Have you noticed a price hike for coffee? Mine is up over $3 for 12 ounces in the last few weeks.
Have you noticed a price hike for coffee? Mine is up over $3 for 12 ounces in the last few weeks.
I stocked up in January because of tariffs, but I’m out now. Went to buy it again yesterday and saw that the tariffs have set in. Looks like this is life under Trump. Higher prices on everything…
I don't drink coffee, but I'm not okay with this. But I figure most Americans will put up with higher prices because they don't want DEI or drag queens.
Yes, overall, grocery prices are going higher. Especially fresh foods: meat, fruit, vegetables, dairy.
When the shipper added 170% to my small order from China, I said “Please sir, may I have another?” No. I sent it to Canada and paid a small sales tax.
Mine is 40.3 ounces for $19.69. That’s up $3 already
I did the same, stocked up on coffee months ago and now almost out. I guess having more coffee in the cupboard just means we drink more of it🫤
Since April, a 25.6 ounce canister of Maxwell House French Roast coffee, which my local groceries (in a Washington suburb in Maryland) used to put on sale for $5.99 to $8.99, has a sale price of $12.99 to $17.99. When not on sale, the regular retail price is now a whopping $22.99!
My usual was around $8/ can until recently. Now, if its on "sale, it's $13 !!! Over 50% increase. So, is the tarriff on Brazil 50%?
I stocked up on coffee and chocolate in January. But, yeah, I'm gonna run out before this bullshit from Trump is over.
And they voted for him because he said he would reduce food prices Day One.
We stocked up in January and haven't touched it yet. Next bag, though.
The coffee I bought for $10 and change in January is now $24 and change.
I’m buying local roasted coffee now at 10.99/lb, which is up $1 from the start of the year.
We’re looking at a baseline tariff of 15% compounded by 10% weaker dollar. With a touch of corporate greed thrown in. Everything is going to be 30%+ more expensive.
bsky.app/profile/real...
The coffee commodity market has already been at record high prices. The increases you’re seeing in the stores are reflecting this, not the tariffs. But the tariffs will soon start to make much worse. Similar thing going on with chocolate right now.
I will say again, … Dnald Trump is just a distraction clown. It is the filthy rich people who belong to (sponsor) The Heritage Foundation who are running this country right now. They are now above the law.
These aren’t even the tariff price. This is just your grocery store raising prices beforehand. The theory could be that you won’t recognize the increase once it hits, but in reality, it’s just the grocery store (or distributor) price gouging.
Life under Trump, his "advisors", and the GOP. He isn't doing this alone. He could get push back from Congressional Republicans on AT LEAST this, but no. They'd rather continue the lie that tariffs are paid to the U.S. by other countries.
He really thinks we have to pay money to other countries when they put tariffs on goods we sell them and he thinks they pay us when we put tariffs on goods they sell us. I hate this hellscape. Why won’t someone explain it to him?
" Why won’t someone explain it to him?" As if he were capable of understanding an explanation, you mean? LOL!
0% he could understand and even if he could he’d never change his position and admit he was wrong.
We buy roasted coffee beans from Costco and grind them weekly into brewable grounds. One year ago we paid $15 for 3.5 pounds of beans. Earlier this week I paid $20 for the same size bag of the same brand. That's a 33 percent price spike on an item most of us might consider a life necessity. 😠
My husband's instant coffee has gone up by something like 20% and that is before tariffs. Not sure where to turn as even tap water is getting more expensive as data centers hoard supply.
Ms. Piper, this is clearly Biden's fault. Or Hillary's, or Obama's....
I still can’t wrap my head around why anyone would do this to their constituents.
I don't drink it so I don't know beans about the price. But I'm not surprised it's bean lower. Smuggling to start in 3...2...
I did the same in January on all the non perishable staples also up now up. 😡 so a Brazilian criminal fellow dictator doesn’t have to pay for his crimes.
It’s only going to get worse
Yes, aren’t tariffs great. Look at all the money they bring in says the most stupid man ever to be in the WH. From the third grade math class, tariffs are paid for by consumers not foreign nations.
Our 38 oz bag of coffee was $13.98 on Jan 25, 2025. Same bag today, Aug 7, 2025 is $18.42. This is Before Trump's threat of 50% Brazill tariffs.
Thank God I quit drinking coffee 👍
Same for ours.
And I seem to be addicted to that stuff!
Checked out coffee on Amazon. Prices have jumped!
Please stop feeding that juggernaut.
I try not to, but the only other retail outlet is Walmart and they are just as bad.
Harm reduction. I don’t have a car, and sometimes I buy from Amazon. I have reduced my spending to necessities. I often look for other manufacturers or local suppliers first. Don’t feel bad. There’s hardly any difference between Walmart and Amazon.
Like you, I buy only what is necessary. If I can purchase something at the supermarket, I do that, but I've noticed that I pay more at the supermarket.
Everything I used to buy on Amazon I now buy directly from the manufacturer. Hope that helps.
We did the same and yes, coffee prices have spiked since Jan. Bought a small freezer for meat, poultry, frozen produce since Mar. Anyone not paying attention seems surprised at today's grocery prices with no idea how much worse it's going to get.
We did the same - bought and stocked a chest freezer, filled the pantry with anything shelf stable. Still not touching it, but I'm pretty sure that ground beef has done better appreciating in the freezer than most of our investments. 😭
Lol so true, especially those meat prices. When our budget gets me down, I just open the little meat freezer to feel rich!
I did the same. Bought coffee, a small freezer and a vacuum sealer back in January. I'm pretty set for the next few months at least.
My tiny company imported from China. Before my goods left the factory, I checked what bracket my goods fell into, filled out quadruplicate form, WROTE A CHECK, and sent it to the appropriate US bureau, who then sent a permit to China for shipping. I figured that into my COGs and calculated my price.
Lion Coffee in Hawaii is amazing, delicious, and tariff free. They ship all over the US. But also, the tariffs are stupid, and DT is a Pedophile. www.lioncoffee.com
Yep
Yeah, we don't produce much coffee domestically.
Coffee, pop, hamburger, deli meats, cheese, the price of everything is going up. I save all my receipts. I'm going to do a price comparison soon and post it.
Yep. A 36oz of generic coffee was $17.97 last weekend.
Yeah, the lowest priced coffee in my supermarket is up about 20-30 % from pre-Trump
For those of us 55+ take advantage of McDonald’s Senior Coffee. It’s a small coffee. In my area they charge anywhere from 69 cents to $1 per cup. It’s normally $1.29 for a small coffee.
That’s Trump’s 50% tariff on Brazil. They grow 40% of the world’s coffee. ☕️
Yep. Big Folgers tubs went from $14 to $20 about three weeks ago at WM and Sam's. Just noticed yesterday that small Orbit brand water timers came up this week--small plastic hose timers went from $6 to $13 and metal ones from $11 to $20 per.
I literally stocked up early in the Trump administration because of his tariffs. Also, pro-tip, you can join the Sip Club at Panera for free for two months (or at least that's the offer I received) and then cancel it. Gives you free coffee every 4 hours, I believe.
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. The mid terms are coming !
Yuuuuup my mechanic judged me so hard for stocking up when the Tariffs dumpster fire started, but now I sip my cheap (albeit definitely stale) coffee like a Queen of the Apocalypse
Yes on some brands
The store brand coffee I buy at Aldi is up 35%. It went from $8.49 to $11.49.
What I have noticed is that the price of plums is $1.37, EACH! WTF
Yes. My Starbucks was more expensive today than a week ago.
The coffee my husband likes went from $16-$22 for 36 oz in about two weeks. Last year it was around $12-$13.
Mine doubled.
Yes I have!
As more prices skyrocket, all we can hope for is republican voters see the light as to what their elected representatives are doing to them & the country. Then vote them OUT.
My lady noticed.
Mine is up from 10.00 to almost 15.00. Trump is going to whittle away middle America’s disposable income. When corporations don’t have a strong consumer base they can sleep well knowing they got a nice tax break.
In addition to tariffs, they had farming issues last year and we are seeing that too
Add it to the ever increasing list of "stuff that shouldn't be this expensive but is because shareholders are greedy and want more profit."
Just did a bit of stocking up and yes, the price did increase. This will only get worse.
Wow! The price of ground beef another “Wow! Hold on tight things are going to get worst.
Yes, Folgers, for example, at the local Warehouse is up 38% this year. This should be a boon for IOWA Coffee growers, right? Almost forgot, be sure to support Missouri-grown and sourced OLIVE oil as well!
Enjoy the OHIO bananas as well. Of course, the farming industry is looking forward to the new potash factories making minerals that the US will be creating, even though there are no new potash reserves in the US.
But don’t yell about the price of eggs whatever you do!
I knew it was coming and was buying double and triple to create some storage. 🤷♀️
Same.
Been buying extra since taco got sworn in. Every time since January it’s raises 3-6 dollars (Costco big containers)
Tariffs in the US
Trumpflation is here. Let's all remember that, come voting time, Trump is a Republicon.
Remember when the can or bag of coffee was 16 ounces? “Shrinkage”
I’ll bet all those folks who voted R because of egg prices have egg on their faces now, right?
Our coffee went up $1 or more in one week depending on what brand you prefer. Tariffs. Tariffs. Tariffs. Perhaps we should all send Trump a bill to cover our increased grocery bill.
Early this year my favorite locally roasted beans escalated from fifteen dollars/pound to twenty
🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
Brazil.
I believe this map can provide a lot of context on the rise of coffee prices. It only grows OUTSIDE of the US which is why this tariff scam is a huge mistake.
Voters buying trump’s lies about lowering prices doesn’t take the same faith as voters ignoring the prices they’re actually paying. Hopefully some folks are waking up to the expenses in their cup.
About 30% up for a bag from Costco.
Dunkin just increased their prices for coffee
Yep
I bought my usual 6 pack Lavazza coffee, this time 20 dollars more than earlier. And the tariffs where not implemented yet. 😭🤦♀️🤬
I have been cutting back on coffee. I now limit myself to the "free" stuff at work, while it lasts.
Yes! The 2.5 ib bag of coffee beans I get at Costco has shot up - it was $10.99 a year ago and this week it was $17.99!!! I expect it to keep increasing due to Trump's arrogance and stupidity.
Are there really people who believe that foreign countries are paying for the tariffs?? That the $152B collected so far DIDN’T come from Us corporations’ and citizens’ pockets??
For now yes. Reality will slap them upside the head very soon.
No, Reality will not penetrate. They will blame Democrats, DEI, Woke, Obama... ANYTHING other than blaming Dear Leader.
I teleport back to Earth 1 when I need a coffee.
I’m paying 25% more for coffee than pre-tariff because of the trump tax on Americans.
can't recommend this coffee source strongly enough. Dark roast- 5lb bag, $50. Sustainable, supporting the local community, bird friendly. www.cafesolar.com so far prices haven't increased.
Went to the coffee roaster and they raised their prices for whole beans by 50%. Six 14 ounce cans in a box . I enjoy the coffee. Only make half a pot now. Probably better for my health but not for my wallet
Seems like coffee is trying to get a promotion, too. Maybe it's just practicing for its new role as a luxury beverage.
My local Costco was out of the whole bean Peet’s Major Dickason’s that I’ve been buying there for a decade.
And the tariffs on Switzerland are 39%!!?
.... switzerland??
Nescafé and other Nestlé products perhaps? It caught my eye, too 😬
It would be a more useful infographic if they were either more specific about which harmonization codes they were including, or just included one.
Yes and it’s going to get a lot worse.
My wife recently texted me from grocery shopping. We love our coffee, btw!
Wow, where do you live?! In my neighborhood that's $13.99.
Damn! NY suburbs.
Wow I get 40 oz Starbucks ground for 25.99 (usually get a $5-$8 coupon off that price) at BJs. Maybe it was 24.99 earlier this year, but still.
I drink regular old Tim Hortons, nothing fancy but because its coffee and because its Canadian I'm paying more. Talked to a local roaster he said all bean prices are up but Ethiopian beans are the most expensive he's seen in 25 years in the business. His business is slower ....
I pay $3.33 for a 250 gram espresso grind vacuum pack... or 12 double espressos, cappuccinos and Canadianos, fuck americanos What are you all on about? Oh wait.... those evil Brazilians not eating the tariff to maintain their market share?
At the grocery store yesterday in SW Michigan. Regular size can (not the tall one like Sam’s has.) Was around $8-10 very recently-like a couple weeks ago. Now almost $17. 😳 #trumptariffs
40.3 Oz is nearly $20 @ local Wally World now. That is up from $16 about 3 months aago. Now with Brazil tariffs- what will that bring?
Let’s be real, though: $7.94/lb for roasted, ground coffee is still dirt cheap.
Not saying these tariffs are doing anything for anyone.. but really, we do need to adjust our expectations for the price of coffee.
Think about how this hurt local coffee shops. I barely can afford a weekly outing anymore
Coffee shop prices have gotten more ridiculous too. I have cut way back. It’s sad but many shops are going to be hit hard
Also shrinkflation... same size package only holds 10 k-cups for same price as 12 a few weeks ago. Almost all brands have done it... 😡🤩
"Brother can you spare a dime dime..."
Coffee prices, here, increased a lot, weeks ago, just in anticipation of tariffs. Ridiculous prices.
Yup. Same here.
Yes….Trump slapped a 50% tariff on Brazil…. apnews.com/article/braz...
I stocked up some early in this clownshow. I paid $0.37 per k pod in January and it’s $0.52 per now.
More to come 😡climate change is bad enough on coffee production and now the ABSURD AND UNNECESSARY TARIFFS😡😡😡
Suck it up and go to grocery Outlet like the rest of us.
I just bought 5, 2 pound bags of my favorite coffee at Costco because it was on sale at the same price it was 6 months ago. It’s gone up $4 a bag. Imported from Guatemala, roasted locally in Maryland.
Yes coffee is double what it was.
You ain't seen nothing yet.
I asked a client of mine (who owns a couple coffee shops) if the coffee prices are hurting his business. He said it isn't happening yet. Most coffee shops buy coffee on contract at a set price. His is for a year. So, when that contract expires, he'll probably feel the rates
Not only are my prices up, but there’s a limit on how many packages I can buy from my online retailer. I’m fairly sure this is all tariff-related.
For sure. Even Folgers price has spiked.
Yup Traveling now, so yeah But at home too
YES!!!
From $11.99 to $12.99 and now it is $18.99 all within a year.
Costco brand dark roast coffee beans were $13.99 for a very long time. Then $15.99 and the last time I bought it, $18.99. That was a few weeks ago, I’m sure it’s higher now!
Yep. Hiked up over 5 bucks a cannister & rising.
Here in California too.
I get a brick at costco, $27 in January, $37 last week. It edged up a bit each time. Curious what I'll see when I get back there.
Bought the 45oz at Costco in May, the 40oz at Costco this past weekend (August) - this was the only option, I think it was same or similar price 👎
Yep
Yip, I've noticed a huge price change. My favorite, Starbucks Pike Place K-Cups at Costco went from $35.99 in 2024 to $47.99 😳
No, but I did notice that a two pound sized bag is now one pound and five ounces.
cat food, cat litter, etc have also gone up!!!
Trump did that
Yep
I usually buy Lavazza in 2lb bags. It went from $11.99 to $19.99.
What was often $6 on sale, $8 normally, is now $13 and never on sale
Coffee is one that will get noticed. It’s a part of many people’s routine and price awareness is a big part of that. He can’t claim the prices are a hoax like he used to doing in protecting pedophiles.
We buy our coffee in whole beans from #OnTheGrind. It’s stayed $45 for a 5 lb bag, surprisingly. We also bought a $35 espresso pot, a French press, frother and syrups. We are our own baristas.
Coffee prices doubled in Anchorage Alaska
On the plus side, this makes it easier to justify buying Kona coffee.
... which is actually the intended effect of tariffs. Of course, this is all illegal and arbitrary, but that is exactly the intended economic transition - from imported product at price X to US product at price 1.4X because the import is also 1.4X now.
Hawaiian growers can’t keep up with domestic coffee consumption alone and will eventually raise their own prices due to demand. It’ll compound the tariff problem.
I was being snarky but Hawaiian coffee growers are concerned that the tariffs will swear people off of coffee altogether and hurt their business. Hawaiian cocoa growers face the same concern.
Went from $6.99 to $7.99 to $8.99 in a couple of months, in my local Lowe’s Food.
I'm paying twice as much at the grocery store for ground coffee. It's a good thing I can quit drinking coffee anytime. No, really. Just not right now, please! (/sarcasm)
I quit and don't miss it 🎉
Stock up on tea also before it skyrockets.
Mine went from $6.99 to $10.99 a few months ago.
In January, a 2.5 lb. bag of Kirkland French roast whole bean coffee was $13.99. Last week, the same thing was $19.99. Guess I’d better stock up again before the next price jump.
Tariff on Brazilian coffee! EVERYTHING is up!
With the new "Free Bolsonaro" tariffs on Brazil it won't be getting better. With little exception US can't grow coffee beans. We can't magically have a US coffee industry. This tariff is political & has nothing to do with actual trade. Americans will pay the price for Trump, as usual.
Mine went up $1 for a pound of beans, but I'm in Canada and we're not hitting everyone with tariffs.
Folgers at bjs is nearly double the price from 8 months ago
12.50 to 17.50
That will be tariffs
I just the price at the website I buy from. Almost double from a year ago. But it’s a family owned business so I support them as best as possible
$6 increase last week when I bought my big tub o' Dunkin ground coffee.
Thanks to 🍅 tariffs on Brazil, for one.
I can't remember EVER buying a cup of coffee that I didn't just make myself. I see lines of cars at drive up windows of coffee places and I just want to laugh, but in a kinda sad way.
was just saying this the other day. Local Schnucks used to have coffee for 8.99 and it's now 11.49.
I have a bean grinder and almost only make espresso or coffee at home. My bags of beans are up a few dollars.
Same - weaning off Keurig cups was a good decision.
🤬
Yes definitely! I found my favorite coffee for 2 dollars cheaper yesterday at City Market so even though I have enough I bought another one anyway.
Price hikes on many items.
Yes. The Aldi brand of coffee was $12.00 a can this morning. My husband was going to grab some this morning and decided to put it back on the shelf.
I drink the German blend one from Aldi's it's up to almost $9 a brick now, it was $5 something a few months ago, 6.49 a few weeks ago when I last bought it. App says 8+ today.
Yep. The last time my husband bout coffee, it was 6.00. There are Aldi stores in the UK and Europe. Some enterprising person should start a coffee smuggling ring.
The tariffs are starting to kick in as pre-tariff inventory gets used up
Yep
My Dr recently told me I needed to lay off the caffeine. I guess that’s my silver lining?
That you like your new doctor?
When Trump took office, I went to Sam's Club and bought several cans of coffee, packs of TP and paper towels, and canned goods. Loaded up my freezer, too. We are going to feel the crunch very soon because of his tariffs. My energy bill was over $100 more than last month, too. Winter is coming.
Buy Hawaii-grown coffee
The 5lb bag of beans I ordered last week is up $10 in just a couple of months.
Went from $62 to $72. And a couple of months ago it had gone from $57 to $62.
That giant sucking sound we're about to hear is going to be MAGA capitulating to Trump again when prices go through the roof.
The price tag for mine is about the same, but they decreased the size by two ounces to make up for it. Sneaky.
The price for higher power reading glasses so we can actually read the tiny price per ounce tags is also up by 30% 🧐
Short term, tariffs. Longer term is climate change. Coffee & chocolate are going to be too ritzy for us normies pretty soon. A 2lb bag of nestle morsels is $9.99 here. The $5/lb coffee i used to buy is $12. & the good stuff is up near $20. Yes yam-tits, “groceries” is a word. Good for you pal.
The Costco coffee that I usually get on sale for $11.99 is now priced at $23.99. All Costco warehouse coffees and bacon are up in price!!
So if I invite you over for coffee- it’s a sign of deep friendship- show up unexpected- tap water it is!
Yes! Mine went from $10ish, to $12ish, now $15, but on “sale” for $12…for 23 oz tub. Are we great yet?
No it hasn't...just ask your MAGA neighbor. Also, gas is $1.99! I don't know where, but it is! 🙄🤦♀️ 👆this is what we are dealing with! 😡
When Canada starts growing coffee hydroponically – like the $3 in produce we bought last year – I’m in.
Yes. Might I suggest trying the German Roast from Aldi? Now ~$8 for just a 17.6 oz brick. That’s up about $2 from January, but tastes like the red bag Gevalia (“the cheap one”) you’d get in a store in Europe. The medium roast is very versatile and Rainforest friendly.
Coffee up $2
Definitely!
My favorite $7.99 bag of SBC coffee went up to $9.99. In just three weeks! Yikes.
Yup. All tax to pay for the brutality of ICE and a new plane for demented grandpa and to pad the wallets of billionaires. What a country.
Yes! Same here.
Bogos used to save me a bunch on coffee grounds. Now I’m only saving a dollar bc of rate hikes
Literally everything is up in price.
Expensive coffee to support failed coup leader Jair Bolsonaro.
I stocked up when trump "won" back in November. Literally everything is up... It's so nice to save a handful of coins on gas when we're spending $60-100+ more, on groceries weekly!
Yep look at the avocados and fruits and veggies we import from Mexico 🇲🇽😞
Don’t buy plastic, Nestle products, big chain fast food or otherwise (esp the chicken ☠️). This should be obvi but don’t buy Tesla, ffs. Start a victory garden. Do swap meets. Share the costs of everything you can with each other. Re-use, recycle, make, create. We can win this battle. #sayno
It's up another 10% since I replied 3 weeks ago.
Yes, up 33% for identical product.
The coffee we buy is about the same. I bought some recently and on sale. We first tasted at a local coffee place. But we buy now online. 2.2 lbs their whole bean crema $15 LavazzaUSA .com
Through the roof is my prediction. I do wonder how long it will take for the Trump humpers to figure and accept the why of all of these price hikes. And the impact. Across the boards we’ll simply buy less of everything and the economy and many businesses will crater.
And I heard last night that one of our warehouse supervisors was just arrested for child porn. What a fucked up world
😡
My MAGA niece is a small coffee roaster. I wonder what she must be thinking right about now. 🤷🏻♀️
She's probably thinking: "This is fine. Everything is fine. Dear Leader will fix it. It's all caused by the evil Democrats"
No, she’s from Alabama. I’d be willing to bet that she’s all excited that we’ll finally be growing coffee in the good old US of A now. All the while wondering why practically all of our coffee has been grown elsewhere for some silly reason. FAFO I guess.🤷🏻♀️
You can't fix stupid.
In So Cal, the 52 oz can of Folgers went from $14.65 to $17.65 last month. A year ago it was $11.95. But the problem is in Canada too & they just quit stocking it. www.insidehalton.com/news/canada-...
Like to think by this time everyone knows where extra $ is going 🤦🏼
Yes, yes, yes…. I said this 2 weeks ago.
Heck , I get Folgers 40.3 oz and in Walmart it went from $14.34 to $19.24!
And it shall get higher, thanks to D'rump. I appreciate that Lulu is not bending to D'rump I'm curious as to what the cost of eggs and gas are in other states. After Drumps comment last night. FYI California prices did come down a bit but had nothing to do with D'rump, It's like this every year
Same increase at Costco in Chicagoland. Normally 17.99, now 20.99 for Kirkland ground
Most definitely. The beans I buy for home use went from $19.99 for a 12 oz bag to $24.99 for a 10 oz bag in the span of 4 weeks.
$18 for the regular size at Albertsons, in rural San Diego county. It’s been this price for weeks
50% increase since I bought it 2 weeks ago.
I buy my LaVazza at Kroger and boy does the price fluctuate!! I always wait for sales or digital deal THEN STOCK UP. Price can range from $5.99- $12.99. I realized not everyone can closely monitor sales but digital coupons are worth the time.
coffee = slavery #nowyouknow
Went grocery shopping last night and was somewhat boggled. Coffee was high but everything (canned goods, spices, etc) was TINY, packaged physically TINY, at one of my favorite stores. I was just there last week, this was a shock.
Everyone post something that's a price hike this is not even including laundry mats, rent, car ins, health insurance, cable and phone
Chips 6$ doritos
I stock up and froze a bunch of it one month ago, when it was cheaper and also went on sale for a two days.
Yes
I use bite guards to sleep (grinding issues), and I've found that my go-to has gone up $4 since last year ($14 vs. $18 now).
This shouldn't go up too much, it's from Puerto Rico....I buy it at Aldi. I think this package was $3.49 in Illinois.
Stock up and freeze. Supply and demand will cause the price to increase.
18$ for a plastic mid size folgers in PA
Time to hit Costco
The, Kirkland brand is up though.
I shouldn’t share this, and a bit off topic, but a chuck roll is $4.99/lb. That ends up being at least 3 chuck roasts, chuck eye steaks and a lot of ground beef (if you have the will and some gear)
@wonky-1138.bsky.social good that you did share that! We haven’t been begun to discuss the increase in the cost of beef! It’s pretty dramatic.
Just the beginning. Retailers are selling through their pre tariff inventory. Everything is going up. Even non tariffed items. You know, since corporations are greedy AF.
my husband has a friend who owns a liquor store, told him they’ve been printing new shelf price tags & next Sun will be replacing tags & updating their computer pricing, that you can’t separate tariffed from non-tariff, said anything imported is hit & domestic suppliers are also doing price boosting
Domestic suppliers may have imported inputs… but also, if imported item x goes up then domestic can go up to.
they do but they also adopt a philosophy of ‘if customers would pay xx for the imported they’ll willingly pay xx for our product as it’s a little cheaper’
Shadow pricing... 🤩
So does anybody have concrete evidence to show how much is tariffs and how much is weather?
It's tariffs.
Your evidence?
Tariffs are starting to hit supplies now. The coffee market jumped $2/lb at the end of 2024, and has only recently been receding. Whatever savings we were seeing from that have been wiped out by the tariffs. With the Brazil tariff jumping to 50%, it's only going to get worse over the next months.
I have seen the data u show. I have been buying 8 o'clock ground Colombian at Walmart for $14.54 for several years. No price change in spite of data like yours showing a 33% increase for a while last year in the contract price. Just last month, Walmart raised the price of my coffee to $17.79.
20%, even though tariffs on Colombian imports are only 10%. Very confusing. I believe it is tariffs, but it would be nice to see hard evidence of that.
Unlike the oil industry, price hikes in coffee can take a while to trickle down. When I was making purchase contracts in January, it was for coffee that we're going to start using later this month. The tariffs mucked things up more.
Thanks for your insights. Question, when u buy a contract, does that mean u are getting coffee direct from Brazil and thus, u must pay the tariff? Or maybe u buy from the importer and he pays the tariff?
I contract with an importer. They pay the tariff to CBP, and it gets tacked on to the contract price that I pay. Tariffs for coffee are a new thing, so this is all very... new.
I have Brazil contracts that would have allowed us to walk some wholesale increases back, but with the 50% tariff, they'll result in further price increases this fall. This is coffee contracted months ago, but the "hit" won't happen until fall.
Same here. Coffee has now become a rare extravagance for me being on a fixed income.
I just checked my usual coffee source. Price is up $5 since last week.
That's for a 2lb bag of beans, my local grocery store brand.
$4 on average in the North!
My box of 100 K cups went from $20 to $35 over the summer.
Did you know that we don’t grow coffee in this country? #tarffs
Yep. I started to notice about a month ago.
It’s outrageous but I drink far less of coffee these days and always make it at home not in a cafe or SB. I like bold IRISH black tea
It’s a good thing that the countries he puts tariffs on, are paying them. SMFH
Yes
Yes. Even at Trader Joe’s.
Yes. Even at the wholesale club. $3 since just this past June
28 oz bag of Starbucks was +$2 at Walmart last week.
Mine has doubled over the last 8 or 9 months with most of it happening in the last 2
I've noticed the store brand is the same price as the name brands. Before, the store brand was always at least $4 cheaper. Now everything is the same, $7.99 for a small can of coffee. And since I drink a lot of coffee, this pisses me off like you can't imagine.
Yes!
Just bought a large iced and small hot for $11.
The drink of the resistance will be yaupon tea Was once highly popular in the South and Europe It's domestic Yes it's caving to the tariffs (we have a choice?) but it could become a powerful symbol of solidarity
Likely it’s the coffeebean price increases from a few months back. Record high, mostly bc of effects of climate change. Before those prices increases end up in stores it takes a while. The coffee bean prices have gone down now, but the tariffs will likely cause a prolonged price increase for the US.
The latest crop reports are good?
More like the weather looks good. Coffee prices are futures based on expectations and weather. So looks good, but Trump tariffs will negate this price fall. www.foodnavigator.com/Article/2025...
Who hasn’t is the real question…
Off topic, but have you found that your Internet connection is getting worse?
N…o…t…y…e…t
Yes, markedly
Thank you it seems to have gotten a lot worse in the last two months and I’m feeling leery. It’s hard to figure out if this is local or widespread
No not at all. We have fiber.
We used to, but that was even worse. This was during Covid. I’m glad it’s still going well for you
Coffee beans can't really grow well in America so they're outsourced and the tariffs don't help 😵💫 so shops probably need to change prices to accommodate the loss.
Costco, Rochester, MN. Before and after, probably up even more now.
