Back on ADHD medication this morning after a while. Feeling extremely energetic and weirdly talkative. Placebo or not, I’m going to take it as I’ve had a very hard time recently.

ADHD meds do take effort. They don’t erase the barriers we have, just make them smaller. I’m nearly 50 and still take my meds daily.
I think that was one of my issues last time. I wasn’t looking for a small help, I was expecting a miracle cure! 😂
❤️
Hope they help this time 🫂
Sometimes just knowing you have that little backstop assist can be very helpful in lifting the weight of everything
I really hope this works for you - energetic sounds positive! Have you tried others? Because if it doesn't work, it might be worth going back to the doctor - there's more than one kind. I know people on two different ones.
Thank you! I tried 3 or 4, but it was nearly two years ago while I was also on antidepressants, which made things worse with side effects. It took a while to recover, so I avoided meds after that. But things have been tougher lately, so I’ve not much to lose trying again.
Life is very hard sometimes. I hope the meds help but also the difficulties you are facing ease 🫂 🌻
Das machst du richtig und ich wünsche dir schnelle Erfolge. 🍀🤞🍀
Not sure what dosage/type you're taking, but, I'm glad they're helping. Having had to conserve my last few tablets (due to a clinical cockup) over the last few days, I can say I'm glad for them. Inattentive ADHD (ADD) without them just leaves me wanting to scream to silence the thoughts.
Elvanse 70g. That was the dose I was on when I stopped. Might have been better to restart smaller but I seem to be okay! And yes it is hard. I will not have enough pills to last before I can get a new prescription so will try to use them only when extremely needed.
Untreated ADHD sucks for you, and those around you. Whoever says ADHD meds are a placebo is a moron.
Hope the medication helps. Stay strong.
Sorry to hear you've been struggling. Hope the meds help 🤞

Sorry to hear that. Why do you think it might just be a placebo, though? Medication for severe depression saved my life some years ago, I have no doubt about that.
I just don’t want to get my hopes up because it didn’t work as expected last time. But I’m in a different mental state than I was a year ago, so fingers crossed.
Right. Not all medications work. And some sound scary. A friend who had been bipolar for years but wasn't properly diagnosed started on lithium, and far from dulling her senses, it brought back the person I'd known. Unfortunately she wouldn't stick to it and I saw her crash again.
It is sad when things start to get better and they stop. Was it because of side effects or no specific reason?
Just her inability to stick at things, which may be part of her condition. She felt fine!
It works brilliantly for my daughter. The difference is night and day.
Hope it helps you. Take care.

It's good to know when you need help. Although I'm currently in remission, I have had depression before and understand that feeling when you need to go back on the meds.
Glad that you are in remission!!!
My lad came off his adult ADHD meds after 5 years saying they didn't help. After 12 months of being in a very strange headspace he wen't back on them. Says now they help him focus. Hope you find the same level of peace he seems to have. They're not perfect but he says it's better.
Sometimes you get used to the medication and don’t notice the effects. Then you stop, and you see there actually was a difference…
I hope it works better this time around! (I'd not be doing very well without them 😅)
I am not sure that they didn’t work the first time. I might have had too high expectations which made me ignore the few positive effects.
When I started my meds, I was studying for final exams, so it was *very obvious* to me what the effects were. But not everyone responds the same. In my family, the ritalin variations work just fine for some, and not at all for others...
I think Ritalin had the weakest effect on me. Elvanse seems a bit better so far, but I still need to see how it affects my focus (which honestly can’t get any worse!). I’d love to be able to study for hours! 😄
My sister reacted like you and is doing very well with Elvanse. 🤞 for you
Not asking re: you personally, but I was under they impression there wasn't a widely prescribed ADHD medication in the UK, or at least not the same things they have in the US? I hope there is something decent in the UK, because I know someone who is really struggling. All the best x
It is harder to get, NHS waiting lists are more than a few years so if you can’t wait you have to go private and it costs a lot…
That's what I've heard... I know it's about £800+/- for an assessment, so I'm wondering if there is a treatment to help if someone gets diagnosed. Thanks!
