Most everyone is capable of a degree of autonomy AND absolutely everyone’s choices are influenced by social conditioning. Revelling in the apparent self-harm caused by those who’ve made antisocial choices under the conditioning of ppl whose power directly derives from this harm is itself antisocial.
I'm not reveling in anyone's self-harm. I'm just honest that harm is inevitable, and I don't believe it's right to force excess suffering on people who tried to prevent the harm in order to protect the people who caused the harm from the consequences of their actions.

It's neither cool nor good but everyone is going to be hurt and unfortunately that means that priorities need to be made for scarce resources. It sucks that we're at the level of triage but the federal government is trying to get as many americans killed as possible.
I think a big part of our problem is that a lot of people aren't able to deal with the suffering and ugliness we're facing and have decided that denial is virtuous and acknowledging our awful reality is a moral failing.
Simply declaring, "No one should suffer!" is then preferable to, "The suffering is here, that's an unavoidable fact. So, how should we respond to this fact?"
It would be great if people realized that capitalism was bad and that the real enemy is the top 1% and rose up to establish a new utopia but to be quite frank I do not think that is going to happen before Michigan needs to start thinking about the 2027 healthcare budget.

I mean, that's what's going to happen. MO is going to strip STL to keep rural hospitals open, a certain number of people in STL will experience suffering or death due to reduced access to medical care, and rural areas of MO are going to vote for more cuts so more black people die.
That's not *good* but barring a revolution or other dramatic change to the electoral makeup of MO it's what's going to happen and revolution seems a long way off.
