat department looking at a nothing very special strip steak priced at $19/lb sitting on styrofoam & wrapped in plastic and wondered at what point are these steaks just priced out of the average shopper’s budget, bought chicken instead, it’s more versatile
Good job beef ranchers are happy. But then all expenses to grow their beef is up. So no one gains. No one wins. Tariffs and labor shortage will break them just like other farmers.
More helper than hamburger
So went with ground turkey. Little bit cheaper
We do mostly ground turkey and ground chicken. We stock up when it's on sale. The other day I had to go to WalMart and discovered their store brand ground pork (cleverly disguised as "sausage") in 1# tubes for $1 each. I grabbed 8.
Between 8-9.00 a lb here in Wisconsin. DJT is the devil incarnate.
It's all bullshit. Egg crisis monkeys
Inflation is at 2.7%...
$12 weed eater string last summer, $18 today
🤔😳but dumpty said the prices are coming down
So in a way Trump has done exactly what he claimed environmentalists would do lol.
I went to bulk dept of grocery store and even that had stickers over old prices. $6.99/pound for buckwheat groats.
Five years ago, I had ground beef all the time. These days it's an occasional luxury.
Yeah I saw that in Walmart the other day. I don't buy meat there but I was checking out their prices. $8.99 for one pound. That's crazy. Glad I don't eat beef.
2 reasons for this. First, drive us all into poverty. Second, they want to see farming and ranching fail because they want to take it over and privatize it.
and a little bonus - if we can't afford food by working one full time job, they'll just suggest we get a 2nd full time job! :D 100 hour workweeks are coming.
The cost of a boneless New York steak went up $2.50 a pound in just 3 weeks! 🤬 Inflation in ‘real’ terms is up over 12% and rising! 🙄
Shit....we haven't eaten steak in over a year. Who can afford it? We even stopped buying ground beef. We go for ground turkey, chicken, or pork (yeah, they call it sausage, but ground pork is ground pork) instead.
Same here
This is trumps aka the pedophiles America
Even when I had much less money, I had much less stress trying to figure out how to meal plan & afford groceries than I do now. And I know how to cook and meal plan. I've become mildly obsessed by what people are paying for food abroad. Infuriating.
Let them eat cake.
A family pack is 33.00. thank goodness the pantry gave it to me for free. Oops should I say the word "free"
How many states still have and use the Federal minimum wage. I know for a fact Mississippi does.
Cheap ground beef is 7.99 lb where in live in southern New England
Yes!!! Good point. You have to work 3 hours to afford a chicken to roast.
My family is eating frozen ground turkey and lots of beans. I can't remember the last time I bought beef or pork.
It’s brutal, basic staples have become luxuries for so many while wages stay frozen. You’re not alone, more people than ever are stretching meals and swapping things out just to get by. It shouldn’t be this way. 💙
A bag of fucking salad at shop and save has been $4.59 for the past two weeks.
Maga is convinced we need to suffer before we flourish. The base doesn't care bc they are retired or sucking the corporate teet. From my consensus, they are prepared for 10 years of hardship. Idk if the poor ppl on board realize that.
Bet the cattle are happy about that.
Yes, and the full affects of the tariffs will not hit until next year.
I just had this conversation with my coworkers.
Maybe we should send Trump a bloody burger with memo😡
Doesn’t take much to be higher than the fed mini wage.
That means, the prices at McDonald's and every other burger joint are probably going to go up.
Wait until they have to start paying US citizens to work in abattoirs -- unless that's where they plan to commit the homeless and mentally ill.
That has always been their plan. That and the people they imagine aren’t already working who will need Medicaid
as employees or ingredients?
Soylent Green!
probably depends on if the workers can meet the required daily processing quota or not...
Why do you think they’re building those concentration camps?
Where and what fat percentage? Ground chuck (80/20) is still $5/lb in my area.
🤫 they may start paying workers in beef.
So is a dozen eggs.
It's too bad dems belly laughed at raising the minimum wage 12 years ago back when they held all branches of government and could have easily done it. It's too bad they haven't been campaigning on it. Why wouldn't they be campaigning on it? Seems like an easy way to engage the disenfranchised.
Spokesman for trump said 'that's because Joe Biden shot all the cows.. Or the cows are with Hillary in a basement in a pizza parlour in somewhere-or-other because they don't have green cards'
Damn! Better be %93!
Local supermarket is selling tomatoes for 6.99 lb. In season, when they're flooding the market. I loathe everyone who voted for this.
The hourly minimum wage is now worth a literal pound of flesh. No bone, no cartilage just a pound of flesh.
I'm sure glad I don't eat meat or fish. But a bag of potato chips cost me seven dollars yesterday.
I don't buy ground beef, so I don't know the price. But blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries have been higher per pound than minimum wage for awhile. And now citrus and apples are higher too. There's no way to eat healthy food for cheap.
100%
Eating healthy should not be a luxury.
No, it shouldn't be. And it never was before. Even during WWII, it wasn't. Things like sugar were rare. But whole wheat flour wasn't, and beans, corn, apples. Milk.
Sweetheart, we haven't been buying extra lean ground beef since before Covid.
Where I live in the central prairie provinces it averages about 7 a pound, but that's also 🇨🇦 dollars. So at least 25% less in USD. Holy 💩!
Jeezuzz!
Price gouging since '20 has been a choice. Now there really is a supply issue and prices will only go up
This smacked me in the face when I was able to go get $4/dozen eggs at Trader Joe's during all the egg mania.
Trader Joes, Grocery Outlet and Natural Grocers all kept prices within reason I think. They also limited hoarders from buying more than a couple dozen
...and the lowest grade of hamburger, too.
Pathetic! Oh, but the price of eggs!
Those are expensive too.
😡😡 are we great yet⁉️⁉️
How about the eggs though? That’s what I was worried about all along
But inflation isn’t happening! Now that he’s making deals just watch inflation begin to grow in late August though the rest of the year!
Yet cattle at auction are down
Jesus I hadn't even thought of it that way. Unreal.
Guessing that meat lovers will turn vegetarian if this continues.🤬🤷🥦🫛
we eat meat pretty rarely at our place, and I'm glad of that now seeing these prices
Sticking to a plant based diet with healthy alternatives protein is better for the planet. 🌎
that's what we do.
$20 to make a meatloaf. Used to be the cheap thing to make and last for sandwiches.
Exactly right, and my grocery bill without buying beef is also higher than before.
The minimum wage in my state (Michigan) is 12.48. It would be laughable if I wasn't so worried about affording groceries. 12.48x40=499.20, before tax. A little less than 2 grand a month when the average apartment in Lansing, our capital, is 1,203 a month. But yeah, it's my fault I'm poor.
It's still $7.25 an hour in Iowa
I'm so tired of everyone in congress acting like this is a scooby doo mystery. They'll jump through dozens of bureaucratic hoops to "give working people a break" but throw themselves to the floor in anguish anytime anyone suggests raising wages, because somehow that will tear the country to shreds.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin’s minimum wage is the same as Federal Minimum Wage at $7.25/hr. Pretty sure the idea here is that Scoob and the gang just all live together in the Mystery Machine.
And hope they can afford to gas that big bitch up every week
Same here in Georgia. Servers are still paid $2.123/hour plus whatever tips customers throw their way. Sometimes they bust their asses appeasing demanding jerks who leave them pennies -- or nothing at all. My daughter has been stiffed more than once by people who spend $125+ for dinner for 2.
Don’t forget that they have to tip out the back of the house too. Those folks actually make minimum wage and wait staff still has to share their tips with them.
At her restaurant, they only have to tip share the bartender, who makes drinks for the whole restaurant while also taking care of their own table assignment. BOH makes more than minimum wage.
She’s lucky. Most places make you tip out bussers, cooks and bartenders.
Cooks make $12/hour. There are no bussers. She is one of the bartenders. She also serves.
OMG I can’t believe that wage is accurate. How on earth do people survive at that. Our minimum wage here is $15.00 an hour and even at that it’s extremely tough for people to survive. Those tariffs are going to flatten a huge majority of Americans
Her coworker had a table today that spent $140 on LUNCH. They didn't leave a tip at all. I fucking hate that they can still be paid so little. The customers don't care if their servers can put gas in their car or buy food for their kids. Sub-minimum wage should be illegal.
Being a waitress was, hands down, the worst job I've ever had in my life, and I've had a variety of jobs across industries. The criminally low page, the hours, lack of breaks or lunch, disrespect from customers, managers, cooks, line runners. Its awful
She loves her job. Customers can be a PITA, but she's a people person. It's hard, though, being treated like shit by certain customers who think she doesn't deserve a living wage.
Texas has the same shitty rate!
It sucks.
No kidding especially you make someone who works at the mercy of the people they are serving! In this day and age?? And if the tips are on their credit card the employer takes out the credit card fees!!
Now several restaurants are putting credit card tips in the server's paychecks so they're taxed. Assholes.
I hate that. And been there. 😣
🤬🤬🤬
The separate server wage should just plain be outlawed. I didn't realize other states did this until recently. The min wage in my state is $15.05, for everyone, tips or no. Granted that is still not a living wage, we have an extremely high cost of living here. But $2.12/hr is CRIMINAL.
They expect servers to be given enough in tips to make up the difference between sub-minimum wage and minimum wage. Most people don't know how businesses avoid doing so ethically -- sometimes they'll average the whole fucking month; if you get a few good nights, that can cover the whole shebang.
Others do it by the week, not the day. Now several companies are changing from cashing out credit tips every evening or the next day, instead adding them to the server's paycheck -- SO THEY CAN BE TAXED. Oops. Guess the felon lied. Again.
It's disgusting that anyone thinks it is ok to be paid less than you'd pay the neighbor kid to feed your cat while you're on vacation. Just inhuman.
THEY'RE disgusting. Just sayin'.
"if we raise wages, prices will just go up at the same rate" um OK or maybe the won't? Can we just. try it out? If both raise at the same rate, we're no worse off than we are now. On chance that prices don't raise at the same rate as wages, we'll be better off.
I think they should work for the federal minimum wage and get only the benefits and health insurance options offered to minimum wage workers. Congress shouldn't be a stepping stone to being a millionaire as it's supposed to be a public service job serving constituents.
As it is most of them were already millionaires (which IMO shouldn't be allowed either)
Add in a car payment, insurance, gas and maintenance so you can drive to work, the grocery store, and your kids school....and of course gas, electricity, food, clothing for growing kids....how is that supposed to work, folks? Saving? Nope. College/trade school funds? Nope. Health insurance? Nope
And pray to whatever God you believe in that nothing goes wrong, because you can't afford to fix that car or pay that copay for the sick kid and pay for beef at the same time.
Minimum wage in New Hampshire is $7.25; two bedroom apartments range from $1500-$3000.
It’s $7.25 in PA honestly don’t know how people here afford literally anything
It's inconceivable
Wasn't he elected because he promised to lower prices? Sorry about your luck and wait till the tariffs really impact your economy 🤔🫡
What about corned beef? Beef Wellington? What about beef broth? What’s the price of beef Better than Bouillon risen to?
Moooo Wheat and Corn prices have collapsed, feed should be cheaper . Mexican ranchers used to bring their cattle up to Texas to fatten them before sales. I wonder how that's changed with trump's racist anti-Mexican policies?
JFC.
Average retail price for ground beef is $5.59 per pound.
Legacy media on the cost of everything going up: 🦗
Imagine that.
Wow, this is bad for a lot of people. The beef industry in the US is horrible for the environment and completely reactionary and it’s primary consumers are also reactionaries just another example that Trump‘s policies are primarily designed to fuck his own supporters.
Make THAT make sense. One can't even make spaghetti with meat sauce or tacos (american style).
And that’s just the beginning. It’s going higher. Inflation is out of control.
What is so infuriating is the fact that food and energy are not included in the calculation of inflation.
Wait til the screw worm gets here. It'll be easier to find an honest GOP in DC than a hamburger.
Yes! Government secrecy, dishonesty and anti-science stance is going to devastate our meat industries. Beef, pork and lamb will skyrocket. Just wait until people and pets are affected.
Even Trump will have to give up hamburgers.
Nooo! How else will we be rid of him??
Oh you mean, they'll be poison now that there are no food safety regulations? - so, yes, let's hope he keeps gorging on them - (and hope he doesn't employ a food-taster, like all his imperial predecessors).
Well, the EPA, USDA and public health budgets have been slashed, scientists have been purged, agencies have been silenced, etc., so ingesting anything in America will soon be like Russian roulette.
Nobody listens when #well-researched #Women come with fucking receipts Nobody listened: I’ve been howling about this since #ilDouchey started threatening #Panama… bsky.app/profile/shew...
Omg
The things they don't tell you about the invisible hand of the market, let alone how the other, extremely visible one, is robbing you regularly.
That's for the lean stuff most folks go cheap for the fatty stuff. But still it's appalling.
Republicans: "The peasants are too poor to afford ground beef? Let them eat SCRAPPLE!"
Making his meal deal elitist.
😱
Don’t hold your breath. He doesn’t care. Remember when he said to shut up about the price of eggs?
A beef “shortage”, driving the price up, yet this, on “rep” jason smith’s .gov Yay, Felon & yay smith
He can look as smug as he likes, Australians aren't actually going to buy US beef. Except for MacDonald's probably.
Australia is taking Canadian beef now, good luck topping that with that garbage lol
Don’t worry, most here won’t eat it. Allowing it again (not that it should be) doesn’t mean much necessarily.
$2.10 for a bunch of green onions
That’s not what “rep” jason smith claims! We’re in the golden age where the gop is “clawing back” frivolous funding & fighting waste, fraud, & abuse. If he says it enough times, it’s true you know. What about the five day weekend that the felon just took to Scotland to promote his golf club? 🤡
How much do you suppose that cost taxpayers?
$10 million seems to be the most thrown about figure but the media lies so much it’s hard to tell
Similar to a dozen eggs. Hmmm
those brazilian tariffs are gonna drive that up a bit more too. we can't even hamburger help-ourselves at this point.
They seem intent on ‘eat the rich’ being the only viable option
let's not disappoint them
the time to quit eating cows was decades ago -- it's killing us, it's killing the planet
Seems like a good time to cut back on beef consumption...Replace red meet with plants...getting healthier is super important now that access to health care is being diminished. Get healthier and join the resistance!
But who picks the fruit & veg, now that workers are being incarcerated?
Additionally, disabled people do not make 40 hours worth of minimum wage. We make less than that. Unless you were a high income earner before becoming disabled, this is true for you. We're expected to live on starvation wage levels, and cost of our care keeps rising. Abuse is rampant in care homes
Safeway’s prices on everything except their Signature brand are obscene.
Albertsons in my town is also ridiculous.
That's because Albertsons owns Safeway.
Thank you, that's what I thought. I wasn't sure.😀
Ground beef is 12.00 a lb here in rural NV
Wow! So far it’s $6.00 a pound in the Tampa area.( it was six dollars last week). This it’s probably higher. Are the slaughter houses closed?
Just pure greed
Poor people will always suffer. Rich get richer. Don’t care about their fellow man.
Now, the gop will say that beef is a luxury
I would start looking for some recipes not requiring meat. With employees of meat processing plants getting g deported, it could be difficult to find what is needed.
You can also cut back on the amount of meat you use by mixing it with lentils. They add protein as well as fiber, and you can get a 1# bag for about $1.50. You can even sprout them to use in salads and other dishes.
Yep. Dried beans are a great source of protein. Beans are also excellent for Type 1 diabetes. We keep cans of beans in our pantry. They can be added to all sorts of dishes.
They're too high in carbs for the keto diet I'm on. If it gets bad enough I'll have to eat them; right now I try to limit my carb intake to less than 20 grams a day.
FYI…… Price of ground beef per kilogram (2.2lbs) in Australia is $US7.20 ($AUD12.00). Minimum wage in Australia is $US15.00 ($AUD24.95) plus 12.5% superannuation…..Also, healthcare included. Trump last week was saying that the US is going to be selling so much beef to Australia……no he isn’t…
That comparison is Priceless!
Unbelievable
But rich people get tax breaks so they can still afford it
It's off the menu north of $5/lb here. No big deal 🤷♀️
Yes, it is! Ugh
I hate it here.
And they say America is in great shape and the economy is humming along. It sure is if you're a billionaire who invests in the Stock Market and pays zero taxes. Everything is NOT okay and average America is struggling!!
"They" being maga morons.
I actually think some of the morons are starting to wake up. At least until they throw out the next squirrel for them.
One can only hope. But I am not holding my breath
Living through the collapse of empire fucking sucks.
And the fuckers think, that is all anyone needs.
No More Beef for me!!
It's been that way for a while now.
I've got 15 lb in the freezer. I might have to start selling some.
That's how stupid Trump is - he has forced Australia to relax its bio security regulations to allow American beef into Australia. And his tariffs on products like beef from other countries actually make everything more expensive for Americans.
We won't be importing American beef, anyway. We have more than enough of our own and it's better quality. Plus, anything marked "product of USA" will sit on the shelf, I bought. We won't buy that shit.
No - I rarely eat ours anyway. Can't be bothered cooking it. But certainly won't buy American produce. There probably won't be much to buy anyway, as they're incarcerating all the immigrant farm labourers!
Another Trump promise broken & stepped on.
Stop buying the beef!
📌
this will become worse. we need a garden
What am I missing? Isn’t minimum wage $16?
Federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour.
As I said before, to many, a high price unacceptable under Biden will be acceptable under Trump.
Wow... :(
This is great framing of 2 incredibly important “kitchen table” issues. Inflation is rising on family staples, contrary to Mr. Trump’s *promises* on the campaign trail. And the immoral disregard for economic welfare of the working class who serve as the foundation of our society.
Yep, I noticed that. But Congress hasn't - not yet, anyway.
But as MAGAs say all those trillions from tarriffs are making us great again. I ask them who's paid for those trillions?
Well I'm down to meat only once a week.
Make sure you replace the meat protein with beans & pulses which are just as good for protein to stay healthy.
$9/lb at Walmart. Absurd.
It is because the system is functioning as constructed. Make people desperate on the edge of death and they will leverage their life for another second of life. The oligarchs dehumanize to consume US-All and even when we are gone they will never be satisfied.
I had some serious sticker shock yesterday while grocery shopping.
Inflation is good now in MAGA world.
And until people understand that not regulating wealth in a capitalist society will result in this, it will not get better. There's no such thing as good billionaires or good monopolies. People rich from capitalism actually want you to work *more* hours to feed your family if it means more profit.
In Scotland, I can buy 15 eggs for £2.15, around three of your American dollars. How much do they cost in Trumpland?
I paid $4.19 for a dozen this morning.
Trumpenomics.
the eggs I buy are now $8.99/dozen up from $6.99....I mainly use eggs for baking so this doesn't affect me that much
& 6 organic eggs £2.75 Likely to cost 10 x that in Trumps USA
I only ever buy organic ones if buying chicken eggs, much prefer duck, but thet are a bit pricier, £3 for four. Wonder what they cost in the land of the free?
We ain't seen nothing yet!@ the pos won't stop until he bankrupt us!!
YIPES😾
Part of me never cares about the price of gas or animal products being high. Time to quit being spoiled brats America. Think about the resources you consume. We can do better.
This is obscene!🤨😡🤬
Yes, and it is disgraceful. It is the result of Trump’s colossal stupidity.
well, the cows would approve, but yes, the minimum wage is in a time warp and wasn't high enough when it was brand new
Hold my beer.
A chicken in every pot, a pound of cow in every wallet!
