I always thought that a good utilization of it is product lifecycle.. my thought was starting with supply chain all the way through resale and end of life.

avatar
El Jefecito @gbsooner.bsky.social

I’ve not once seen anyone give a valid reason this needs to be done with “blockchain”. Can be (and is) done just fine with a traditional database. Blockchain is a solution looking for a problem.

aug 26, 2025, 8:57 pm • 5 0 • view
avatar
🇨🇦 Daniel of Clan Lamont 🇺🇦 @kermitology.bsky.social

Yeah, the only advantage you'd potentially get is decentralized and standardized contracts for the data. So for example, if you're a retail reseller of Nike products, then the lifecycle is natively traceable even if the product is resold privately or through secondary markets until end of life.

aug 26, 2025, 9:01 pm • 0 0 • view
avatar
🇨🇦 Daniel of Clan Lamont 🇺🇦 @kermitology.bsky.social

But it's a minimal value proposition. Maybe in a green economy where you could use it to determine the carbon footprint of the entire product lifecycle.

aug 26, 2025, 9:02 pm • 0 0 • view
avatar
El Jefecito @gbsooner.bsky.social

Again. Why do you need blockchain instead of a centralized database? Whats the actual added value vs the extant technology?

aug 26, 2025, 9:04 pm • 0 0 • view
avatar
🇨🇦 Daniel of Clan Lamont 🇺🇦 @kermitology.bsky.social

Domain ownership of that centralized database. That's all I can think of.

aug 26, 2025, 9:06 pm • 1 0 • view
avatar
El Jefecito @gbsooner.bsky.social

Exactly. There’s simply not enough marginal value to implementing blockchain for this because the actual barriers to it aren’t technical, they’re human.

aug 26, 2025, 9:07 pm • 0 0 • view
avatar
El Jefecito @gbsooner.bsky.social

Only if people accurately record the transactions in the ledger, which is the exact reason this doesn’t happen with normal databases. The problem isn’t the technology, it’s getting people all on board with using it. Blockchain itself contributes nothing to solving the problem.

It's energy usage...crypto transactions and mining burns more fossil fuels. Well that and it funnels money from poor suckers to the rich in a ponzi-esque fashion. Oh, and apparently it's great for bribery.

The corruption, insider trading, and market manipulation continue without oversight. Trump’s billionaire friends get richer while average Americans pays higher prices for food, gas, cars.

In Phase 1 it's going to be a manual process to log the statistics which get recorded. But Phase 2 is where it gets really exciting when they will have integrated technology to directly record the figures from Trump's butthole without manual "intervention."

It's an apt description if used in the pejorative (I know Nutlick meant it as a compliment, but nothing he says has any meaning.) "Cryptocurrency" is a concept dreamed up to convince people that imaginary value in some magic number is real. The Cryptopresident has imaginary intelligence & skills.

I worked for one of the world’s biggest financial orgs in ‘15-‘18. One of the most important in the world Sat w/ the CEO talking blockchain for ten minutes back then. They were so excited about all the potential uses. I asked for specifics but it was all “evolving” Still, there remains no use case
