No major international air or ocean cargo carriers serve Russia, they've been heavily sanctioned since their last invasion. You cannot ship to there, you cannot import their goods. There is enough horrible news without this inaccurate information being spread everywhere.

That is almost certainly what some of them think. Based on everything getting worse and worse since January, I don't share their optimism. Some countries will retaliate and it will piss him off. They'll have to strip the power and I think that's a tough road to hoe. They'd need lots of Dems.
Worse than retaliating, the rest of the world will just turn their backs on the US.
I see it taking the form of divestment. Countries had no qualms about relying on us for critical services and products. That will no longer be the case. It will take time for it to take effect, but its happening already and nothing will stop it at this point.
Governments, but also more importantly, everyday people, are actively seeking out non-US products. Canada being the stand out example, but mirrored to some extent around the world.
I can't blame them. Even if the US reforms and the direct causes of the sentiment goes away, it will take a long time for things to normalize and they may never get back to the point where the US has preferred status again. The world where we gained that status doesn't really exist anymore.

That is what has been happening even before these silly tariffs were imposed, when we thought they'd probably be stupid but not utterly bizarre. When the tariffs get walked back, they're going to be surprised that no one trusts them any more, so the new deals without the US stand.
I just shake my head when I hear these analysts saying they did not think the tariffs would happen. Trump said he was going to do this, and he put on tariffs in his first term. How could they not think this would happen?
One of the few genuine ‘props’ I have to give Trump is that he has a pretty solid track record of doing the things he says he’s going to do. Most of the time they’re terrible and harmful, and surrounded by lies, but when he decides he wants to do a key thing, he tends to go for it as advertised.
