Did you know that Missouri schools are not mandated to teach Sex Ed? Did you know that if a district decides to teach Sex Ed it must teach abstinence as the preferred method of birth control?
Did you know that Missouri schools are not mandated to teach Sex Ed? Did you know that if a district decides to teach Sex Ed it must teach abstinence as the preferred method of birth control?
This is insane.
I'm 100% behind teaching everyone in Missouri to stop having sex forever.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pathetic
In Texas there’s no mandated sex Ed curriculum, but if it’s taught at all, abstinence must be the main emphasis.
The only sex ed I ever got in high school was a description of "the act" but totally from a man's POV. The woman in the act was nothing but a receptacle. The whole affair was described as what happens to a man (erection, penetration, "O", resolution) I thought sex was only for guys. 🤷♀️
Isn't Missouri also one of the states that wants to make it easier for adult men to marry 14-old girls? No sex ed, marry a 40-year-old. Barefoot & pregnant by the age of 15. Game over. She loses her life.
Keep that in mind ladies, men in Missouri have NO IDEA where to put it...
😂😂😂😂
Ugh, we are letting are kids down with our ignorance
Bonkers
Let me guess; Missouri has a lot of teen pregnancies?
MAGAt’s are educated like it’s the 1,800’s, as a result are easily manipulated. Education is the key to knowledge. Knowledge is power. The U.S. education (lack of) system has made tRumpism possible.
The USA is an indoctrinated, ignorant nation of faith-based claims, and primitive minded conspiracy theories... #EvolveFFS
Project Handmaid's Tale 2025, the MAGA Fascist Open Ward, USA...
I taught my kids everything about sex and the boys waited until they were 18, my daughter didn’t until college—and they all used birth control.
I know George W enacted an abstinence only program in targeted states and teen pregnancy went up and so did STDs.
And what are the underage pregnancies in Missouri?
Fucking Puritanical.
Welcome back 1800’s 😳
Teach Civics and Economics sec education can be taught at home unless the child live in a republican household where pdf is celebrated quick ask mom & dad if the Epstein files being hidden to protect a felon bothered them to determine if home is a safe space or stranger danger
Brought to you by the protectors of child rapists...
The phrase "Sex Ed" in Missouri is a euphemism for something else?
don't forget the meth belt!
The racist belt?
It also qualifies as the HYPOCRISY BELT!
Yep
The marrying your first cousin belt.
Did you hear that Missouri canceled both Sex Ed and Driver's Ed? The mule died.
MO = republican dystopia
So many states in this country are so backwards!
OMG!
Uggghhh... I remember doing this when I was a jr high science teacher. My friend and I worked next door to each other, so we always combined our classes. It was scripted and students were not allowed to ask questions. It was ridiculous 🤬
Huh. I thought Missouri was one of the states that mandated Sex Ed as a homeschooling course.
Jesus, no wonder this country is where it is right now. 🤦🏻♀️
Make America medieval again 🤷🏻♀️
don't you just hate it, when ignorant sub-standard intellect people are for some unknown reason allowed to create rules that support their stupidity and bias, which are obviously born of massive insecurities and inferiority.
Apparently MAGA men do not subscribe to that method.
Is anyone surprised here?
Research has consistently found that teen sexual behavior and pregnancy increase in states with those policies. Which apparently is what the GOP wants.
Tell all the rapists.
What the teen pregnancy rate in MO? Got to be bad I would think.
What’s?*
worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankin...
Yep pretty damn bad as expected
🥲🤮🥲
That explains Missouri’s teen pregnancy and STI rates.
This is NOT Education; It’s indoctrination! My home state is disgusting!
WOW what's the teenage birth rate? I bet high, Jess.
Yeah, like that has ever worked.
I thought "donation and abandonment" was their preferred method of dealing with unwanted pregnancies. It's why they got them baby dumpsters all over. Are they not pushing "You gotta have 'em, but you ain't gotta keep 'em." anymore?
The MTV show Sixteen and Pregnant was very good, probably isn't around anymore though.
My question is whether the kids fall for this. The info is fully available in the world. Does it erode their confidence in their schools, their community? Some brainwashing is inevitable, but can brainwashing go so far that kids can spot it and turn against it?
Looking at teen pregnancy rates, yes. But the bigger issue is by not providing free birth control and proper sex education (including STIs), they're actively encouraging teenagers to be teenagers, who are then surprised when they get pregnant, and probably won't be able to get an abortion.
Completely agree, it is actually horrifying.
I grew up in Missouri and was taught 'abstinence only' in middle school. It was the same health teacher who told us that you can get pink eye by making eye contact with someone who has it. 😑 In high school we were taught about STDs and abstinence. We had a LOT of pregnant girls in our small school.
Shades of the 1960s The So socially backwards RED states have the highest teen birth rates Abstinence education only has never worked
But they also believe in immaculate conception? So, clearly it's not 100% effective
That’s why they’re considered one of the dumbest states in the country and some of the dumbest people on earth. And it’s because Christians are taught to believe a comic book as children.
Oh? Like Sarah Palin and Lauren Boeberts kids used?
Would these people let a 12 year old with no experience or training drive their cars?
The last data I remember is that only 22 states even offer sex Ed out of which 16 offer it as a core part of Curriculum but only 12 cares about being anatomically accurate.
Which is turn explains the rape culture in any country not just the US where men convince themselves and each other the women both neither enjoy sex but also offer it.
By this level of denigration they are openly professing Lack of empathy and compassion for any woman they know
How does a young girl use abstinence as birth control when the abuser is her parent or step parent? She can't. And instead of the perpetrator being held accountable, she is ashamed.
Of course Republicans think abstinence is a thing, because no one wants to have sex with them.
Just say Nancy Reagan and her horrible husband ruined America.
8 (!) years we suffered as gov of calif!
In Indiana, they wouldn’t let IUD’s be a Medicaid choice instead thought the rhythm method should be taught. We had a rep refuse to vote to allow tampons to be sold tax-free because he said women use them to pleasure themselves! Men making laws about women’s bodies is abhorrent #hoosiersky
These republicans are sick, sick people.
I agree with you. But, my wife's mom wouldn't let any of her 4 daughters use tampons for same reason. The problem is christian Republicans. I mean, look at the GOP Congress women. Sheesh! But, yeah, men especially shouldn't be dictating to women.
You are absolutely right, women can be as controlling over other women. IN’s near-total abortion ban was sponsored by women legislators, driving that Christian Nationalist prolife oppression. It’s lifesaving healthcare for us when things go wrong. Them deciding our lives only matter for 20 weeks
You know what they call people who use the rhythm method? Mom or dad.
I was taught this as well, along with other methods. I mean, abstinence wins for disease control. As long as it's required to talk about all methods, I really don't see the problem.
You don’t get it.
Pretty much the same here in Arkansas 😔 A few of the churches in the Little Rock Metro do OWL(Our Whole Lives), which is an age appropriate and scientifically accurate curriculum for sex ed. So a few of us are trying at least www.uua.org/lifespan/re/...
And yes, back in the day when I volunteered for one of those programs, OWL made me think of Ordinary Wizarding Level. But since then JK Rowling has chosen bigotry over altruism & integrity.
Looking at it from the outside (of US), it sounds like if churches have to step in to do sex ed that means schools/parents fail in their job.
Oh and the failure in the schools comes from the Arkansas state level politics on this particular issue.
Indeed, the parents of the ones we never saw are indoctrinated, clueless, or pedos. Failures all. But FWIW the programs were wholly outside of the schools and were always bursting full. Even in a violent and wild place like Little Rock, AR; not nearly all of the parents were failing.
To be fair abstinence IS the only BC method that is 100% effective. Giving girls & women the power & right to say NO & have it respected, could be a positive thing. Teaching abstinence as the ONLY method acceptable is where it becomes weird.
Sounds like the Lone Star state and the majority of bible belt education models, regardless of the data linking increased teen pregnancies and stds to abstinence only education. 🤦♀️
Good grief! I’m 75 & my grandparents didn’t get married until my mom was 2 months old! How many babies were born from practicing abstinence😂
In many European cultures of the Middle ages, becoming pregnant before marriage was absolutely acceptable & proof that the bride was fertile to provide issue. [The people so obsessed with their heritage & faith have no fucking clue how history ACTUALLY happened]
Then religion came along and made us uptight prudes
That didn't work for us in the 60s and 70s
Utahn here, my entire class didn't get sex Ed, always controversial. No worries, I figured it out on my own as a 14 year old experimenting with my peers. My poor kids already know, probably more than they'd like, about how it works.
It’s almost like republicans want more teen pregnancy pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Missouri's AG said that out loud. He claimed reducing teen pregnancies would hurt Missouri's economy. I kid you not.
I 💯 believe you
Good luck with the abstinence thing. It looks like those in charge of education in Missouri have forgotten what it's like when you're a horny teenager. Teaching about birth control is fine, but abstinence only works for those in a convent.
That explains a lot.
I went to Catholic school and had decent sex education. Watching nuns/sisters put condoms on cucumbers was truly one of the most entertaining moments of high school. We were even taught evolution. They took a “here are some things you should know about, whether the church supports it or not” approach
Could they teach abstinence from stupidity? If they avoided stupidity maybe they could change course. They are pretty solid with stupidity in dual practice with dumb.
I think it's crazy that people can opt out of learning it. Like why wouldn't you want to know?!?
Setting aside the first bit- the second bit IS the only one that's 100% effective so I can't entirely diss on it being the "preferred" method So long as the other methods ARE included- I have no issue with that approach- it's what I had growing up
Wonder where this puts Missouri statistically for teen pregnancy..same ones that preach abstinence for teens are also the same ones accused of pedophilia
And that's why MO has the 14th highest teen birth rate in the nation, and the ONLY blue state worse is New Mexico...
Also they aren't required to teach factual information. Case in point- I was told sperm on a toilet seat left there from someone peeing could get me pregnant. I was also told oral and anal sex could result in pregnancy. But I wasn't taught anything about female reproductive health.
Except in the parking lot after football games...
Sounds like Tennessee
🤯
🤣
🙄 sorry to hear that. The stupid asshole governor is a Rump supporter, and he's going to participate in the gerrymandering of Missouri. Fucking disgrace.
Those white kkkristian nationalists have given us so much.
try telling that to the state reps on the gop side
🤮
I did not.
Unfortunately, I was aware. The state of Misery will live up to its name like Kathy Bates breaking James Wood's ankles
Missouri likes living in the dark ages.
Did you know that in Oklahoma they are making it mandatory for everybody to learn the Donald Trump Bible there's no telling what that f***** put in that thing
Sure, just like not only a gun is the most effective method of gun control. You first, MAGAts.
Same in Michigan. We got a full abstinence only education when I was growing up, and while we could ask questions about birth control and condoms, it was mandated that our teachers tell us that they basically don't work they way they're advertised and the fail rate will eventually get you
Ugh. Grand Rapids area?
Lansing
They actually had RTL come in to my "Family Living" class to "prove" birth control pills were abortive and would kill you. Also had pictures of 6-week abortions with fully formed limbs and facial features...
I had a student in a first year class in college years ago, argue with me that they were not effective measures. So we went online and looked at the research and he was shocked and horrified at what he had been taught. this was about 2005. Other students indicated they had the same teaching.
Trust the anecdotes we are fed
And does that prevent single moms giving birth?
Man, that’s some ignorant sumb*ches
Hey Missouri, it's 2025. How about catching up.
Utah when I was a child was very similar. Teens were asking questions like, “What’s the right way to put a condom on?” Teachers couldn’t answer except in really vague terms. Not much of an education there. I already knew all that information going in. Learned a lot more in the boys locker room.
Some states are truly backwards. In 1968 I attended a school board meeting in Idaho. They were going to discuss Sex Ed in High School for the next year. Their decision that night was basically stick figures with weird anatomy for HS Juniors. And they wonder why there is so much teen pregnancy.
I didn't realize how truly backward this state is. I suppose next they will let the child labor start again and maybe child marriage. I hate the people running this state!
Makes ya wanna move to a blue state!
OR welcomes All who live & let live.
That sure worked for Donnie Dumbfuck.
It's not just sex ed. Our kids are not really taught much about the human body at all. Ask a teen about menopause, prostates or nutrition if you want a laugh.
Good grief! We know how well abstinence works. Break this down into reality, religion aside. People are animals. The animal urge is to mate & mate they will. Mating often makes offspring & often Often at inopportune times. That is what birth control is for & it should be encouraged!
Christian overreach cause they wanna groom our kids
Good God backwards
Texas schools , under Evangelical religious guidance, have abstinence only sex ed in schools! 🤣😂🤷♂️
There’s also a graduate course in “averting your eyes and looking away while whistling nonchalantly”…..
That works!
What is Missouri’s teen pregnancy rate?
28 births per 10,000 ppl under 18.
*about 25%
How is that “about 25%”?
I added an extra zero on accident. Please see the screenshot of the data where I posted the correct information.
wouldn't that be 0.28% (less than half of 1%)
Oh mother of pearl! I put in too many zeros. 😳 Thank you for catching that.
"Oh mother of pearl" 🤣🤣 Love it!
7,591 words. It's like a short story. (With a lot of backstory.)
Well trump wants to create more soldiers so they go heavily on the "abstinence" method of birth control because we ALL know how well that one works.
Yeah, like that works…
Send Baron to Missouri before it’s too late so he doesn’t turn out like his DADDY.
What's the issue?
I recommend abstinence from religion as my preferred basis for birth control.
Because sex is just not a very important part of human life, right? I can hear the Missouri teens laughing all the way from VA.
Birth control isn't the only topic in Sex Ed. Maybe it is worth teaching abstinence in order for students to get the full spectrum of information regarding sexual health.
Having lived in Missouri this does not surprise me at all.
It's Missouri, not shocked.
Surprising. Trump loves educating children about sex.
Backwards thinking
In truth that has been the curriculum since sex education in schools began in pretty much all states. I think they have the leeway to mention condoms for disease control and hint at the other function.
OK. Why would the federal government mandate that a local school district teach sex ed, any more than they should ban the same?
Because kids deserve to learn about their bodies, the changes, risks, consent, protection, dangers, healthy relationships, etc in age appropriate ways. It's not a class about how to have sex. Many kids never learn about this at home or church, and parents control what doctors say, too. 😕
Agreed - but I don't want the federal government deciding any curriculum for my child.
Little girls still think they are dying when they have their first period.
That happened to my mom in the 60s and her mom was a Navy nurse, ffs!! Thank goodness she had an older sister. 💔 Idk why people are so weird about regular human body things.
It still does! The cramping pain and the bleeding don’t immediately equate in a girl’s mind with sex and birth. They suggest fatal illness. Also, the little knob of a budding breast is, in fact, a scary lump!
Well, in a DICTATORSHIP, or even a THEOCRACY, there probably is no freedom in how and what to teach the new generation...it is all tightly controlled...
Not sure who needs to hear this, but abstincee is not birth control.
And we know how that works!
You mean the one that doesn't work?
Guaranteed to fail.
Have they instituted a dress code yet in Missouri—long sleeves. Long skirts, high necklines and bonnets?
#theocracy of hypocrisy and #Idiocracy While Republicans continue to do coke, have orgies and rape on the next Epstein island 🏝.
They prefer to rape virgins that’s why.
I went to school in Philly (graduated in 1998). They taught abstinence, too. But, all of my hs teachers knew we wouldn't listen anyway. So, their whole thing was just, "please abstain, but if you must, please wear a condom." And then would teach us about STIs if we didn't wear one. 🤷🏻♀️
Well, it IS a sure fire contraceptive. Problem: no one listens to it.
Same for Georgia. I didn't get sex ed in school because it made the baby Jesus cry to talk about a penis or some stupid shit like that.
And we know the success rate of that "method" 😡
Make America Educated & Modern Again
Are they encouraging homosexuality? Do Republicans know this?
I loved MO. Moved there in the 70's but left in 1999 specifically because of the public school system and obvious backwards thinking of the new political class.
Missouri is not alone. These states have other things in common. States stress that only abstinence is taught in school: Arizona Arkansas Florida Georgia Indiana Kentucky Louisiana Michigan Minnesota Mississippi Missouri Montana North Dakota Ohio Oklahoma Tennessee Texas Utah Wisconsin
Blows my mind that there are people who still think that no sex education or teaching abstinence to students will work. We know for a fact it doesn’t.
I always say Missouri is the worst…they are way behind
That's sad. In your state, raising to marriage age from 16 to 18 is considered "making progress"...
Welcome to Texas.
Bahahaha! Oh. Sorry. That wasn’t a joke.
If girls everywhere would just abstain from having sex with Republicans, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.
A KKKULT RUNS SKKKOTUS.
Raising children to be future victims
I asked my dad who graduated high school in 1941 (small town Mississippi) how many girls were pregnant. He said about 1/3 of class. This is a multi-generational problem with adults who won’t face the subject of sex & biology
The rhythm method was oh, so successful. 🎶 The rhythm is going to get you! 🎵
B.S. so sick of the "Christians" who are just assholes.
Yeah, that works! Why do they think there are abortions?
Scientifically speaking, abstinence is the obvious best form of birth control… it’s just not something anyone will actually do. That said, I don’t think men deserve to penetrate women if they’re unwilling to do whatever they need to ensure she stays safe.
That is inanity trying to suppress Mother Nature Can’t be done 🤣😅😂
In midland texas they have “the life center” teach sex Ed. I said nope.
What the holy heck is "the life center"? I went to high school in Midland TX back in the dark ages and never heard of it. Maybe it was so long ago the life center didn't exist.
It’s backed by a church. Definite abstinence only. Which is fine is that’s your deal but not teaching my child about it at a public school. I was concerned with the preaching that would be infused with it. Pass. Of course now they’ve got the 10 C’s on the walls so….
I heard about that. Makes me incredibly happy I don't have kids or grandkids, and that I left TX as soon as possible after college. Just sad my mother, sister, and brothers still live there, although they are "Christians" and I am the G-dless heathen liberal thinker.
The magafication of America, Texas specifically has challenged any tiny bit of faith I had. I’ll go to my grave bot being able to reconcile how they voted for him and how it aligns with their faith. That’s not the faith I want any part of.
Abstinence is the preferred method of birth control. I hope they teach the other methods, too.
Preferred method…yikes It is the only 100% effective method but I don’t know about the “preferred” method! 🤷🏻♀️
#Christiban are prudish and imagine that sex is bad and that childbirth defiles women (immaculate conception = all sluts except Mary: logic is a bitch). No wonder there are so many more teen pregnancies in the US than in civilized countries. source: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25620306/.
The Nancy Reagan answer, just say no. That worked so well during the cocaine hey days of the ‘80s.
The can get Bristol Palin cheap now to teach
Is there a chapter about screwing your first cousin or sister?
How’s that working?
The last teacher tenure case I had Missouri didn’t count teaching kindergarten towards tenure, didn’t grant tenure to my ESL client b/c she was teaching over 18 year old non HS diploma holding students- by refusing to comply with the FAPE to 21 State Constitution requirements! #MOschools
40.6% of the women in Missouri have their child with Medicaid picking up the tab, which will no longer be available in Missouri after the mid terms in 2026? They are going to need abstinence when they either have to buy their own insurance or pay for it themselves.. MAGA voted for this!
Hello, Josh Hawley!
It's a wonder the teen pregnancy rate in MO isn't skyrocketing. Or is it!?!
I will agree that abstinence is the best method of birth control. But you gotta remember that teens are stupid and full of hormones. So show them the ways they can be smart about doing stupid things. Cuz they are going to do them.
Having lived in Misery, nothing surprises me about the people’s ignorance, racism, or hate, and the state’s shamefully unjust laws regarding abortion, voting rights, women’s rights, etc.
Abstinence is ideal in theory, not so great in practice. I know so many preacher kid/teen parents.
Abstinence? Yeah that's not hysterically unrealistic or anything
Well you might have to marry your Father’s friend at 16– but you can still be cheerful about living in Missouri! 😁
We are perpetually three decades behind the times here as a rule it seems. Left for 20 years, came back and nothing’s changed. Looks like it’s 50 years behind the times now and counting.
I’m so glad I live in a blue state. Health class happens next door to my classroom so I know for a fact that it’s comprehensive. My favorite day of the year is when he shows the birth movie- I can hear the kids screaming like it’s horror movie.
One of the few bits I liked from friends was when they brought a birth video because one of them was pregnant... "What is that baby doing to that poor woman?!?!"
My first exposure to sex education was in Girl Scouts in the 5th grade. The leader didn’t talk about contraception, but she did tell is where babies came from and explained menstruation. 1960 in Nebraska.
Like that's really going to happen
I wish I were surprised.
Not surprised in the slightest
Hopefully, students are taught the difference between mandate and common sense as well.
Someone should have been there to tell Mary and Joseph. They were homeless and had a kid in a barn. I mean...
Yeah bc that works ffs
Lysistrata No sex with men EVER AGAIN See how they like THAT
They tried that in my high school back in the 60's. 17 senior girls ended up pregnant. Didn't work then. Won't work now.
Can confirm... I was one of those girls.
That's the point. They are complaining birth rates "especially among teen girls" are down... They'll cut down whatever protections and rights we have if it means they get the Required Labor for their meat grinder.
One thing to consider: this generation has half the sperm count and half the testosterone as boys in the sixties. Studies have linked this decline to plastic in their blood. Their behavior will be different. This gen already has less sex than any gen before them, & I think it is b/c of hormones.
They should still teach about birth control of course. But this has a sort of gallows humor if you think about it It: Repubs want to get the birth rate up by taking away abortion & sex Ed & maybe even birth control But it isn’t working yet cause the next gen isn’t having as much sex
Same here, one of my classmates made it to Bacalaureate, but delivered before graduation. Many didn't finish HS.
There are districts in Wisconsin that can ONLY teach abstinence... cuz how else are you gonna get adoptable white babies from 14 year olds???
When I was a teenager in the '70s, there were stupid parents who didn't want sex ed in schools. I thought, "Once our generation has kids, that bullshit will be over." Nope; the fucking grandchildren of those stupid backward parents are now backward parents spouting the same theocratic bullshit.
Yep, bit like telling people "thou shall not consume alcohol", that worked well too, especially for the mafia
Didn't know it. Yet, not surprised at any of what you stated.
That’s why so many people are from Missouri.
I got a detention in 2008 for asking about condoms during sex ed, and then another for walking out of class the next week when they said there is no such thing as safe sex
Omg! 🫨 I had the teen sex ed in the 90s (Maine) and we had the condoms and bananas 🤣🤣 Pretty sure we watched a birth video but I honestly can't remember for sure. I may have blocked it out 😆
Sounds about right for the state of Misery.
Nothing works better than telling a teenager not to do something.
Only if you want it done. 🤣
And killing a stork is considered abortion.
Edgy.
Same as it was in the late 50’s & 60’s.
That Plan has worked for us so many times
Yes I know I’ll get asked what it was but I don’t remember. I don’t live there so I didn’t care all that much. Apparently enough to bring it up though. Boy slow news day
Missouri is an odd state. I’ve still not figured out how voters overwhelmingly voted for something. The governor said no I don’t like it. So it’s gone. Has Trump been your shadow governor? Why do the people put up with it.
How is that working for them??
And everyone who teaches abstinence is a hypocrite.
That and the “pull and pray” method. Both work REALLY well 🤣
