I see it differently. I am a “computer buff” or was. Now retired. People were afraid of computers. It would replace them. Yes, jobs were lost to tech. But many new jobs were created in fields that did not exist before. (DNA, Crime tech. Medical devices etc) AI is just another tool to open new jobs

DNA analysis developed as people developed biochemical methods, techniques & equipment. Computer analysis and storage of sequences in large databases came later.

Did I say that? I was making the point that DNA marker matches did not use computer tech in the early mid 1980’s as far as analyis. Been working with computers and databases since the late 70’s and also have advanced degree in biology so please no mansplaining.

In the 1950’s the US thought they could use atomic explosions to dig canals. They also tried to develop an atomic mortar. Both seem laughable now, but these ideas were tested at the Nevada Test Site. The history of technology includes failures, missteps in addn to progress.

Artificial Intelligence is a broad term and it’s been around for some time. Generative AI is still in its infancy and a number of flaws - from factual errors to copyright and massive electricity needs. Add in humans relying on a flawed system = chaos. AI used in pattern detection is ok.

Can also be used to retrieve data scattered all over the net which if you’ve got the time and patience can get yourself using Google. Example ; help in setting up your router. Help in identifying, and dating a painting. But beware it’s still in its infancy and makes mistakes.

I believe you are correct about motives. AI can be a great assistant to human teachers, but not a replacement. Students should be taught how to use it, as an assistant, but she is not the one to lead it even as a figurehead. And, the first step is teaching critical thinking. MAGA does not want that.
